  1. I posted this on the Visa to other countries recently. No responses and fast dissapearing off the front page. Thought I would move it a bit closer to the action :D

Just been told by Mrs Daddy, we are going to the "border market" near Chong Chom, to buy some curtains :D

As the holder of an extension of non-o visa, what requirements would I need to think about? Would a re-entry permit be required? Would it restart the 90 day reporting clock?

I am sure I read somewhere, that visitors to this market (farang) do not actually get processed out and back in by immigration :o

Anybody, been there, done that? :D

Been there a few times, i go there to do a bit of gambling in the Casino then go down the market to eat, there is a good restaurant there, the Thais stamped me in and out, but did not get a cambodian stamp in the passport, as they said if i was just there to visit the casino and do some shopping no worrys, he did ask for 100 baht which he put in his back pocket, if you are bringing Cigs or booze back, they are strict. so watch your quotas.

  2. ME AGAIN...........................

Huray, Huray.............. Got through and got some sense,

Spoke to a Thai member of staff at 3 oclock, very helpfull, you do need an appointment, so she gave an appointment for 9.30 Monday 23rd, which is spot on.

    Bergerac,

Ring the embassy, after 1500, you need extension number 5504 and that will get you through to passport/visa section, and they will give you an appointment. all the best,

All you need for your wifes new passport is a photo, application form, old passport and the wifes ID Card, the thai lady at the embassy told me you can fill the form out at the embassy.

  3. You might have the wife read the London web site on Passports while you wait for an answer. Perhaps it will answer you. One thing that you should check is if passport has already been renewed for second 5 years or not.

    Lopburi,

Yes it is ID Numbers, sorry not cards but same sort of thing, my wife has not got her mothers ID number and the family cannot find it. surely if a thai has had an ID card, that surely is all that is needed, and an old passport.

The link to the passport page from the Thai embassy, if you download 1, E-passport that is the form that asks for your mother and fathers id Numbers. still trying to get through to them, got extension numbers now, but no answer.

  4. You can download forms of the net, but my wife tells me they are a bit confusing as they ask for Mother and Fathers id cards

Indeed that sounds strange, especially considering parents of many passport holders will be deceased. Perhaps they mean the ID card numbers rather than the cards?

Very strange, I have just been on to the Embassy, cannot beleive it got through first time, only one problem, 2 members of staff there has told me no Appointment needed for new passport, then this morning told by the operator appointment needed, ring this afternoon, canot help us, who's right ?, you can not get any sense off them. i will keep you posted what they tell me this afternoon, as i want to find out as well about these id cards.

If Appointment needed, lets hope i can get one for next monday as hotel booked. seems worse than the british Embassy, it cannot be that bad..............................

  5. My wife's Thai passport expires in September.

We are unable to travel to Thailand to renew it.

We live in the Channel Islands, can we renew it by post either in London or Thailand.

I have tried the Thai embassy in London but cannot get through on their phone line .

    Thanks in advance guys.

    B.

My wife is in the same situation, she has to go to the Thai embassy in London, we are going next monday 23rd, i did get through eventually and spoke to a member of staff, she told me no appointment needed, just send a self addressed envelope for the application forms, recorded delivery, and turn up at the Embassy, my wifes passport also runs out September, but she has had this extended once, so now time for a new E-Passport, Fingerprints etc.

You can download forms of the net, but my wife tells me they are a bit confusing as they ask for Mother and Fathers id cards, so we have sent direct to the Embassy for the forms, no use sending them an E-Mail, does not work, Returned, we have had my wifes family send copys of the id cards, just to be on the safe side.

There is an operator available from 14.00 to 16.00 hours, Mon-Fri, that is who i spoke to, you have got to keep trying, took me ages.

You can not renew Thai Passport by Post.

If you are going to London, there is a damm good hotel near to the Embassy, the QUEENS GATE CONCORD, 3star, booked through the net, 39.00 GBP per person per night, and children free,

Sorry to keep editing this post, this damm Wireless Keyboard keeps playing up.

