  1. Nearly ripped off, asked for a taxi in the hotel i was staying to go to suan lam night bazzar, he told me 100 Baht, i thought what the ######, got in his taxi and he started going the wrong way, about 15 mins he pulled up outside a big gem store, you come buy some gems he said, i told him more than twice, not interested, he was persistant, so i got out the taxi, and walked towards the heighway, hailed a yellow green cab, and on my way, he was shouting where my 100 baht, i told him to get lost, and got to my destination with the metred cab,

When i went back to the hotel the driver was in the lobby, still been a pain in the ass about this 100 baht, i told him, if he had done his job right first time i may of given him a good tip, but when trying to rip people off, go and sing for your 100 baht, never used the guy again.

  2. At the moment i have a Lloyds TSB investment manager chasing me to buy life insurance, if i can obtain this in Thailand i will not bother buying it in the Uk, just wondering if a ferang can buy life insurance in Thailand, as i am moving there in the near future for good, i know if you by policys in the Uk, sometimes if you move overseas they become void, also the investment manager gets a good slice of the cake.

I have a bank account with the Siam Commercial Bank, maybe they do life insurance.

Now i have a wife and kids, time to take out a policy, should of done it before, all replys much appreciated, thanks guys.

  3. My wife and i have just bought another 3 Rai, main road frontage and a corner plot, for 300,000 Baht, bargain, not rice land, the old story, the lady owner owes the chinese loan shark, so she had to sell pretty quick. just going to sit on it for a few years, this is situated just outside Buriram.

  4. Thaicoon,

I checked out siam.net and found more than a few decent options in the 18 to 21 USD per night range.

    Thanks for the tip!

A bit more than 600 baht, but not by much.

What i like about this site is that you can veiw the hotels on line, rooms etc, so you know what you are getting, also it is a secure transaction if booking on line.

  5. Grant,

Me doing the same next year, shipping a 20 footer, as far as i know you can only have one shipment, duty free for your wife, that is if she is moving back from the UK, i would not bother about TVs as most of them do not work in Thailand, other electrical goods are so cheap in Thailand so why bother, sell em in the Uk, and buy new.

A mate of mine did this a couple of years ago, in his wifes name, he went to the docks the thais, inspected his container, then gave him a bill for 50,000 baht, tax for a washing machine, he should of let his Mrs go, maybe they saw a ferrang and thought lets sting him, you know the score.

  6. Thanks people for your replies,

I found that www.dialaround.co.uk and www.dialwise.co.uk both only charge 1p per minute to mobiles. My Missus can yak my head off for hours (love her to death though) so within 2 weeks i'll probably have saved enough for a return fareto BKK!!

What a top site this is, only found it the other day. Keep it up.

    Mr BJ

Nice one Mr BJ, Just rang Thailand on the 1p per Number, works great, My wife well happy, at the moment i have 6 Thai ladys here in the house cooking Thai food, staying with us for a week.

I have just left them fighting over a pen to write these cheap numbers down, i am now waiting for a que at the phone, i will try to charge them 10p per min, ha, ha,

  7. Am I correct in thinking that if you have managed to legitimately set up a paypal account in the UK, then you subsquently move to Thailand, Paypal will disallow you access to your own account as it will recognise a 'foreign' IP address.

I think maybe you will be ok, if there is a problem with the ip address in thailand, keep your ip address in the Uk, and log onto it from Thailand, that does work, as i tried it in a internet shop in Buriram, to see if i had any new feedback left me, you can still keep your UK bank account then, transfer your money from Paypal into your UK bank and take it out in Thailand with a ATM Card. be a small charge, if you are selling add a couple of quid to the postage costs to cover this and your commision to paypal.

I checked my paypal account from the same internet shop, if doing this from an internet shop make sure you delete all your details when signing off.

  8. Taking my last free flight with Thai in August, 65,000 Miles London-Bangkok return, have to pay the dreaded 65.00 Airport tax, i am taking this free flight in August as they are expensive, so what i have paid for the Mrs and the two children, 1700 GBP, taking my free flight into acount it has really cost me a 1020 GBP, thats one way of looking at it and it does not sound to bad then.

    1020.00 GBP- 4 X 4 passngers = 255.00 Each,

makes me feel a bit better not bitter.

Booked my flight yesterday from the UK, the thaiairways staff in London took 65,000 miles off my gold card, checked it now on line, maybe it is 52,000 if booking from Bangkok ?.

  9. Thetyim, WOW mate. This is exactly why I started this thread. Look at those machines. I can't decide which one i like more.

I will definately keep on top of this as so far it seems my best bet.

    Your a champ mate.

    Cheers

A 911 like mine, or one of those nice machines would look good in your Driveway of that great house of yours, good pics, made a nice job, cheeky ferang has done a good job also. check mine out on members photo albums.

  10. To open a verified paypal account on E-bay, they will need your issuing bank, to become varified you will need a credit card, once you have registered with them they will pay 2 small deposits into your current account, you must remember these when going back into paypal, enter these amounts and you can receive or send money, to become varified like myself they will do the same thing on your credit card statement, by them paying into your card $1.95, by the side of this there is a varication code, you must enter this into the relevent box when next logging into paypal, you can then accept and send larger amounts of cash, the only banks you can send cash into are UK, EUROPE, JAPAN USA, and maybe a couple more, it is a damm pity you cannot pay money from paypal into a Thai account, at the moment i have a big problem with E-Bay and the relevent parties in the UK, so have not used it for a month, my mate Kringle knows about this.

  11. Only free if the person you are ringing has SKYPE, otherwise you can buy Euro tokens on line with skype, My thai wife has a number she phones Thailand from the UK, 3p Per Min, this is even cheaper than skype rates, i will get the number off her and post it on this forum.

  12. Hi, Any ferangs that live in buriram, know a few that get into the Bamboo and see dave, lets get togeather for a few chaings, been going to Buriram for 12 years so know a few, it would be good to know a few more, and exchange information about the province and the people, great place.

Do you know there is a new bar / restaurant opening in Buriram around 15th June on Bulamduan road next door to The European Foodstore called Woodstock & Vine - plenty of rock 'n' roll / decent food / over 20 imported beers / air - con etc.

    www.woodstockandvine.com

Toddy, been watching your website for a month now , good site, I will be back in August, should of been there now but in big trouble in the uk right now, not good, hope to see you soon,

  13. All the Woman in my little town in Wales, are, Fat, ugly and out for a one night stand, no tasty ones here, when i take my Thai Mrs out, all the local guys cannot keep there eyes off her, next day they all have there wellies on chasing sheep, the mind boggles.

  14. I know a guy that went to Syngapore, overland through Thailand, he went from London to St Petersburg in Russia then got a ticket on the trans siberia railway to China, from China i think he did the same to Veitnam, then on buses through Cambodia, got to Bangkok and caught the train straight down to Syngapore, i think it cost him quite a bit as he was telling me the ticket on the trans siberia was quite expensive, not sure which train he used in Thailand, as the equivelent of the old oreint express go's to Syngapore from Bangkok, that is expensive.

  15. Just booked a Return yesterday with Thai Airlines, London-Bangkok, stupid price, Departing July 10th 636.00 GBP, These bloody school holidays, why do airlines in the UK and holiday firms just rip people off this time of year, also they charged me 400.00 GBP for a 3 year old child.
