  1. Maybe not if she's the one facing the emergency
  2. Not sure if this if "off topic" but here goes - about 15months ago I had a prostate MRI in the UK it showed that I possibly had a small cancer. Last week I had an MRI at the Bangkok Hospital here in Thailand, it showed a possible cancer (80%) with exactly the same dimensions as the first one (which rightly or wrongly gives me some comfort), my PSA which had been rising steadily appears to have stabilised at around 22. Of course, both the UK doctor and the Thai doctor want to do a biopsy. I do not want to have one - my reasons: 1. I'm 79 (today as it happens) whatever a biopsy might show has to be seen in the light of my actuarial life expectancy of 7 years - do I want to go through months of chemo to maybe prolong a inevitably deteriorating life by a few months? 2. Having a biopsy has risks and I do not want to take the risk of jeopardising my current (apart from a loss of cartilage in the right knee - but that's another story) reasonably fit and healthy state. Quality over quantity being my watchword. Of course, I would like to do everything I can within the above parameters to address the prostate issue so the question is, does anyone have any suggestions as to my next course of action? Thanks
  3. Thanks everyone but the project requires that the floodlight is switched by a remote and that side of things works great (PIRs have a habit of switching off if they do not detect movement or body heat), All I need is an indicator in ta visible place that confirms the unit is on or off. I already have a system that lets me know if I have left the lights on in my underbuild (see pic) but I was looking for something a bit less obtrusive and a bit more "technologically" up to date.
  4. Yes good thought but depending on the time it might switch off the unit whilst being used
  5. I have made a small project that has a LED outside floodlight switchable by a remote. I notice that when it loses power and the power is restored the light defaults to on. It's at the back of the house and could remain on for sevearl days before being spotted. The remote switching unit has 2 outputs (I'm only using 1) so assuming both outputs become live under the power on/off senario I would like to use this output to trigger a warning light in a visble place (preferably in the house). I'm not up to date about LEDs so are there any LED indicators (like the ones you see in some switches, with or without associated circuitry) that can receive a 230 volt input, what search term should I use when looking in Lazada?
  6. I have two questions today but will post them as separate threads. 1. Today I recieved an extension socket from Lazada - on testing it with the socket tester it showed that the live and neutral were reversed. I understand that this won't affect the functionality of the device BUT am I right in thinking that when switched off it will switch the neutral instead of the live. In all other respects the lead is exactly what I need, so If so, I will attempt to dismantle it and rewire it. ( I'm not worried about the warranty as I haven't found Thai warranties to be worthwhile).
  7. He must have said that when he was legless
  8. Renewed mine last week at a Government centre - had to wait 10 days to get my proof of address from Immigration (free) and got the medical cert on a routine visit to the hospital. Went to the test centre and did the brake and traffic light test followed by an absolutely riviting video on the various sections of the traffic codes. Relatively painless and now I have it for another 5 years. if I were renewing my UK license (which of course I don't have) a renewal would be for 3 years (over 70).
  9. Just one question for the pro app lobby - where do you keep your passwords?
  10. I have no apps on my phone for anything financial - for example Lazada - access via PC - pay on receipt and email for account. In this age of "big data" you can't escape them collecting and collating your data but to me it seems crazy putting everything on one device in the name of security. So called two factor authentication on one device seems paradoxical to me - two device authetication is more secure ie access your account via a pc/notebook and get the OTP via your phone - surely it is less likely you will lose or have stolen both devices.
  11. "I've never had major connection issues with either and the overseas roaming packages they both offer have worked well". You use the overseas roaming package in Thailand or when you go abroad? Just curious but is there a reason why you use roaming packages and not a VPN if you are talking about use in Thailand?
  12. Thanks but I use this in the UK to make gaskets and the silicone sealant over here doesnt seem to work the same way. Also it will seal leaking fittings - it cures whilst the leak continues
  13. To fernox L-SX
  14. Thanks for reminding me. The 3 pictures show what happened when I was building my house - well when Thai builders were building my house to be exact!
  15. "Can't burn you cake at both ends" Surely should be you can't light your candle and eat it
  16. Welder NO - life support system YES???? Seriously though I've looked on Lazada but I'm not clear about the ratings the suppliers give Does anyone know a reliable Lazada supplier of 1.5mm cable in short lengths I need about 3 meters (I did try to look at buying an extension lead and just cutting the cable out but they are few and far between and very expensive.
  17. I see many Thai extension leads rated at max load 2400 watts and they use 3 core 0.75mm cable. Using my back to school equation: Watts = Volts x Amps I get roughly a maximum value for amps as: 2400/240 (for ease) = 10 amps. My understanding was that the max load for a 0.75 cable was 6 amps. Is my ignorance showing or is there something different in Thailand?
  18. Sure but you can't sit and admire a memory stick (if you can you are a real anorack)????
  19. Added to my last post - the MRI was not 3T
  20. Pass them on to your local Tuk Tuk drivers they use them as reflectors!
  21. Today I had a MRI on my knee, without contrast, at Bangkok Hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima - cost 7,500 Baht plus doctor's fee. They tell me a full knee replacement would be around 320,000 Baht.
  22. Just one final question - the RCBO trip mA is it OK at 20 or should I set it back to 6mA (where its was in the first place)
  23. Thank you Crossy - I bought a socket tester with an RCD trip button - with the switch on nothing happens with the switch off it trips the RCBO. Another interesting thing is I already had a UK socket tester and when I tried that on a socket (with adapter) it showed live and neutral reversed. Being a cautious guy I then bought one over here and it showed correct live and neutral.
  24. UPDATE The RCBO is now functioning but there is one more question (see last paragraph). Another thing I have now noticed is this: The attached picture I took in May this year just before we went to the UK for 5 months. In that picture you can see the little black switch is OFF and the trip value was set to the minimum 6mA. I haven’t changed any of the settings since my return but now I notice the mA was set to 20 and the little black switch was ON. Setting the little black switch to OFF restored the RCBO functionality. A Thai neighbour “took care” of the house whilst we were away and I am wondering if some “tinkering” took place for some reason. I now am happy that the RCBO protection is working (not sure about the MCBs for tripping although all circuits appear to be working). So can anyone tell me, apart from restoring my RCBO fuctionality what exactly does that little black switch on and off - ie if it is ON - what is ON - apparently not the RCBO since switching it OFF restores the RCBO??
  25. Not sure if this is the correct place to post this. Firstly, so sad to hear this news and my wishes for her recovery. I read about it on the BBC - they also said this: "Being one of the king's three children who have formal titles, she is eligible for the throne under a 1924 Palace Law of Succession". My Thai GF hotly disputes that this is true - can anyone clarify?
