  1. That's why its called the hot & dry season.

Anyone who read this post when it just said "%2", please forgive the site.

Winnie, one of the more sensible posts! Not your more sensible posts, THE more sensible posts.

Anyone who wants rain, come in the rainy season.... or am I being naive?

Not not necessarily naive but maybe selfish. Surely you realise that a massive amount of people here in the north, and elsewhere, are involved in farming ,its their living. No rain or rainy season coming later than usual means they can't sow crops or maintain what they have as dams are either low or empty and the ground parched. Maybe you take fresh fruit and veges for granted well having previously farmed I certainly don't and a lot of people are hurting right now.A quick google check will show you how many provinces are in "drought" condition and have been for sometime.

Out east of the city, San Kamphaeng is in drought. I'm surrounded by green fields of rice. Water pumped from ground water. These are small scale farmers, not rich corporations. Plenty of water down below our feet, if you're on the valley floor. Different for the hill folk, but they're probably getting the rain we're not.

  2. Dark skies coming nearer, wind rises, I start my rain dance.....

I'd join you, but I've got 2 left feet sad.png

  3. After Cheers it was run by Dutch Marcel in 1999/ 2000 who previously ran the Inter Cafe (not Inter Bar on Thapae Rd). Later an Irish fella ran it as a restaurant/Irish pub. A strange location, as you couldn't see in as walking by, due to the narrow alley leading to the entrance.

  4. Looking at the thai husgvarna's web site, it says the late Ian Bannerman. I thought I had received an email from him about a year ago. Anyone know how and when he died? It says two westerners bought the business form his widow. Hopefully, it will be run as well as Ian ran it.

Ian's passing was mentioned in the Chiang Rai "remembrance" thread. post #27.

Met him once at his house to buy a mower. Very nice fella,

  5. Was having a bit of a water fight on muang muang today. There were some Thai photographers, possibly from a real newspaper taking photos. I watched a farang fill a bucket and look to throw it at them. I said.. "careful mate hes got an expensive camera". "Who gives a f***" and threw it at the photographer.

This is not the spirit of songran. The guy was a total C*** if i had been bigger and braver and nobody was looking i would have elbowed him in the face.

I just hate these kinds of people... no respect!

The problem is that Thailand is awash with "These kinds of people..."

I'm happy and dry- in the Philippines smile.png

No riff-raff in the Philippines? giggle.gif

  6. Bit of a mixed thread this one Songkran, Israelis and the old bar beer center smile.png

I had some great times in the Bar Beer Center and met both Max of Moon Garden fame and Blinky Bill both for the first time there, two great Chiang Mai Characters who sadly passed away last year.

I'll be out in the city with my kids tomorrow for my one day concession to playing Songkran, I'll enjoy it in the good spirit it deserves, if some idiot backpacker decides to squirt water over me once the sun comes down, they will find themselves in the nearest hospital having their water gun removed from a place where the sun doesn't shineshock1.gif

I'd rather read comments about the old bar beer center than whinging about getting wet at Songkran thumbsup.gif

  7. I hope that it rains - but not enough to knock out the electricity. It is HOT!

You could always stand out in the rain. But watch out for idiots throwing water wink.png
