  1. My 2.2 cruises at below 2000rpm, at 100pkh or more. Acceleration is more than enough. Leaves everybody standing at traffic lights, excellent on hills, overtakes nearly everyone. Not interested in charts. Wouldn't swap it for anything costing the same.

    Couldn't agree more.

Nice boast but I've not met a Dagenham dustbin yet that can get past my 3L auto Vigo at the lights.

Look forward to meeting you at the stop light drags. giggle.gif ..........w00t.gif

Why don't you take one for a test drive? What are you afraid of?

  3. Ask yourself to name a Thai universal invention, a scientist, a writer, a pop star, a song writer, a medical breakthrough; nobel prize winner; a sports star, and the list goes on and on.. We all know which part of the globe that talent comes from.

    Pop Star

Takatan Chonlata, Cream Pimwalay, Gratair, Carabao, GangGeng, Morgan, Pamela Bowden to name just a few.

Whilst I appreciate the effort my point being universally respected. I am not sure anyone outside Thailand has heard of any of these people. however you did your best with the list, now try to do the other categories.

we will influence change but they will never influence the world

How many French pop groups can you name (or Belgium, or Russian or South African?)

Daftpunk are French - I didn't need to google

  4. I saw one about 4 years ago on the road from Chiang Rai to Mae Sai.

I was doing a visa run by bicycle so I had a great view.

It's amazing how much more you notice on a bicycle compared to driving.

btw if I did a visa run on my bicycle, by the time I got home it would be time to start off for another smile.png

  5. Why buy a "branded" desktop? Probably the same components as the locally put together jobbies.

I've had much better reliability out of branded machines. Plus the other benefit of a branded is that you've got an overall warranty on the machine... i think in this life you get what you pay for and it doesn't pay to skimp when buying electronics...

Don't the individual components have warranties? Are warranties provided by the shops that put together desktop packages?
  6. In SVB, there is nowhere to sit, unless you want to order another ruinously expensive doughnut,

It took me four visits before I found a place where I can get a quiet beer (albeit for 100 baht) and not have people constantly offering me hot-dogs and ice-cream from laminated menus on laminated tables.

What about the soft comfy armchairs before you descend to the to the departure gates? Buy a can of beer from the newsagents/bookshop. Sit back & watch the stewardesses parade past thumbsup.gif

  7. A couple of add on things might be of interest to some. The walk from the village to the temple is nice. Near the temple is Chiang Dao Nest (there is another older brach of this place on the left of the road - that do not bad Thai food) this main place does some of the best farang food I have had in Thailand. A very nice and well set up place to spend a night. In the cold months they have some outdoor wood fires for people to sit around. Next door is Malee's. The later is cheaper to stay at and has good Thai food - very nice hosts and a great place if you are into birding. They can arrange bike hire if you don'y have your own wheels. Nearby are some good trail walks. The temple is well worth seeing. The climb to the top is over 400 steps and I found it hard going but made it. The view at the top is worth the climb. The gardens about the climb are very nice and many of the plants have name plaques in English, Thai and Latin. I found the monks to be friendly. The Nest and Malee can also arrange a trip up the mountain which we did - you need a 4 wheel drive to get up. It gets pretty cool up the top - I think similar to Doi Inthanon for temperature.

You got to the top of Doi Chiang Dao in a 4WD? I thought it was only possible by hiking, usually camping just below the summit. Oh well, nothing surprises me here anymore. Thought it was protected nature reserve, closed for several months a year to preserve the nature.

  8. "Wine tasting" sounds like a sophisticated event for sophisticated folk to appreciate some fine wines. "Wine buffet" sounds like a free for all, one would expect to crawl away from. Which one was this supposed to be?

  9. I agree with what AnotherOneAmerican, said. The running track and park at the south west corner of the inner moat is the easiest for a quick picnic. Children like it because it has a small playground. I don't think they allow animals though.
