The amounts that crusty old foreigners send to meet the new criteria is a mere drop in the ocean (maybe not even that much), the Ex rate is hardly manipulated for that......seriously?!!!
Actually I was being sarcastic about a conspiracy. But your comment that 800,000 baht multiplied by the number of old crusty foreigners only amounts to a drop in the ocean is like your avatar, "insane".

Yeah, great. Just when I need to transfer more money here to comply with the new immigration visa rules.
Anyone else smell a conspiracy?

Translation apps may not be perfect, but they're better than nothing.
Furthermore, even Thais speaking to other Thais seem to have a hard time being understood. Many times I have been with Thais who order food in a restaurant, and we still get the wrong items.

Like so many things here, Thailand's policy on euthanasia is pathetically out of date. Stray dogs should be rounded up and put down if not claimed. People who find their pets have become vicious and uncontrollable should have the option of having a vet humanely euthanize them, rather than just turning them loose. The same goes for old, sick pets that have no quality of life. The Buddhist belief of letting them suffer has no place in today's world.

Changing a Thai wife's name from Miss to Mrs is pointless. We went to the Amphur to do it, and they said no, have to go to Bangkok, blah, blah, blah. Then they said there's no problem just leaving everything the way it is. When you're in Thailand, you are Miss. When you're in the US, you are Mrs.

How come I can't get away with this?

I actually read your entire post, and thought it was extremely well said and completely valid.
Unfortunately, you really only have two options: 1.Get out while you're still young enough to start a new chapter. 2.Bite the bullet and live with your misery. Your girlfriend and business will be the deciding factors, and they are major ones.
Time is not necessarily on your side. I have been here 10 years, and if I knew then what I know now...

I don't see anything in the article about not wearing seat belts, poor tire maintenance, or excessive speed. It could have just been a tragic accident. So why don't all you assuming geniuses shut the F up and show some compassion.

Basically it will be like all palliative medicine in Thailand. Difficult to impossible to get a prescription because although palliative medications will be legal, i.e., morphine, marijuana derivatives, Thai doctors will be loath to prescribe them as the Thai mindset, even with so-called secular professionals such as Thai doctors, that if you're suffering it's because of your Karma and you're suppose to suffer. Thailand, where you hear of doctors sending patients with cancer home with a bottle of paracetamol for the pain. The profession as well as the doctors are compassionless. So medical marijuana will be as widely touted as it is widely inaccessible to most. If suffering is your lot by birth, why should the Thai medical profession help out? If you truly have a medical condition that requires palliative care, returning back to the West is about the only viable option.
I've no doubt that the legalization loosening of restriction for marijuana is essentially being driven by greed and profit motives - not compassion. Individuals in the Thai community who are seeing the potential profits being reaped in countries which allow medical marijuana or legalized marijuana simply saw an opportunity to jump on the gravy-train. They thought they could corner the market in Thailand with cannabis-based derivative without THC, but then woke up to the fact that they have been beat to the patents by foreign entities. I seriously doubt they will allow the ingestion of whole-plant products like they do in other countries who have made medical marijuana legal. So imho, after all the fanfare is over, so will the promise of access to medical grade marijuana. It's simply a promise that will eventually go up in smoke.WOW...talk about blowing smoke out your ass.

I have been badly congested in nose and chest, but assumed it was from all the smoke and poor air quality. The locals are burning every day.

Simple solution just post a letter addressed to yourself and see if it arrives
Yes, this is a good test. It pinpointed my problem to the local postman. Then I filed a complaint to [email protected] They sent an inspector out who shook things up at my local p.o. Problem solved.

Sorry, but THIS is one of those remarks which I find very stupid. If this lovely country needs a populations transplant, then please: start leaving. What is called FACE is not the downfall of this country as it progressed pretty well compared to some other countries around it. This is Thai culture and not Farang culture. Though I find it horrible, what happened is most likely to happen in the future again, if Farang don't learn to shut up and adapt to the mentality here in Thailand.
The mentality in Thailand is retarded.