  6. All the official information advises people to transfer the stamp, but as the government will make a handy £335 if you do it by post or £500 if you do it in person, then they would, wouldn't they!

She has ILR, the fact that the stamp confirming this is in an old passport doesn't change this. Keep the old passport together with the new one and show both when required.

Did you know that as Thailand is now issuing 'e' passports she will not be able to renew it by post, but will have to go to the RTE in Kensington? They will want to take a digital photo and her fingerprints.

BTW, as the spouse of a British citizen she qualified for naturalisation as British after living in the UK for 3 years, i.e. 7 years ago!

    Thanks Guys.

Yes, last time my wife renewed her passport she did it by post, but in the next couple of weeks we are going to the Embassy to get her a new passport, got a lot of other things to ask them as well, i have a 4 year old daughter who needs a Thai Passport,

Also got a 14 Year old Thai daughter who is in Boarding school in Shropshire, who is off to a sister school in New York to study this summer, so i will have to get her a UK passport, she also has been in the UK for 8 years.

  7. My wife who has been in the UK with me for 10 years, her Thai Passport runs out in September 2006, she had a five year passport, then they extended it by another 5 years, so this is running out, no problem getting a new Thai Passport, i will go to the Embassy at Queens gate, London, one thing i am concerned about is her INDEFINATE STAY VISA for the UK, will she have to re-apply, to have one put in her new passport or can she still show the visa in her old passport when returning from Thailand to the UK, other people have told me show her both passports when going through immigration in London, there should not be a problem.

I have told her to get a British Passport, now she is thinking about it. as she is entitled to one after living here or 10 years.

I know i will get some good answers of you guys, it's just to put my mind at rest

  8. Hi Shrek and ms Shrek,

There is probably another small problem ( at least me an the misses had, she's living with me in Amsterdam) is. If your wife is living with you in England, you/she can't buy land at all, cause right now she isn't living in LOS. So what we did, we bought our land put it in Mom's name, and 1 year later she changed it in to my wifes name, parents are free to give there childeren property.

    So find this out first.

The most answers are you already given above. And .............GOOD LUCK aswell.

my wife buys land in Buriram and sends the cash over by bank transfer to her sister, then when my wife visits thailand, she puts in her own name.

also the money must come from my wife not i, but hey guys, does that happen............

  9. Has anyone tried Picasa?

    Barry

    Barry,

I also have Picasa 2, loaded on my PC, i find it is more for viewing only, i dont seem to be able to crop with this software, maybe i am using it wrong, i find photags the best. i only really use them when putting items on ebay.

One thing i like about Picasa is the layout, that is superb, menu above each album and very vibrant.

  10. I also live in the UK, but frequent Thailand as often as i can, My wife and i have bought land and property over the years, we now have about 100 Rai in different parts of Buriram, if you trust your wife, why not buy, land only go's up in value, where ever it is, but not big bucks like the Uk, also buy some rice land and get the family to work it, you can get a percentage every year, Thai's work on 70%, 30% land owner, i have 40% as i do help them out with fertilizer etc, also the land will never be in your name, it will be in your wifes, to measure the land, look at the deeds and there will be numbers in corners of the plot, those numbers should corraspond with the concrete marker posts, the land registry office will measure the plot if asked, before paying anyone get your wife to study the deeds first, as there are so many titles, another thing is do you and your wife have children, if yes, in the long run they will benifit, thats the way i look at it.

Good Luck......................................... some guys will tell you you may need it, but touch wood so far i have been one of the "lucky ones", and a lot of guys who know me say the same, all the best..

  11. Hi Guys, as some of you know i have a place in Buriram, i am looking for an old friend of mine who use to live in my town in Wales, i have not seen him for 8 years as he has moved around in Thailand, i have heard on the grapevine he now lives in Satuk, just a stone's throw away from Buriram, i will be back in Thailand in Feb, i was wondering if there are any of you guys on the forum who live in Satuk and know this guy and maybe give me his details to go and look him up, his name is Frank Ellis, he would be in his 70s, i would love to see him as he is a bit of a character, thanks......

