  1. No, my wife understands. She remembers how it was when she first arrived in the United States and her English language skills were poor. She didn't understand what people, who were speaking English, were saying. Like I am currently with my Thai language skills, she knew enough English to live and survive in America, but had difficulty with having an adult level conversation in English. My wife would attend as many English for foreign people classes (free in California) as she could and her English language skills improved. Just because I don't have adult conversational skills does not mean that I don't pay attention to body language and facial expressions. But body language does little to nothing to help you understand when people are talking about financial issues, business, current events, etc. When we are out with a group, either someone else pays the bill or my wife does, so she gets the change, why not, it's her money. She has more money than I do anyway. When we go out together one or the other of us pays the bill. I don't recall, right now, if the clerks have ever given my change to my wife. I have had them speak to my wife in Thai though. Which is ok. My wife translates for me.
  2. My wife isn't embarrassed by my looking and she does not care. What I find bizarre are those people who are so insanely jealous that they get raging mad about their partner looking at another woman! What are you supposed to do, wear blinders and walk around, looking at the floor, with your wife leading you around by a string tied to a ring in the nose?
  3. Ahhhh. Picking up something dropped. That will do it. A man crashed into my old car, because he was picking up a CD disk that he dropped on the floor. My old car was parked in front of my house!
  4. Yep, that would be me, a tea totaler. Alcohol gives you courage, but does not help with your aim. When I was a teenager that lived in a rooming house by a bar and upstairs from it, I was allowed to go into the bar and order sandwiches that they sold. They let me play pool there too. I saw several fights in there between people that got drunk. I never saw anyone that was not drunk get into a fight. I was also in a branch of the U.S. Military. I don't recall seeing any fights between people who were not under the influence of alcohol. I saw people who were angry with someone, begin drinking and later was told they got into a fight with the other person. Found this on the www. Risk Factors According to one study, the following risk factors may increase the risk of alcohol-related aggression:1 Being male Binge drinking Having high levels of trait anger Having a sensation-seeking personality Having underlying irritability Having friends or relatives who exhibit aggression under the influence of alcohol Lacking empathy https://www.verywellmind.com/alcohol-facilitates-aggression-62647
  5. If there had been no alcohol involved, "drinking since the previous evening" would this mayhem have occurred?
  6. I know a grump old man, married to a Thai woman. He doesn't live in Thailand. My brother in law! Now, in my house, the grumpy old person is my Thai wife!
  7. No, yet my Thai brother in law, who was registered as a democrat voter, under the U.S. Motor Voter law when he was issued his drivers license, is still registered as a legal voter, even after the voter registrar's office was informed, he was not a U.S. citizen! He was registered as a democrat voter after presenting paperwork from the U.S. Immigration office at a Pennsylvania department of motor vehicles (DMV), allowing him to be a legal resident in the United States. A document required by the state of Pennsylvania. Under Pennsylvania law, he is not legally allowed to vote, yet for some reason the voter registrars office chose to keep him registered. I took my BIL to the DMV the day after his paperwork from the U.S. Immigration department was received. As I sat close enough nearby to hear her asking questions, the woman who finalized his drivers license, by taking his picture, and before she printed the license out, asked, do you want to register to vote? My BIL replied, no. Yet she clicked the option on her computer to register him as a democrat voter! I also had an issue with being registered under the Motor Voter registration at the Pennsylvania DMV when I moved to Pennsylvania. On being asked the question, do you want to register to vote, I responded, yes, as a republican, I later found that the lady who asked the question registered me as a democrat. This was discovered when I received my voter registration card.
  8. Oddly enough, there are hundreds of Geckos at my aunt's house in Louisiana. I don't know how they survive the winter, but they are out and about all around the house eves and porch ceiling in the warmer days, at night. Especially when the porch light is on which attracts the nocturnal flying insects.
  9. I think that is a canning device. Put the open can on the platform, put the lid on it, activate, and it rolls the can lid over the lip of the can, sealing it.
  10. No, it is true. That's why all those guys I knew in the Army in Vietnam and Thailand back in the early 1970's who were beer drinkers are still preserved hansum man. I'm not because I don't drink! Just look at my picture!
  11. Is a pencil gun in Thailand anything like the one in this picture? I don't recall ever hearing the term.
  12. You will have to drink a beer for both of us. I don't drink adult beverages. Which means I can't share my adventures about being an Army NSA grunt with all those CIA, Green Beret, Ranger, SEALs, I hear that inhabit the bars in Thailand!
