  1. You jump to conclusions without having the full information. In this week for the dates mentioned it DOES matter for me. I am not doing my first 90 day report by the way. But thanks anyway, your intention to help me counts and is appreciated.
  2. No important documents. I believe my record processing time for a 90 day was below 60 seconds once my queue number was up. All I need is my passport and if they will collect them outside (which would be wise) so even better. Wiil sit down and wait then.
  3. Does anybody know for sure (because has appointment etc.) when Chonburi (Jomtien) Immigration is open during Monday January 31 - Friday February 4 2022 ? Official sites that I tried do not show it and international "Thailand holidays" sites state all kinds of different info and are not reliable. I tried as well searching within the asean now forums. To my surprize again no success. Just need to do a 90 day report (usual processing time within minutes). And no, I will not use the online system. Thanks for any reliable info and happy new Chinese Year
  4. I was an in-patient at a private hospital because of diarrhea caused by a rotavirus. All in all 2.5 days and visits from doctors from every department you can imagine (because I have some ailments but this was not the reason why I needed treatment in the first place). Bill amounted to roughly 90'000.-- (all included, even the salt water infusion, farts were even free). However, this was some years ago and I was a tourist at the time.
  5. They should focus to make it a (even more ?) desirable country for everybody to visit and extend a warm welcome to anybody who wants to stay instead of focusing on whatever new. And there is a lot to do as is summarized above.
  6. I know Paul. I have been one of the first customers of PS Audio in Europe for its P300 (his first power "conditioner" ever (I made a mistake in my previous post, it did not need a converter, but all plugs were American Hospital Grade. EXCELLENT. As far as superb books are concerned you risk maybe a look at "The Complete Guide to High-End Audio" by Robert Harley. With a foreword of Keith Jarrett. Then I had a 600+ page guide - I think it was called Handbook to Acoustics or similar. I did not bring it with me here because I thought it would be of no use for me (since I left my High-End System behind when we did move)
  7. You answer your own question: It is subjective. About "allowed" I am not so sure. Depends on your condo regulations maybe.
  8. That is rather a question of quality than quantity for you would want to eliminate standing waves. This means buy rather two than one but you should not turn them on so much that you could destintictively hear them. Sub-placement is an art, too. Less is more in this regard unless you are at a Thai wedding, monk inititiation etc. You know what I mean. To the OP: Sound isolation means actually building a room in a room. Extremely expensive. And.....I believe as well it depends on the time of the day - there must be room for music lovers to enjoy their high end systems as near to the original recording as possible - and this can become loud. The more I think about it - move to a house if music reproduction really matters for you.
  9. Same on T-advisor. I have now cancelled all reviewing activities. But try it the other way round: You can derive a lot from the comments hotel and restaurant owners give as a feedback to not so good reviews about them. Works well.
  10. Today early afternoon at our favourite restaurant: They had a booth with a sign "SHA+ in progress" and the usual contactless thermometer, a list where one could write down your adress and the info that guests must have a 72h valid ATK test, but we did not see a possibility to test on site. It was not needed anyway. When we asked about this whole procedure they said: "Not yet". We did eat as usual. However it must be noted that we are well known regulars there.
  11. Rumours are that one of my ancestors held a degree in hand-axe design and manufacturing from the institute of the big cave. It developed all from there.
  12. That would be the opposite of subsidisation for the farmers. These Chinese or Thai Chinese owners probably have strong connections to the government but this seems to be a prevalent scheme present in many areas where a lot of money is involved.
  13. So lets make 2 x Som Tam per week mandatory for expats. Makes Thai vendors a bit richer and my stomach more miserable. .....and by the way, why should rice available only in the US and in other places abroad (I had the Kokuho in Switzerland) make Chinese here richer ?
  14. Type 2 diabetes does not exclude the use of insulin if necessary. I am T2 myself and I use a lot of it. But it would need more to make me eat brown rice than health concerns (a Kalashnikov comes to mind). Unfortunately the tasty things in life are rarely healthy. ????
  15. Making (good) sushi by yourself is an art. Difficult. "Sushi" does actually refer to the rice mixture. Even to make this one alone is not easy. As a Sushi apprentice you will dedicate a year or more only to cook rice properly. Then comes the mixture - at Top- shops made even with a secret mixture of different rice vinegars. I prefer nigiri sushi. What you refer to as "ahi" seems to be a more hawaiian term. In Japan, Tuna is generally called "Maguro" and then comes in 3 quality classes as "Akami", "Chutoro" and "Otoro". Real wasabi is hard to find - what you get here is not a pure wasabi root. The real thing is rare and expensive and I have not come across a Japanese Delikatessen Shop here, where you could hope to get some. However, as you say, Japanese Rice is available in Villa, Tops and even in Big C Extra. Tops offers - to my delight - quite a number of other Japanese food as well. The best sushi restaurant in Pattaya in my opinion is the "Ronin". They offer as well all three kinds of quality grades of Tuna, if not sold out and a vast variety of nigiri. I agree with you about fried rice. Best made with longer grain, not sushi rice.
