  1. What a hypocrite, did everything he could while he had the power to make sure there would be no peaceful transition if the junta backers lost the vote.
  2. They can just pluck them from out of the air. What a great place to work. M|ake any guesses you like, miss the target by a mile with no repercussions, so you get to keep your well paid job, with a generous pension, and make more ludicrous guesses
  3. From the age of 16 I was a telegraphist with the Postal Service in Australia. Typing all day on an electric keyboard my best effort was an error corrected 112 wpm. When I moved to the clerical side at 28 they had started to use WP software and desk top computers. My keyboard skills were very handy. I Left work 26 years ago but still fast and accurate on a keyboard. Somethings you don't forget I guess.
  4. But is it just a 'military bill' or is it full of other wish list items, nothing to do with the military? Both parties are guilty of doing this, then accuse the other of delaying the bill, but neglect to highlight the 'fine print' it contains.
  5. Yes, a bit like the far left Democrats I think!
  6. Headline news today (on ASEAN News also) that the banking system collapsed and people could not pay bills, access money etc. Only relying on on-line transactions in Thailand, with their sloppy record with systems is not a good idea.
  7. Even more annoying to me are the sellers who list a real bargain price (often tv etc) then when you contact them they want you to pay them directly, bypassing Lazada. Good luck getting the goods then!
  8. 'could they not eventually take over the properties as they would have the majority of the shares.' If the foreigner dies, are the Thai shareholders entitled to 51% of the sale price
  9. 'The interest rates are just mental.....in our village they are 3% per month...' That's a bargain! Here in the Philippines several companies advertise on-line loans. The interest rate is 14.7% a MONTH, plus an establishment fee. GF has relatives who regularly lend out at 10% a month.
  10. The Philippines has two 'Departure' taxes. One is paid by everyone and has been included in the ticket price for many years. The other is called a 'Travel Tax' paid by all Filipinos and foreigners who have stayed more than a year since their last entry. It is 1,620 pesos There are collection booths at the airport tho some airlines let you pay when booking online. When I book flights for GF and I it allows me to pay TT for her and decline to pay for me.
  11. If a foreigner tries to rent a bike and doesn't have the right licence they will not refuse, they want the money. The law won't be enforced. Only way to enforce it is if a rider is stopped by police without a licence and shows a rental contract, then the rental company should get a heavy fine and the bike confiscated. Hit their hip pocket, only way to win.
  12. "She emphasises that transparency in fund management is crucial for the scheme’s success." I got a good laugh out of this one. Transparency in Thailand!!
  13. I watch both channels daily. Not an American but it doesn't take much 'analysis' to see that both channels lie outright. They both conveniently fail to show anything that is against their owners interests or likely to alienate their core viewer base.
  14. Didn't the PM say eight years ago that he would wipe it out? Nothing to see here folks
  15. Or the Philippines, only a cheap 3.5 hour flight away from BKK. You can enter Visa Exempt, keep extending (for a fee) for upto 3 years then leave for 1 day, return and start again. No hassles from immigration either. A few US friends been here over 3 years
  16. There is no international licence as such. It's an IDP international driving PERMIT and it is only a translation, in several languages, of your home LICENCE. It is usually available from motoring orgs in your home country. It is to be shown together with your home licence. If your home licence doesn't include a motor bike, then neither will your IDP
  17. 'jumping on the bandwagon' springs to mind. I presume the lawyers are not acting for free and taking a big slice of any cash awarded. If it costs nothing to sue, might as well get onboard
  18. Makes a mockery of genuine folk and there 90 day reporting! Just done to keep IO in a job. The real crooks don't even bother.
  19. Lots of egg on that spokesmans face after the news today that the cops involved admitted extorting her for 27k. Trust Us....... Haha
  20. Not too sure that a Thai helmet would protect you from a hit from a speeding car. Tho I didn't read that she wasn't wearing one!
  21. 'maybe give 25 % to police then maybe something would be done' No need, they already get 100% of the money they demand!
  22. The visa exempt entry has been 45 days since July last year as I recall? It will stay until 31st March with talk of extending to the end of the year. You can extend the 45 days only once, and only for 30 days. I don't know if they will give you an additional 7 days to leave when they refuse your request after your 75 day stay
  23. From a recent report 11 deaths since 2014 when the 2 Brits were murdered.
  24. He must have the most frustrating job there is! An anti-corruption activist in a country where most politicians, police etc are corrupt and very rarely is anything meaningful done about it, even when they are caught red-handed.
  25. 'because they believe they will never return here.' And I would imagine that they would have the data on overstays by Thais to support theire stand.
