  1. I've bought a couple in Chiang Mai and they both broke, very cheap tubing used for the chairs. One was purchased in a sporting store in Central Plaza (forget the store name) and the other was actually in a small electronic shop just East of Computer City in Icon Square I believe.

Never had a problem with mine, but then I 'm a slim 70 kg giggle.gif

Or maybe you're the same as my brother, who has a habit of "throwing himself" into chairs laugh.png

Btw, these chairs have got to be the most comfortable outdoor chairs you can buy. Beat the teak garden furniture easily. And come with glass/can/bottle holder in the armrest biggrin.png

  2. I did a lot of searching and as far as I know Raiton is the only ones supplying the aluminum unit in Thailand. Carryboy did list it in their brochure, but when I inquired they told me they are no longer offering it. The owner at Raiton told me that Carryboy were just reselling his unit with the Carryboy name on it anyway.

Your right, 23,000 is not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Had it fitted at the Raiton factory. http://raitonlock.tarad.com/product.detail_670205_th_4646873?lang=en

    The owner speaks English.

Had a carryboy soft-lid fitted on my XLT. 4500 baht. While it was being fitted, I noticed they had aluminium roller tops for Wildtrak in stock, but didn't ask about price.

Really? Are you sure they were for the New Ranger? When the local dealer told me they were not available I of course thought they were bs'ing me. I called directly to the Carryboy factory and they confirmed that they were not supplying this unit in Thailand. I do believe it is still available in other countries such as the Philippines though....strange.

This was mid March. Pretty sure the boxes were marked "T6 Wildtrak". Looked like a new shipment as they were waiting to be put in the back store room. Those roller lids do look good, but I'm happy with my soft-lid, does the job I need it to do.

  3. During certain times of the day the timer shows just a red bar, did you see that, or was the whole thing removed?

Nope, completely removed. Even some wires from the aforementioned timers left on the posts. Specifically San Kamphaeng/Charoen Mueng and Superhighway intersection.

They were there today when I drove through heading south from MAKRO. Countdown is in the "amber" light.

  5. When you can buy a new ipad4 for 15,900 baht is it worth getting some tacky knock off which isn't going to work well for the sake of saving a few thousand ?

Why pay 15,900 when you can get a budget tablet for under 4000 baht that works well. And they're not "tacky knock offs", just budget tablets, running on Android. Specs may be lower than the high end models, but they do the job.

  6. every child I know here in Thailand has spent at least on one occasion 2 or 3 nights at a hospital due to illness. That's 40,000 at a minimum unless you are going to a government hospital.

That must have been a serious illness. 3 nights in a private hospital here in CM for my youngest with blood tests etc for high fever cost 7000 baht. I thought that was excessive.

  7. ":All schools are to be closed from Tuesday 14th to Monday 20th to ease morning traffic congestion"

Is this some kind of freaking joke?

If it's true, then all you Thailand defenders "wake up & smell the coffee". You are living in the third world

Um, I like living in the third world. Most of the reasons why I'm in Thailand are directly or indirectly related to it being third world (for lack of a better term).

    So did I

  8. Arn't emission tests done at annual renewal of registration ? While following songteaws blowing black smoke have often wondered how they ever passed without exchange of a few baht. Maybe they should start talking to the testers too

Seems you have never been present when an 'annual renewal of registration' is carried out. I've had it done on three occasions and it takes ten minutes as the guy checks the frame number against the paperwork, checks the brakes on a rolling road, takes the paper with the numbers into the office and comes out with your bill for 200 Baht. You go back a week later for your 'Tax Disc'-690 Baht and that's it for another year. There are no emission tests, or any other tests where I used to go and I've never hears of anyone having an emission test wherever they have gone.

Anyway; I hope the Police are serious about doing something positive this time and not just putting up posters which solves nothing.

Always had emission test done at the test station I use in saraphi. Always passes. My truck has blown some black smoke on steep hills since new, same as all the other trucks of the same model. But that's not typical driving. I've been ticketed by the cops once at one of their emission check points. The way they rev the truck up at least 3 times for quite a duration to carry out the test, I wouldn't want any truck of mine to be tested again. Doubt it's good for the engine. Leave the checks to those who might know more about what they're doing.

  9. Over 12 months and close to 30,000 km later, still a great drive and at the price back then of 799k baht, a decent investment IMHO. My mate (a legacy Fortuner man) commented on the numerous minor dings and depressions that it has collected and I have to be honest that apart from the eedjit that seriously dinged my back bumper, I am only personally responsible for a couple of others. But there are loads of little dings where a door has been pushed closed with an elbow or the kids were climbing over the sides or where the wife momentarily leaned on the roof to grab a mango (she's only 40 kg)! Even sitting on the folded down tailgate you can see where peoples <deleted> and feet have been. The body skins are like silly putty IMHO and susceptible to deformations from all sorts of low-velocity impacts. I think there's been earlier debate about different grades of steel for domestic and export models and IMHO, the domestic Ranger skin is rubbish in this regard.

But, generally speaking, for the price I paid, it is acceptable. It could be worse and I am glad I didn't hang about and fork out over a million for a top of the line 'ding collector' WT or 4x4 or the 3.2 variants.

I second that on the "dings". Noticed one last week above the rear door handle. How did that get there apart from someone pushing the door shut!!

Time to buy some extra thick cling film? Or a large roll of bubble wrap - now that would turn heads laugh.png

  10. Because I agree with those who suggested that home cooked meals are much healthier.

    This.

Cheaper than supermarkets, and pesticide controlled. I'm buying more and more in quantity, then freeze the stuff. You never quite know what they have though, but that makes it more exciting I suppose. wink.png

    Where's that?

  11. Be careful not to fall in your attempt. Foreigners falling from high-rises hasn't caught on here, yet whistling.gif

It would be also even more mysterious if there was NO Lek, Noi [insert name here] aged 21 who had just popped out to get some sticky rice and found her tilac had accidentally fallen out of the window on her return.

Shouldn't this be on a Pattaya site/forum with the all the other old chestnuts?

I was a little worried the OP might import one of Pattaya's pastimes up north smile.png
