  1. I've just been trawling through the DWP website and have developed brain ache. I shall give it another go later.

    So far, a few observations:

They are very coy - i.e do not provide any specific information on either which countries will freeze your pension, and how you get an NI number for you wife. In both cases, you must contact them to get further information.

The current basic pension is 87.30 per week (provided you qualify for 100% pension by virtue of your NI contributions)

Many, including me, are also entitled to an "additional State Pension" (SERPS) if you made contributions during the relevant period. Worth checking into as mine is around 53 quid a week.

We have already established that there is no married man's pension, per se, but I think what sniffer is referring to is an additional allowance for a 'non - working wife' - i.e. a dependant. Additionally there seems to be a bereavement and/or widow's pension available to such people when you die. This is the area that has given me brain ache, and it is still unclear to me exactly what our rights and/or our wife's rights are when we die.

Going back to the "Serps" pension, it also seems pretty clear that you widow will be entitled to receive 50% of this after your death.

Anyone have anything more to add to this?

When my wife had her interveiw for her NI number, it was quite a process, but things may of changed again now, my wife had to sit through an interveiw for about 1 hour, had to show passport and dates of arrival and departure out of the UK etc, what got my back up is that they would not let me sit through the interveiw with her, as then her English was not up to scratch, she could speak English fine but had trouble understanding some of the red tape been asked to her.

  2. It's a crying shame UK hadn't adopted these visa regulations a couple of decades back. We might have had a decent country to return to then.

And the UK and Thailand are similar countries IN WHAT WAYS???????~~~~~!!!!!!!

That was the point . Please engage brain before opening mouth...........................in no ways. That's why it's nice to have a decent country to go back to. Somewhere different. England now is overun with jobless immigrants (ah, sorry. That is like Thailand)

Jobless imigrants.........? Jobless ferangs kept by the taxpayer who do not want to work just claim benifits, single mothers getting a bun in the oven for more doe off mr Brown, no he is not the father, he is the godfather, he thinks he is.

Most of the polish in the UK work and are good workers, i cannot get british part time staff, as they are not interested in working as get to much cash of the state for doing F-All, i have two polish girls working for me and they are superb, i pay them 6 pounds per hour.

There are also immigrants that are sucking off the government, but you can only blame one person for this, that is the blair government and now Brown, for letting them in, in the first place, they should be made to work and pay UK tax whilst here.

  3. The Brits taught me an interesting word. Whinge. Whinger sounds more descriptive than complainers. Some people actually enjoy whinging and no matter how good they have it they will always be whingers.

Then we have the paranoid group. That group is alway looking for supposed slights. They worry about everyone trying to cheat them in one way or another. It's not healthy to be paranoid, better to be a whinger. :o

I have a Business in the UK, every day get the same old people in, whinging about the weather, the price of things, you name it they whinge about it, i overcharged one guy by a penny, he moaned if he had just lost a million bucks, i gave it him back and told him put it towards your pension, it is the same the world over, always the same people complaining, they come to Thailand moaning "its to hot" the foods to spicy, when they are in the UK they are moaning its to cold, cannot please everyone.

But that is life for some people and we have to put up with it.

  4. I have just looked into this, i am 43 moving to Thailand, Thai wife, the government have told me i can pay volantary contributions at 7.20 per week, when living overseas, then entitled to a full pension, at the rate it is when i reach retirement age, then it is frozen.

I have been S-Employed since i was 16, so must pay in for 30 years, got 3 years left, this use to be 44 years i think.

But who knows, the way this government is in the UK will there be a pension :o

Check this out carefully on the government website. I was actually advised by an employee of the DWP that I should pay the 'employed' rate rather than the self employed rate as it is much lower. He told me that there is no check if you declare that you are 'employed' in Thailand, rather than self employed, and that everyone does this. The employed rate will still qualify you for your pension.

In any case, I don't know your circumstances, but if you have your own company in LOS then you are employed by the company, and therefore you are employed and not self employed.Even if you are doing nothing here, tell them you are employed - you will save yourself a lot of money in contributions.

