  1. I'm looking to buy a Canon 350D digital SLR in Bangkok and wondering if anyone knows a good place or two - good prices, that is - to send me.

I am in the process of checking the market for just this model. Seen it for sale in a Big C fotoshop - just under 42,000 baht. Did not include a memory card, nor a proper cover, although it did include a camera bag. 1 year warranty.

Also, they would not sell the body seperately (I have a few older Canon lenses).

Emporium photoshop: 44-45,000. Don't know what this price included. Plan on checking out MBK later this week.

Bought a 350D 4 months ago in the UK, body only cost me 400.00 GBP, Thai exchange rate today about 28,000 Baht, i do not think this camera would be any cheaper in Thailand, i only bought the body as i have all the cannon lenses off my EOS 50E, if just buying the body make sure your lenses fit, they are EOS Compatable, as my 24mm Sigma, also a 28 -300 Tameron will not work with the 350D. they will not focus, i am well pleased with the camera, nice bit of kit.

  2. Paypal should work with Skype, as i hear E-Bay have bought the company, now when selling or buying on e-bay you can have a chat to your customer, thats if they have signed up through E-bay for the service.

  3. Good clean hotel guest house in Buriram, called the Book and Bed, down by the bus station, 300 Baht a night, this place is spotless with very good food, it is opposite the Vong tong hotel.

  4. Thanks mate. I just don't want to get ripped off. Especially so close to the New Year.

Yes, come to think of it, I've never seen any private planes around these parts. But in Hua Hin (Cha-Am?), you could do a course for a private pilots' licence. And I've also seen an office in the domestic terminal at Don Muang where you can charter a helicopter. This was some time ago and it might not be there anymore. Didn't pay much attention at the time.

    Hi Chris Mate,

I always get a taxi and i always pay around 3750 baht to 4500 baht that is out of bangkok, Landmark Hotel, straight to the door at my place, i used to pay a taxi guy 3750 but now he has gone down to Pattaya to work, he was working outside the grace hotel for years, and i have used him for the past 10 years, now i have to pay the going rates, about 4500 baht. may see you Jan-Feb.

  5. Reading the topic 'Rice prices in Buriram' I wondered how reliable buying and selling rice can be?

Does anyone know where on the web I could get a historical record of rice buying prices month to month?

OK, right now the price is about 7 Baht a kilo.

In February perhaps 11 Baht a kilo.

And someone was saying it can go up to 14 Baht in April.

Obviously this must vary from year to year.

But it seems to me you could never lose if you have money to invest, and perhaps almost double your money?

I've never even considered doing this before, and have simply rented out our fields for the usual 30% payoff in rice.

But as long as you invest in building a nice cosy dry chang, what's to stop you?

    Any comments would be appreciated.

Over the years my wife and I have purchased a lot of land, we have her family farming it at a percentage of 60-40, 60% to the family, most thais do 70-30 but we are pretty good to them and sometimes buy the fertalizers, they make a good living and we get a nice profit once a year, i bought all the land, but in the wifes name as everything in thailand is, this does not bother me as it will pass to my two daughters in the future also land is going up in value, if you have the land get your wifes family to farm it, you may be better off, i have also got a lot of building land, and am trying to think of what to grow on it in the meantime, give it a go, this year was a poor harvest on last.

  6. We're in Nakhon Ratchasima, and although the local rate is 7 Baht/kilo at present, my brother in law has sold the rice to the 'local government' (whoever that means).

They are buying up at just under 10 baht / kilo and paying before the end of the year.

    Andy

They do say if you have an account with the thai farmers bank, now kaliskorn bank, you will sell your rice for more, it go's straight to the government, but i do not trust this bank. i will wait like i have done in previous years, and just watch the prices, i have around 300 85 kilo bags up to now. so could double my money if i wait untill march.

  7. Hi Guys,

Had all my rice harvest done, did not get as much as last year, quite a poor harvest, as planted later, some years outstanding some years poor, thats the way it go's, i am in the UK at the moment, i was wondering if anybody knows the price of Rice at the moment, how much one kilo, i can then work my quota out.

    Thanks Guys.....................................

