  1. Maybe profit-taking?

I just sold my condo (not xxxxx xxxxx) two weeks ago, too, cause I thought it was the best time seeing the current inflationary building boom in and around CNX, a more than threefold sales price of the amount I paid 11 years ago, the building becoming visibly older, and a by and by decreasing maintenance. And I'm probably not the only one having concerns like these ...

  2. Even though "The House" (199 Moon Muang Rd.) also has some Thai food in its menu I would count it among the higher western category. Not cheap but reasonably priced. Enchanting, somehow romantic ambience, attentive service, good variety of wines and cocktails in addition to superior tasteful and nicely presented food.

    Never left it unsatisfied.

Oh, just seen - someone was quicker than me ...

  3. I see more and more people here showing their tracks, routes, trails, waypoints mostly in Googles kmz file format. Wonderful and perfectly helpful!

But speaking with some friends I found that some of them don't know how to use them properly, mainly on their GPS devices.

Thus here is a mighty online tool which can handle almost all navigation file formats: http://www.gpsies.com/upload.do?uploadMode=convert. With this you'll find it pretty easy to convert for example a kmz file into a gpx file (used for e.g. Garmin equipment) with only 3 clicks. Then you can load it easily to your GPS unit and - voila - follow all these nice suggestions made by our TV fellows.

Keep on exploring our nice host country ...!

Dear admins, thanks a lot for not moving this post into the IT section where it will most probably not be read by most of the people concerned.

  4. Very strong, good smell just now also this one: http://www.google.de...29,r:1,s:0,i:72

"Ton Sataban" or "Ton Tihn Ped" (Duck feet tree). That strong that some people get a headache or nausea, too.

Ah, just saw it's the same (Alstonia scholaris R. Br.) mentioned the post before. Sorry.

Yes my wife also called it Duck Feet Tree

She also said their is a raging debate in Thai on pantip dot com

Many Thai's want the trees out due to headaches etc.

While of course others want them to stay smile.png

Many Thais tend to get a headache very easily, often even by thinking ...wink.png

Our duck feet tree stands in a far corner of the garden, so the smell is not too strong in the living aerea, and we love it.

  5. 2 months ago I went by bicycle from Chiang Mai to Ko Samui. I spent 15 days in 14 different accomodations. I didn't have my passport with me, only my Thai driving license. I was asked to identify myself at about 7 hotels, DL was always accepted (and sometimes copied). Easy to get a false one at e.g. Khawsan Rd.

  6. Have you been on it?

Partially (Nan > Chiang Kham; Chiang Rai > Chiang Khong), during summer last year. Nice tour; great forest. Sometimes I wouldn't have wondered if some dinosaurs would have crossed the road ... But at this time of the year I would expect too much rain, so next week I'll go south ...

    Have a safe ride.

  7. Below you see the entire 244 km route on GARMIN Map Source. Between the two blue flags is the part on #1148.

The second pic is the profile according GARMIN Topo Map Thailand which is normally very accurate. I don't see anything steeper than about 9%.

Have a nice and dry trip.

  8. Look in the "Phuean Khrua" bakery supply shop: Coming from Nong Hoi (fly over) intersection, go south (direction Lamphun) the 106 ("Big rubber tree road") --- After about 330 m you'll see on the left side a creme coloured 2-storey building with parallel parking lots in front. Everything is written in Thai, but they have some big red signs in the windows saying "RICH'S".

As far as I remember I've recently seen bags of powdered dextrose in their sugar department.

  9. Does anyone have more details on this cycling race? A website would be very helpful.

    Thanks

  10. Start to learn at least basic Thai asap (I did, and it paid out from the first day on).

In case you plan to settle down somewhere for a longer time make sure the property and neighbourhood was never(!) prone to flooding. The first two, better three years: Rent only, and don't invest much, better nothing in improving the rented house substantially. (I did not, and had to learn the hard way ...)

  11. Nice clips, exciting tracks. But you increased the movie speed a little bit, didn't you ...?

Actually he didn't. The GoPro wide angle lens gives that feeling of speed as it picks up so much of the scene that has to go by. We ride fairly aggressively but it doesn't feel as fast as the video makes it appear.

I see! And however - the movies bring real action feelings.
  12. Even though I always try to strictly follow Thai laws I wouldn't hesitate one second to use an e-bike here as long as it's still a bicycle and not a tuned up youngster race apparatus. I'm sure that most of all BIBs even don't know how to recognize such vehicles.

But at the end I agree with ad61 and el jefe ...

  13. DIY, JC! Really easy, look here, SRAM gives perfect advices: http://www.sram.com/service. You'll find also a lot of videos from other parties how to maintain your RockShox (Be aware of the right spelling!) fork properly (Google is your friend). I'm sure you have almost everything you need at home. The oils are available at least at Jacky's, they also should be able to source spare parts in case you need some.

  14. Tonto.... Those videos turned out great! Thanks again for showing me the local trails. I'll repay the favor once you are up for a bit of a road ride up the Mae Taeng river. There is a killer climb into the wilderness with a nice waterfall at the end. Survival gear necessary.

Nice clips, exciting tracks. But you increased the movie speed a little bit, didn't you ...?
  15. Have a Merida Matts TFS 500 (25'000 THB), 12'000 km on Thai roads (about 10 - 20 % off road) now, not a single reason to complain anything, never had a breakdown. I'm simply happy with it. Replaced the chain after 6'000 km (1'000 THB), soon I'll have to change the entire drive train.

Wish you an always safe ride!
