  1. I think the company is called Chiang Mai Plastics at Bohin. About 12 or 13 ks up the road to Chiang Rai, turn right at the pedestrian overpass.

Perfect description, found it here N18 50 11.8 E99 04 50.7 on the Garmin map. The name is Chiangmai Plastic Industry Co., Ltd.

Next week I'll ride to check it out.

    Thanks a lot, Paul!

  2. My Merida Matts TFS 500 now has 32'000 km on the clock, a friend's TFS 300 about 25'000.
Both of us can be counted as "heavy", and we ride about 10% off-road but not extreme. Made 5'000 km on tour with up to 20 kg luggage.

Absolutely satisfying bikes, never made any problem at all. Of course regularly maintained, and wear parts replaced on time. After 20'000 km I replaced the fork by a better one.

Both bikes still almost look like new and work as they did on the first day.
    Highly recommended!

  3. For someone who ever visited a "real" bicycle fair it's not exciting at all. No producers, neiter of bikes nor parts nor accessories. Dealers only. Most booths are offering fashionable stuff (as e.g. fixies in zebra or cheetah look, foldables, clothes, blue and green LED lights flashing in all imaginable rythms) at prices far above average and reason, and not willing to discount. Almost no technical innovations a serious rider could be interested in.
Good for a one to two hours stroll if you're already in the area anyway and havn't anything better to do ...

If you're interested in a birthday gimmick for your neighbour's pubescent son you'll find just the right stuff; if you're interested in any serious purchase you would be better advised to visit some recommended dealers and study some magazins/internet forums.

  4. Looking for V-cleats in Chiang Mai (to fix a rope 6 - 12 mm at individual positions).
Normally used with sailing boats but I never saw a shop specialised in nautical equipment in Chiang Mai.
Can anybody help? Need only a single piece.

  5. Looked quite a while for something like this but gave up, and a laminated computer printout glued to the letter box also serves its purpose ...

Here in Thailand I by an by reduced my conditioned/taught aesthetic desires over all the years, and replaced many of them by local "taste". Doesn't make necessarily things nicer but life easier ...

  6. I am looking for THAI rolling tobacco, not the imported ones.

Warorot market, inside the big building, ground floor. Following your nose you won't miss it. It's called in Thai (pronounced) "Yaa soop".

It's the stuff the farmers smoke in their big yellow/brown "joints" (No no ... it's real - and only - tobacco).

  7. I guess you mean Neodym magnets. Chiang Mai Plastic also have some but if you want so see a complete variety google for "neodym magnets". But be careful: They are quite dangerous. Some 20 x 5 mm ones caused me serious bruisings at my hands simply by playing around with them.
You'll see you can order them by post from factories in Bangkok.
FolkGuitar, don't make it too exciting --- sounds like some HD scrap by-product ... But where to get them ...?

  8. Since my wife suffers from arthrosis her knees more and more hurt after hilly tours but she loves biking, and her upper end MTB. We would like to continue doing our 40 ... 60 km countryside morning tours, so I'm looking for a retrofit electric support motor to mount on her Merida.
Hundreds of solutions available in China (Alibaba), but anything in Thailand/Chiang Mai?
Thanks in advance for any recommendations, links or personal experiences re. purchasing/importing stuff like this in/to Thailand.

Sorry - now I used the advanced search function and found some links. But maybe someone knows a dealer in Chiang Mai?

  9. Blanford's Bridle Snake Dryocalamus davisonii

    Dryocalamus daviDsonii, yes, definitely.

A banded krait always has an even for laymen clearly visible triangular cross section (as you can see in the picture) and is banded with alternating black and light-colored areas from neck to tail end.

  10. When i first came here petrol was 7-8 bht a litre, some bottled water

was more expensive!, Ah ! the good old days.

    regards Worgeordie

Ah yes..Remember when diesel topped out at 45 per liter.

The highest price I paid for Diesel in CNX ever (PTT station) was THB 42.89 on June 15th, 2008. This peak was only for a short period of time: From THB 38.35 three weeks earlier, and 3 weeks later already down again to THB 35.79.

    Enclosed my available statistics.
