  1.

I tried a quick search, but though it may be easier just to create a new topic for my specific scenario ...

    . . .

What does "Thai Elite Card" mean? Could you help explain please.

Yeah, you're a real IT superstar - don't know how to use Google, don't know how to search forums for topics which have been covered endlessly, too lazy to look for yourself and instead expecting others to do your work for you.  You claim you're comfortable financially and don't have to work for 3-6 months, yet you can't shell out ~$15.5K USD.

You should fit right into the Thai IT scene - you have the skillset, the probity, and the work ethic down pat.

Come off it. There's nothing as good as getting info live from horses mouths. Things change quickly. Why would comeone spend $15.5k on the bloody idiot card? Just to prove to you that he has that level of comfort? I think not. Might I also bring your attention to the fact that one could be a senior systems admin for cisco and still not have $15k to splurge on a visa?

Since you are a self appointed expert on the "Thai IT scene" perhaps you would like to share with your own net worth and skillset so we can pointlessly pick it apart while offering disparaging comments about your character? All the while via an anonymous internet forum? Oh, please, sounds like such fun! smile.png

OP- speaking as someone in your position but who has been here a long time, I suggest as others have done- get a tourist visa for 6 months and reassess your options after. At that time, you have the option to study here or to open a business. Unless you see exactly how the locals can benefit your business, do not bother, because this is an expensive and time consuming exercise that is only worthwhile if your business will profit. Forget any hope of consulting freelance or selling services to Thai companies unless you are especially niche and relevant.

  2. I have the option to go to either Cardiff, Hull or London consulates to apply for my new ED Visa.

Which one is advisable? The cardiff website suggests it is a 20 minute process if one arranges a meeting beforehand. But I have heard murmerings that they now have to "send everything via london anyway" which would seem to make it a pointless exercise unless one lived in Cardiff.

    Can anyone advise?

    Thanks in advance.

  3. I suppose its already been said but I imagine the reality of the two situations was more like

    1) The "lost" couple were perfectly happy and did not ask for nor require your assistance

    2) The Iranian man was indeed none of your business and the scantily clad women walking by him are not your responsibility. You are not even from this country and I imagine there were plenty of Thai males around to defend their honour should that be what is required.

In both situation you probably mistakenly thought you were needed where in fact you were sticking your oar in where it was not wanted.

Can you spot any parallels to your personal outlook and that of the foreign policy of your home country? =)

    I'm only being half serious!

  4. Do squats.. like you were considering. It will help immensely. Just alternative the heavy squatting and the jogging days.

Im the same in that I can't jog/run for very long (im 1 year older than you). I have never been able to although have been trying to change that. I can cycle long distance (100km+) in a few hours and feel fine, but jogging at 8-10kph for anything more than 30 mins is almost impossible for me (I start to feel all kinds of weird). Would love to know how to improve it as have once or twice enjoyed the "natural high" from running, but it is very elusive.

+1 for not stretching, according to current thinking.

Wouldn't your long distance cycling give you the "natural high"? With less stress on your knees and hips.

Interestingly (Wikipedia informs me) the runners high is now thought possibly to be a cannabinoid high - ie. a dope smokers high. With maybe serotonin & dopamine involvement. Jim Fixx, the running guru from early 80's, always preached endorphins and increased life expectancy until he dropped dead of a heart attack at 52. Wrong on both counts.

Yes, but to be honest, you have to exert yourself a lot more to get there (like uphill for a long time). The real thrill comes from the adrenaline of joyriding through bangkok traffic..!

Brit1984 if you want to start cycling send me a msg, always happy to cycle and have a few like minded friends.

As for breathing, when I run, I tend to try and stick to the "in for 2 paces, out for 2" or perhaps 3.. I can never decide which is doing me better? Any tips from the pros? I was told in through nose, out through mouth.. but you get a lot of conflicting advice.
