fellow owners of the cbr 500 r! are you feeling some engine vibrations when going above 4 to 5k rpm? thats when i start to feel them. its not that strong but i can indeed feel some more vibrations at those rpms. when driving some long distances my hands and fingers feels a bit numbed (not sure of the spelling). i remembered reading about one owner of this bike talking about like he was sitting on a chain saw! if i could only remember who it was. i think it was posted in this topic so i guess i just spend the day long to search for it.
Have you checked your oil level?
Engine oil? I havent opened and looked down in the small whole where you fill the oil if thats what you mean. Bike is brand new but I have put over 1000k on the clock already so going to honda big wing for the first service tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone else had these engine vibrations.

Have you bothered to open the service manual?
And yes, check the oil. The idiot mechanic who prepped my bike hadn't. Not used to working on bikes with oil filters I guess.
Man are you saying you bought a cbr500 and it was low on engine oil from the start? Pls tell me exactly how do you check the oil level without going to the mechanics as I wanna know for sure about this before my first service at honda. Thx for reply

Yes, when I bought my CB500F the oil level was at the minimum level according to the sight glass which is on the right side of your engine. This says to me, the idiot masquerading as a mechanic didn't run the engine after the initial oil fill, whether it was at the factory or the dealer, I don't know, but I assume it was at the factory and the dealer didn't check it properly before releasing the bike.
Did you level the bike when you checked the oil?
When you put it on its stand, then the oil will always be at the minimum level because the bike is leaning to one side.

I don't feel any vibrations, apart from what is normal, if you talk about vibrations, it makes me think of an old VW engine, those things vibrate, the 500 just makes normal motions coming from a working engine.
The sliders on the CBR version are only good if your legs aren't too long. My friend has the ones from RSV fitted and I only have like 2 centimeters left between my knee and the slider. I am only 175 cm tall.
On the 500F they are placed better because they use different holes to screw them in. They are a bit lower and further away from your legs.
Can't use these holes for the CBR because of the fairing blocking them.
And if you want a service at Big Wing, don't forget to make an appointment first.

Certainly, everyone's free to make choices with their own lives... And if those here want to voluntarily engage in an especially dangerous activity that's going to significantly increase their odds, certainly here in Thailand, of getting injured or killed over time, then that's their choice to make.
But I haven't heard one biker here say anything about their wives, GFs, children, relations, etc. How are they going to feel and fare once you've exercised your choice and either get killed or seriously injured, like those poor souls in the news reports that I posted to begin this thread?
Maybe you don't care much about protecting your own lives. But in my opinion, you ought to at least have the decency to act responsibly toward those who love and depend on you.
No one can be guaranteed a long and healthy life. But depending on the choices we make as we go thru life, we certainly can increase, or decrease, our odds. That's the point of my posts here.
Do you, by any chance, sell life insurance?

I will check again when I go there, in CM every single salesman says different thing.
I got this information from the mechanic that prepared my bike when I picked it up.
Jay, good guy and speaks decent English.

How is everybody doing? Sorry for the long absence I was on the holiday and had my hands full. Aftermarket exhausts are great problem is they told me straight away in the BW that fitting one will void my warranty straight away. I can however buy it from them and they will do it which is fine. But they want 40k for Moriwaki and 50K for Mugen which is very expensive. I have get one from Europe nearly half of that. Besides I really want to hear how it sounds first each one before making decision on which one to get.
They told me at Big Wing you only void the warranty of the part you replace. So if you change the exhaust, you only lose the warranty on the exhaust.
You change your brake lever, you only lose the warranty on your original brake lever, and so on and so on...

Are you related to the victim and are now just venting your frustration?

What's funny is that I don't even think it would be possible to pass the test on a real motorcycle. It simply wouldn't fit between the cones!
I did it on a new CBR150 and I thought it would be to big too to fit, but it was perfect because you can go really reallyslow on that bike and it is still very stable.
What is actually funny is that you can do the test on a honda wave and get a license for a hayabusa

On my previous bike I even had the road tax sticker under the seat with the service manual. Police never asked to see it.
When they stop me they only ever asked for my license and they don't even ask for that every time.
I never ask for the infringement because there English is not that good, they can't explain it anyway and just send me on my way without paying.
This is in Samut Prakan, voted most corrupt province in Thailand :-)

I always thought a farang could not do a job a Thai person can do.

I got the sliders from K-speed on my 500 and they look nice once they are on the bike.
That CNC exhaust might be a copy, but it sure sounds sweet.
Head over to their shop, they have a 500 fitted with it.

True Thai style, just mix it up.

Just mention all the safety features your new bike has as opposed to the old or cheaper one.
My gf is always scared I might be in an accident, so tell her the new more expensive bike is safer :-)

An EU license is not valid here. Just go and get it back, pay the fine and get a Thai license, will save you a lot of hassle and you will get the Thai price at all these lovely attractions around the country.

Why don't you guys just buy the bikes you want, instead of nagging about the bikes you don't want in the first place?
Right I forgot, can't afford a big bike on a teacher's salary.
I ride my 500 every day and it is a great bike, no reason to rev the crap out of it.

So there is some good technology in this security system not bad for what a lot offpeoPle pn here call a cheap basic commuter bike I'm a little more impressed by this bike now.
TBH, the first thought that crosses my mind is, well, what did they scrimp on to put that in and still meet the cheap price-point.
Personally I'd prefer a bike with 100% of production cost going into the bike, not a fancy security system.
The N250 looks better with every post about the 500 series to be honest.
Maybe other bikes are just overpriced.

a rev limiter at 9000 rpm is not a performance issue.
my bike performs really well, i am happy with it
why would you need a race bike in bangkok anyway?
-
It is only a heat guard, so your pillion wouldn't burn his/her leg.
-
There is a company named Polaris that makes quads and sells them in Thailand.
-
I think the salesman was happy you left after revving the bike like that on a 30 meter test track.
I got a 500F and I am very happy with it. It is not a race bike or a track bike, it is a working horse.

Bike was introduced at the BKK motor show. No info on price yet. Imported? Not imported?
No Kawasaki Ninja ZX6R (636) at the Bangkok Motorshow....
Saw it today with my own eyes at the motor show.
Another hit and miss from Richard.
Sorry my friend, I had very little time to look around, also I was contracted by a competitor of Kawasaki – and for me to walk onto somebodies exhibition before the public is allowed to take a look is a bit inappropriate.
If I did hurt your feelings with saying that Kawasaki didn't had the ZX6R on display I want to say I'm really sorry.... or you can just grow up...
You didn't hurt my feelings at all, it's just that you seem to make a living out of misinforming people.

@xastunts, is your real name Richard?

Went there today, the Kawa 636 is on display.
No mention of the price though.

Superior, if you are only concerned about the sound, then just change the exhaust.
There are some slip-on exhausts already available for around 8000 baht.
I heard some last weekend and they do sound good.

When I bought the bike at Big Wing they told me I should call to make an appointment for my first service.
This bike has just been released, they have sold hundreds at the same time and they have like 4 or 5 workstations.
The 1000 km service takes about 3 hours because of the valve clearance check.
You think the mechanics there work 24 hour shifts? It is a big bike shop, not a 7 11.
