Republicans begin walking back campaign promises
simple1 replied to Peabody's topic in Political Soapbox
I am not qualified to comment clearly on corporate taxation, though I have worked for Multi National Corporations. . BUT broadly I am of the opinion there are too many loopholes, especially with moving profits around the world for tax minimisation. Plus of course trump reducing corporate tax which significantly increased the national debt and was utilised to increase share buyback, and not the average working persons income. Given tariff implementation is one of trump's main platforms to improve the US economy, it will not, why are you such as ardent supporter of trump? -
We will see, take a look at Project 47. IMO elements of Project 25 will be implemented given the authors will by in the trump administration. An example from Project 47, still an admirer?... It also intends to ban agencies from other countries from buying “essential medicines”. Read more at: https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/us/what-is-agenda-47-as-trump-distances-himself-from-project-2025/articleshow/112147840.cms?utm_source=contentofinterest&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=cppst

So far as I know trump has kept very quiet of the negative impact of tariffs on the US tax payer, In any case last time he lied constantly about this matter. Tariffs are not one way. If tariffs are to paid by US consumers on imported goods, then either the retail cost of goods increase or subsidised by federal government. As an example of the two way street, last time round PRC stopped importing US soya beans due to implementation of tariffs on their goods. and US government subsidised farmer by approx $5 billion, total farm aid was $28billion. BTW the tariffs imposed on PRC imports did not work, it increased the trade gap with PRC. Link below provides more info on Fed Govt tariff costs for US tax payers and analysis of the previous trade war https://www.forbes.com/sites/stuartanderson/2020/01/21/trump-tariff-aid-to-farmers-cost-more-than-us-nuclear-forces/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China–United_States_trade_war#:~:text=After the trade war escalated, place during the Biden administration. -

For a stater tariffs, e.g. the $ billions for soya farmer subsidies or are you OK for the tax payer to absorb the costs -
GOP certainly tried very hard to or did block Obama and Biden Administration legislation. It seems trump is heading to total power, including control of the Judicial processes, so you're OK. If I'm still alive will be interesting to see how the US ends up after four years of trump. I have a strong suspicion not in a good place for a democratic society or indeed for other Western societies.

Thanks for the link which clearly outlines an authoritarian agenda. trump is a proven liar and provider of misinformation each and every day. One item caught my eye from your link: which to me is cruel and vindictive, no surprise, I'm sure there will be many other similar announcements including many if not all elements from Project 25. barring federal agencies from other countries from purchasing “essential” drugs

Current debt is costing the US taxpayer approx $850 billion p.a. So how will trump admin finance all their new policies without going further into debt by the trillions of dollars? -
Majority of actual US voters have chosen to ignore trump's ethical and moral flaw and expect him to further improve the economy and address immigrant issues. So be it, have to see what difference a trump government makes to their quality of life, together whether Project 25 is implemented. If Americans don't care if an an authoritarian government comes to the fore; on your heads. You will note all the alarm bells concerning Harris supporter violence has not occurred, nor the whining about Stolen Election blah, blah.

You guys make me laugh, when attempting to describe your opposition you're describing yourselves. An interesting read at URL below: https://libres.uncg.edu/ir/uncg/f/Lilley_uncg_0154D_13822.pdf

Snipped for brevity. OK must have misread the article. Recent results show 69,048,230 for Harris, 73,388,221 for trump out of 161,462,000 registered voters. Extraordinary massive turnaround for trump - pollsters truly screwed up. https://www.google.com/search?q=election+2024+usa&sca_esv=54fc87171c23afaa&sxsrf=ADLYWIKM4J7DwTjog_3sgYVbYl05b3mSMQ%3A1731039588475&ei=ZJEtZ7_KHKSq4-EPz5rMEQ&ved=0ahUKEwi_jI3-8MuJAxUk1TgGHU8NMwIQ4dUDCA8&uact=5&oq=election+2024+usa&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiEWVsZWN0aW9uIDIwMjQgdXNhMhEQABiABBiRAhixAxiDARiKBTIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABDIFEAAYgAQyBRAAGIAEMgUQABiABDIFEAAYgAQyChAAGIAEGBQYhwIyChAAGIAEGBQYhwJI6kxQAFiSFnAAeACQAQCYAccBoAGSDaoBAzAuObgBA8gBAPgBAZgCCaACvQ3CAgYQABgHGB7CAg0QABiABBixAxiDARgNwgIHEAAYgAQYDZgDAJIHBTAuNy4yoAfBOA&sclient=gws-wiz-serp -

68% of those who could vote did not do so. Those that did currently shows trump received roughly the same number of votes as in 2020, whereas Harris received approx 10 million less than Biden in 2020. -

Maybe you didn't but obviously other locations in US did experience shortages during trump admin, but just like Biden admin would have worked by suppliers on the supply chain. Only pointed it due to the blame Biden stuff; highly likely to get even more monotonous in the coming few years. The rest of your comments are usual blah, blah from trump world. -

Happened during trump administration as well, I guess same as Biden, panic buying https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2022/08/02/fact-check-there-were-shortages-when-trump-president/10204437002/ -
trump wasn't convicted during the impeachment process due to Senate Republicans failing in their Oath to support the Constitution. Seems to me there are significant gaps in the Constitution to convict wrong doers. I assume the Founding Fathers didn't factor in a corrupt President and his elected supporters. In other words the Constitution is due for revision, but will not occur whilst current GOP in power.

Are you trying to claim Murdoch media is not a committed supporter of MAGA world - LOL However, you can link to today's The Australian, (Australia's only national newspaper) will get plenty of content to support my post. But to repeat not going to run through endless argument. -
Haven't read all the posts, but the one's I have read are all from MAGA world gloating

Can't be bothered to run through circular arguments, other than to say Obama and co appointed people with relevant credentials, not solely based upon to their political POV. -
Just for a starter - 'reduce cost of government by 80%': BS

Authoritarian is probably more accurate, will have to what unfolds in the coming few years whether trump is just a blow hard or not. Posting links to credible sources is actually a forum rule. The Australian press is dominated by Murdoch who are nauseating supporters of MAGA as are some Australian, though not the majority -

As you well know trump empowers those who reflect his ideology; that is weaponising the judicial system. trump has also committed to only appoint loyalists in Cabinet and civil service, In this instance weaponising the political system. Apparently US citizens want to move the US to right of centre. from reading their posts on this forum not a good look for the future of Western democracies -
Not at all, deeply disappointed in a once great nation e.g. Marshall plan, something a trump like character would never do

Says a lot about weaponising the US justice system - i.e. undemocratic -

The other way round, MAGA has been deceived.