    Hi Thaicoon

Frank does indeed live in Satuk I saw him recently (Nov 05) whilst on my most recent trip, If you go to Satuk and find 711 immediately opposite in the market is a bar with an outside table where the farangs gather each late afternoon evening, most nights you will find him there 5-6 o'clockish.

    TBWG :o

Thanks for the e-mail TBWG, this site Thai Visa is great and so are the guys that post on here, how ever else would i have got this information, well done, i cannot wait to see my old friend and have a few chaing's with him.

  13. pbair

All the info you need havin used them as yet though 3300bht return not bad

    RAB

Beware; that price is not right. The price is 2,300 single, 4,600 return. When I queried it they told me that 1,650 is the right price, but then you have to pay landing tax, fuel surcharge and airport fees. Only in Thailand would they get away with that trick. But of course T.I.T.

I remember the days it was 900 baht one way, i will only use this service now if i have to get to Bangers one day and back the next, otherwise i will drive or use the train.

  14. I am in the UK, i rang my sister in law in Thailand on friday to register my sim card, i gave her my mobile number and the number which is on the sim, she went to the dtac shop and registered it in my name and address in thailand, but used her id card as a back up, no problem, lets hope it is working when i get to Bangers in Feb.

  15. Try Martin at the Ferrang conection, Surin, he has the real ales, this is one thing i miss when in Thailand, the old Rev James, Old perculier, speckled hen, London Pride, hel_l i am gasping, just popping out for a beer,........... mid day in the UK.

I will have one for you,................................

  16. When i was in Thailand, was given a cheapo mobile and prepaid sim after lsing my own when a little tipsy. Guess it will not be of any use to me when i return in June :D

So I suppose I will have to buy a new one and register it when I come back :o

Sent an e-mail to DTAC this morning and had a reply, more or less straight away, saying when i come out to Thailand in Feb, i can still register my Sim card at any dtac office in Bangkok. so i will try this, lets hope this works.

I will also print this e-mail off and take with me to there office.

  17. :o HI could any body tell me if they have apartments to rent in buriram  i am coming there for 3months shortly and would like to find an apartment if possible i did read on this forum once about a new guest house called BED @BOOKS  would somebody have there contact details as i might try there if i can not find an apatment  thank you

I have a place 4 kms outside Buriram. also have a bungalow to rent in the same village, postmark me for details, bed and book is owned by a mate of mine's family, very good place, very clean and good food, it is situated opposite the Vong thong hotel, it is a corner property next to a car hire place. i will find my mates phone number and postmark you, you can call him for details.

  18. If i see these anywhere i make sure i chop em up, nasty little beggers, 4 years ago i got bitten by one, came out of the house in the morning to go into town, put my shoes on, one curled up in the bottom of the shoe, hel_l it was b l o o d y painfull, and my foot was swollen up double the size, went straight to buriram hospital, lucky i was ok, now i always check my shoes.

  19. If i was based in Thailand full time, i would love to do this been a keen photographer, all you need is a damm good digital camera with a decent wide angle lens as the more good photos the more interest on the web, i know this when selling on e-bay, i put about a dozen photos of the item, i host these with photobucket.com, so no e-bay fees and no charge from photobucket, in september i put a 911 turbo for sale on e-bay, reserve of 18,000 GBP i actually sold it for 22,000 just because i hosted about 15 photos

  20. I started doing this Ten years ago, not much stuff regarding handicrafts coming into the Uk then so i was lucky and made quite a bit of cash out of it all, i stopped about 15 months ago, as my sales slowed up, i am lucky as i buy cheap and sell retail in my shops so i can keep the prices lower than other retail outlets, in the UK now the market is a bit flooded, everybody is doing it, you see thai stuff on market stalls in the high street etc, if you are thinking seriously i could give you some good contacts in Chaing Mai, i also used to buy goods in Isarn, as that is where i spend most of my time, i used to bring back Furniture, wood carvings, Guians, Cartwheels, the Guians and wheels I would buy in essarn, but they are now high prices to buy in that region, if you were thinking of wheels, i have about 120 in a yard in Chaing mai, i could do you a deal. check my site out. www.gandajones.co.uk