    Hi Thaicoon

I suppose you will have dried rice stored by now. Price of dry rice round Burriram is now about 9 THB. I usually sell wet, but because of bad prices at time of harvest decided to dry and store. Have my own facilities for storage, so no extra cost. With the normal trend I suppose in January/Februari price will go up to about 10/11 THB Don't sell if you don't need to. It can be better than money in the bank :o

Thanks for the info, not had such a good harvest as last year, but i like just to check prices out from time to time, most years i sell in feb, so i will wait untill i am back at home. i can now roughly work out how much baht i will get on the quantities, thanks.

  9. I live in a small family compound, which contains several snakes. So far, we have only found green snakes and don't think we have anything terribly lethal, but since there are several small children in the compound we wish to have the snakes removed. Can anyone recommend a reputable company that would safely remove any and all snakes and relocate them to a more appropriate location (not the neighbor's yard).  It would be helpful, for a fee of course, if company could send someone periodically to make sure they don't find their way back.

    Please let me know.

    Thank you,

You mention you have green snakes, are they the small green ones, if so they are lethel, they are the Bamboo viper. nasty little b e g g e r s.

  10. Are us ferangs getting to much info off Thai Visa, the answer is yes, and guess who told me, my Thai Wife.............

Sometimes when i am surfing Thai Visa i will tell her something i have read and she walks out of the room saying Bulls... , I laugh.

She says to me, you know more about thailand than I, then i wind her up, she sulks and gets jealous, the first thing i do is to make sure i lock the drawer where the knives are kept.

But every now and again she uses the site to check exchange rates, and to catch up on things, We live in the UK and she has been here for 10 Years, i love her to bits, but we do wind each other up.

Any of you guys had this off your Thai partner.

Thai Visa is a great site and the Guys who answer posts are a superb bunch, i have met a few good mates through this site, Keep up the good work Thai Visa.

  11. I did post this before but I would appreciate any of your opinions on this

Well the wife has just returned from the land office and has informed me that we ,excuse me .I have to pay 30 000 for the land transfer in to her name

In this forum on Pseacraft,s post on a 1 million baht block he paid around 57 000 to the land office

I have 1 rai worth 100 000 so if i use that formula it should only be 1 tenth of pseacrafts tax lets say around 6000 baht

    Am i right or not

Wifey says its because the block is on a corner of a main road and a small dirt road

I should sure use some experience here

I doubt that she is trying to extract more from me its just she believes what everybody tells her

In the beginning she was told she would have to pay 80 000 for that 1 rai

Just to add to the confusion she told me a local had 13 rai and paid 80 000 in Tax

Married to a farang of course

    Any information or advise please!!!

    Hi Wozza,

Still having trouble, as i said in the previous post, i also think it would be around 6 to 7000 Baht, i also have land in the same position as yours, and i have never paid nearly the price of the purchase to the land office. crazy.

  12. There is a store in the Mall Nom wong wang In nonthaburi that sells the laquer furniture, nice veriety too. I believe its on the 4t floor with all the other furniture stores.

Its in a non farang area of bangkok so you wont pay overly inflated prices  :o

    Greg

Cheers greg, next time i am in Bangkok i will check it out, much apreciated.

hmm...although i still haven't seen the tickets yet i'm hoping they right lol

I think this is a bit steep, when westeast does the same flight return for 335.00 GBP. flown on this flight many times, never had a delay.

And the return can be open for 12 months, if you ask. it does help if you have a frequent flyer gold with thai. but still the same price.

    have a good flight.

  14. I have to re decorate our beach house in Koh samui, I'm planning a trip to bangkok could someone please point me in the right direction for furniture , lighting and accessories shops in Bangkok + good places to buy a wide variety of silk fabric ( other than Jim Thompson)

Antiques are real at the River City complex, I have heard. They do have a website but it doesn't tell you much.

    River city antique auction

But this search came up with alot of websites:Thai antiques websites

    Thanks SBK,

  18. Is there anywhere in Bangkok i can purchase Chinese Lacquer Furniture, like cabinets etc, they sometimes have mother of pearl inlays etc, interested in a Herbalists cabinet, room divider, a nice chinese screen, etc, been to chinatown only thing i could find there were those amazing grandfather clocks with a german movement and really nice mother of pearl inlays, bought one for 16,000 baht, any websites i can look at in thailand..