"Every office can have their own policies.
My local office will process a mailed in report as long as it gets there by the report date."
Thank you. That is the key point missing from this discussion

Joe: Thanks for commenting, but this is either old information or "office specific". As said, I have been mailing in my report 5 days or less before the due date to the Nan office for the last 9 years, and never had a problem.

Means the same as up to 15 days before or up to 7 days after.
That's how I read it, but why does Ubonjoe say "It must be received by immigration by the 7 days before date."
I know this is Thailand, but "before" and "after" don't mean the same thing.

Why use mail, Internet works just fine, had my last two reports confirmed within 4 hours of submitting.
Must admit worked well - pity they cannot speed up the visa application times ?
It only works if you have left and entered Thailand within a a specified period of time. And then only a "maybe". For those who have been here long term without leaving and returning, it does not work.

That's in person only, your confusing it with online or mailed applications.
I think you'll find it states within 15 days before, or up to 7 days after the 90 day period expires.
- The foreigner makes the notification in person, or
- The foreigner authorises another person to make the notification, or
- The foreigner makes the notification by registered mail.
- The notification must be made within 15 days before or after 7 days the period of 90 days expires.
- The first application for extension of stay by the foreigner is equivalent to the notification of staying in the Kingdom over 90 days.

You can do the mailed report within a window of 15 to 7 days before the report date. It must be received by immigration by the 7 days before date.
Does anyone else find this totally confusing? The Immigration website says: "The notification must be made within 15 days before or after 7 days the period of 90 days expires." I interpret this as meaning the mailed report can be received anytime from 15 days before or 7 days after the due date. I realize that further down the page it says: - Your registered mail must be sent to the Immigration office at least 15 days before the due date of notification. But it looks to me that this only applies to Bangkok. I send my report to Nan 7 days before the due date, meaning they receive it about 5 days before, and I have never been told I'm doing it wrong. Am I missing something or are these comments about it being required 15 days before due date dependent on what office you use?

I was at Global House buying a small gas BBQ grill they had on sale. A clerk got one out of the back, put it in a cart, and walked me up to the check-stand. The cashier rang it up, and while the sale price was correct, there was some kind of additional charge tacked on for about $7. I pointed to her monitor, and said “what is that?”. All I got in response was laughter. I said, “ no seriously, what is the additional charge for?” She had already run my credit card, and was waiting for me to sign the slip. I turned to the clerk for help. They had a discussion about the price, and he confirmed the sale price, but didn’t know what the added $7 was for. Then he said, “sign the slip please”. I said, “wait a minute, something ain’t right”. He goes over to the main desk, comes back, points to the extra charge, and says “free”. I say, “OK I still don’t know what it is, but if it’s free, fine”. They just stand there looking at me. She hands me a pen, and says “sign please”. I said “no, the amount isn’t right, and I’m not signing until you correct it”. Now a Manager comes over, studies the transaction, and says “oh, the cash register is wrong”. I say “yes”, and he says “sign the slip please”. I say “are you nuts?” Everybody is laughing. The guy behind me says to me, “their cash register charged you the wrong price.” I say, “yes, I know that” and he says “sign the slip.” I say “no, I’m not signing a slip with the wrong price on it. They have to void the transaction and start over again.” He says “oh.” Finally the cashier figures it out, re-rings the sale, and gives me a correct slip to sign. She also gives me a copy of the voided slip. Everybody’s laughing except me.
I’ll never understand what goes through their brains. She obviously knew how to correct the error, but apparently expected me to sign it anyway. Is it laziness, stupidity, or what? A guy told me one time that he was overcharged at a 7/11. When he pointed it out to the cashier, she said “you’re a Farang. You can pay.”

Thais are very careful about covering their mouth when using a toothpick, but think nothing of inserting fingers in their nose in public. Go figure.