  13. I don't know what you mean by "SS arranged". But I did write, "Makes my time in Thailand a lot more enjoyable. " I go to different places than the ones that my wife and her relative/friends go to. So the view is more pleasant. My wife knows and understands. My wife and I were in a mall here in the U.S. with a friend from work, an American woman. Her friend saw me looking at some good looking Asian women as they walked by. As if I couldn't hear her, she asked my wife, don't you get upset when your husband looks at other women? My wife said, no, he's a man. That's what men do! One problem with going out with the wife and friends is, usually it is to a restaurant, and they have a big feast. I don't eat much in one sitting. So I finish eating in about 15 minutes and then wait an hour or more in a restaurant as everyone else finishes.
  14. The airlines you use charges you so you can select the seats you want?? What airlines are those. The airlines I fly on let me choose the seats without any additional charges.
  15. After going to Thailand several times and going out to eat etc, I grew tired of not being included in the conversations, because of my limited Thai language skills. I know enough to live here, but not enough to have an adult conversation. I finally told my wife I was not going out with her and her friends because of this. After she understood, I was left behind to fend for myself. Makes my time in Thailand a lot more enjoyable.
  16. That happened to me. I was in a cellular phone service store waiting to be called to the English speaking desk. I asked the lady a question and she started speaking Thai and looking to the side of me. I looked and there was a woman on my left. I asked the lady why she was speaking to the woman and she told me something like, it is easier to explain in Thai to your wife. I told her my wife is in America. I don't think she can hear you! She said, no your wife right there. I told her to ask if she is my wife, the lady behind me said she wasn't my wife, seemed to be embarrassed, and walked out of the store!
  17. There is a science to hanging to assure that the neck breaks correctly. Years ago I read about it. You need at least a 12 foot drop before the rope stops the person from falling and the person must weigh over 150 pounds. If the person weighs less than 150 pounds or you cannot facilitate a 12 foot drop, then add weight to bags tied to the feet of the hangee! I think there is a formula to determine how much weight to add.
  18. Someone determined to die could do it. Years ago, while taking a medical course, the class was taken to a room where a mad (I meant man not mad, but you could say he was a mad man i.e. crazy) lie dead of self inflicted knife wounds to his chest. He stabbed himself several time until he was able to stab himself in the heart! If a person could stab themselves in the chest multiple times, then someone could cut their own throat. Before you believe the guy did not stab himself ... he did it in a bus station in front of more than 50 people waiting for their bus and several police. It happened very quickly, before the police could stop him.
  19. Make jokes if you will. I did a search and found that the Thai immigration website was hacked for gambling as well as Thai police websites. Someone else could, if not already done, hack that website and steal information of people entering or leaving Thailand. From looking all the other Thai government websites, pulled up with an internet search engine that have been hacked, it seems that it is only a matter of time that someone hacks the Thai government websites for identity theft reasons, again, if not already done. I have already had identity theft done to me. From a government website, one that I would not have expected to be compromised. The U.S. of A. government website Office of Personnel Management, that held personal information of people to run background investigations for those that needed security clearances. Information that for me was literally from birth to then current, plus background information on parents. If I recall correctly I was informed that data on 3 million security clearances was stolen. The Federal Government paid for two, different, credit watch companies to watch for illegal applications for credit in my name. Three weeks after I left Thailand after that, both my credit cards had been canceled. When I contacted my credit card company I was told that someone claiming to be me, claimed to be traveling in Europe through 4 or 5 different countries and was going to use the credit cards. They knew all personal data about me! I don't know if that was related, but I believe it was.
  20. Off topic a bit, but my experience leads me to think the dog, if it survives, will move the next time a car drives near it. Where I was living one time, people moved into a rental about 3 houses down. They had a dog that bit at people walking by, nipped me on the back of the leg, chased bicycles etc. The dog didn't bark, just attacked people. I was on my bike one day and didn't see it coming, it grabbed my pant leg and I nearly crashed to the ground. The kids, when they were outside on the steps would just watch it chase and try to bite people walking by. The mother watched it chase people sometimes when she was out on the steps. I talked to the mother and kids one day, asking why they let their dog attack people. Everyone of them claimed the dog would not do what they watched it doing!! I got fed up with the dog doing what it did when it bit an old man who could barely walk with a cane. The dog moved away from him when he tried to hit it with his cane. The kids just watched it happen. Old man managed to walk home and the kids went inside the house. I got my bike, my slingshot, and a rock about 3/4 inch, rode down the street then back to my place on the sidewalk. Dog ran for me and as it got close I shot with the slingshot. Dog yelped and ran back to the house. Next day as I walked home to my place, the kids asked me if I had hurt their dog. No. I didn't! Dog still tried to bite people walking by, but every time a bicycle went by, it ran back to the steps.
  21. I have retired, have several sources of legal income, with more than the B40,000 requirement. My income, I believe, is eligible to be received in Thailand tax free. Married to a Thai woman here in the U.S. I don't think I can get a work permit though, being over 70. I have medical insurance that covers me in Thailand. Guess I am out of luck. LOL