    Mobi,

Thanks, i will check this out, also i will ask my accountant closer the time, as everyone knows on this forum, it is a big decision moving overseas and a lot of red tape to get through in the process.

  6. Whilst visiting Roi-Et a couple of years ago, I went to a local Temple with TGF and her son(17).

We saw a monk who was telling fortunes, my G/F wanted the monk to help her son to stop smoking.

The monk gave us a small bowl of water, a small piece of wood and a sharpening stone. We had to rub the wood against the wetted stone, this formed a very weak paste in the water, altogether, we used three different types of wood. He was then made to drink it all.

Ten minuites later, he was sick as a dog, and the sickness lasted two days.

It kept him off the fags for about a year.

They do this quite a lot at the temples, my mate had this done to him, Ferrang, his problem was drinking two bottles of L/C every morning when he got up, he was sick as a dog for 10 days after, it has stopped him and all he drinks now is Chaing, but still has the shakes.

  7. What REALLY gets under your skin the most in the LOS? My particular pet peeve is in regards to Samlors. Trying to drive down-town where Samlors are STILL used can be MOST infuriating, and quite dangerous for the Samlor-drivers too. I've often wondered why these 3-wheeled obstructions are astill allowed on the roads? BTW, I live in the provinces!

    Anyone else? :o

Its culture seeing these, and they have been around a lot longer than the car, i tend to like seeing them, and we should give them right of way, thats my opinion, go to Vietnam and try driving around there, then you will complain.

  8. Hi all

does anyone have there post redirected from a UK home address to there thailand home ?

and if so any ideas on delivery times ?

cost seems to be £79 for 12 months redirection but no mention of how long it takes, although they do say it it forwarded via airmail

and out of interest what is the thai postage system like ? i can't ever recall having ever seen what i recognise to be a postman !

Its a damm site better tham the UK postal service at the moment, beleive me.......

  9. Nice find, Looks like an Austin 7 chummy, maybe late 20s, then in the 30s the ruby was intoduced, now this car when fully restored in the UK, is worth up to 10 gran, been a convertable, here is a link.

    http://www.austinsevenownersclub.com/gallery/

Myself i have fully restored a ruby a few years back, simple little cars to work on.

Also if you could get the id numbers, the Austin 7 club could most likely identify the car and give some history on it, they would love to know about.

  10. posted this before... but here it is again:

Here are a few links copied from my own favorites. First off though, you have to make sure you *trust your husband or wife* (step 1), especially if you're a foreigner and not purchasing a condo. Yeah, common sense, but an awful lot of people seem to SKIP over that part and jump right into *purchasing capital assets* (for most folks, that's usually around step 3 or 4).

    Thanks Heng,

  11. When you say good grub at night:

do you mean hotel coffee shop menu,or food you take in from outside ?

    :o Wiley Coyote

As i say, when in Bangkok, i sometimes go in there about 1 to 2 in the morning and have a sit down meal, fair play, the food is good, and the bar is good, as someone else says conveinient, but i can never understand why thai's do not maintain there propertys.

But i would not stay there, as the rooms are grubby, everyone to his own opinion.

  12. I wouldn't be seen dead at Nana Hotel.

I would even be embarrased to have put on the arrival card that I was staying there.

You might as just write "Pervert" across your forhead.

If you think the Nana is bad, try the grace, or the peep inn, just as bad.

Only one thing that is ok with the nana, good grub late at night, last time i stayed there was about 8 years ago, grotty rooms, bet you it has not improved, thai's do not like to spend money on improvements to buildings, when these new hotels open good for a few years, then they become run down and dirty.

in the early 90s the Nana was good, you get what you pay for.

  13. Just to let the folks know that my mobile is out of order till I go to town on Monday, if anyone needs to contact me send me a PM and I will give you an alternative number

Oh Mac, You should pay ya bill :o