  16. I think that is the problem with all kinds of rice, maybe a bit less with basmati or as you say, black or brown rice, but who wants to eat that. A generous portion of insulin does counteract that.
  17. I live in Pattaya, but we have a family out in the sticks, too. Sometimes I eat rice only with Soy Sauce - but then - it should acutally go well with rat on the stick, too. Tastes a bit like chicken. And with all locally grown up vegis that we have on our land - or can find in the wild if you have nothing else - if this is what you meant. Whatever - Happy New Year to all.
  18. Bingo. One of the rare sensible posts about the subject. Listen to @Pedrogaz if you want to do yourself a favour. We forgot to mention Risotto Rice as well, which is again a special kind. I have always used Aldo in the past. Of course it is not available here.....
  19. I don't know. I do not eat fish sauce if I don't need to (in some dishes it does not stand out as well). But I have asked my wife and she said it does not match too well. So you have a valid point here for some. But I mostly eat Japanese Rice and my wife Jasmine Rice then. One more advantage of Japanese Rice: It does stick together to a certain extend, making it easier to eat with chopsticks. With Basmati (maybe even paraboiled ????) this challenge would probably surpass the difficulties of the deployment of the Webb Telescope or you do it intentionally by picking grain for grain seperately if you are on a diet. My favourite food is Sushi - try to make this with Basmati. Conclusion: Every variety for its purpose. But nevertheless Kokuho Rose is the tastiest rice I know.
  20. Reading some posts here I urgently feel the need to hurry to your gustatory rescue: Not Jasmine Rice, nor Basmati Rice will ever be a match for Japanese Short Grain and you should really try that. And here is (although grown in California) the best I ever had. It is a short-medium grain variety and delicious just by itself as can be. It is not available in any Thai store I know otherwise I would not eat anything else: But as a substitute, you could try imported Japanese Rice as I do. Yes, it is expensive but judge yourself if it is worth the money or not.
  21. This topic is much more controversial and subtle as one would think. Actually the question should be "Is Science used for the benefit of mankind or not ?" For it is the use of knowledge and discoveries which makes it evil or beneficial. And the use is always driven by people themselves. Think nuclear power, or discovery of substances like Botulinomtoxin, the deadliest substance for the human species which may be used for killing millions or for the benefit in medicine. How about Genetic Engineering ? And Artificial Intelligence ? This is a really tricky one if one understands the possible implications. Should we rather avoid exploring the possibilities ? Generally I believe that knowledge is a good thing. But scientific knowledge and inventions alone do not cut it - may even not be beneficial. Science must be complimented by a knowledge of the nature of our existence and derived from that by a deeply felt wish to be of benefit to each other. Then Science is beneficial, too.
  22. Search for "One Guy Changed My Pizza Game Forever" on YouTube (Link not included here since I do not know if I may embed it). In 17 minutes the video shows you how much consideration and details have to go into making one. And then ask yourself if you guess that the pizzerias here do put the same amount of dedication into it - apart from the quality and quantity of ingredients. This might give you an answer why most of the pizzas here are what they are. Believe me: It's 17 minutes well spent. My next two contenders from the recommendations here will be tested within the next 2 weeks.
  23. I do absolutely agree with you. Although I have visited some of the restaurants mentioned in this thread, there was always an aspect of the offered product that was not entirely satisfying. I will try one of your suggestions in Bangkok when I am there. And I will still keep trying in Pattaya until I have finished reviewing all the suggestions from here. Please do not misunderstand me: There are some just acceptable pizzas out there. But there must be SOME perfect Napoli-style pizza somewhere here, too, although I do recognize as well the problems with the ingrediences (and its prices) here. Or do you want to be offered a Quattro Stagioni without Carciofi and not only fractions thereof (if even present ?). Maybe you understand what I mean. Judging from your post I see a chance that you do. The best Pizza I ever had was in Bari, opposite Neaples on the other side of the boot. It was a "simple" Margherita.
  24. @law ling and @The Hammer2021 Thank you both. Today we visited the shop. It is on the right side of the soi if you come from 2nd road. The entry is just opposite Soi Diamond. Parking is possible on the street near the wall of the opposite school. Do not drive too far into the soi, it is quite easy to miss for the shop is not huge. There is a coffee shop just before it on the same side of the road which may serve as an indication when it is time to park. The owner is a friendly man and we could get Ghee, Basmati Rice, fresh Curry Leaves and Naan Bread. To the delight of my wife they have indeed some quite uncommon spices as well. Not the last time we will visit there.
  25. Thank you. Indeed there seems to be - unnoticed by my Thai wife and myself for years - an Indian Sikh temple (Gudwara, Gurdwara, Gurudwara) in this vicinity (hidden in Google Maps but displayed in Google Earth) and near to it is a shop called "Punjab Store" (Old Ravi Store). This seems to be the one ???? Happy cooking everyone.
