  1. Maps. I just found out that it's still the old images on Google Earth.

I just compared Earth with Maps of our Mu Bahn in Mae Hia and the same cars are parked in the same spots. Guess they haven't got this way or not much change in the area. Wonder if they do cross checks between new and old and update those areas with large development changes?

The area a 100m or so west of Moonmuang Rd doesn't appear to have been updated. Same for the east of the valley, east of Sand Creek Golf club. I would imagine google earth will update soon. Will look tomorrow.

  2. Nothing so dark about it, uptheos.

I want to use it to scare the pigeons off my balcony that sh_t everywhere and make a terrible mess.

Tired of jumping up from my chair and madly clapping my hands, and also tired of stooping over like a washerwoman on my hands and knees with a bucket full of soapy water and a scrubber brush.

No dog issue with me, as there aren't too many bothering me on the 11th floor of my apt bldg.

Couldn't you put some netting up? You can get green netting, doesn't rot in the sun, about 2.5 inch square holes.

  3. I heard you get the 100k realized up front, but if you sell prior to the five year period, you have to pay the 100k back. I really want to see how this one will work. Probably split the cost with the new buyer?

Typical of the Thai government. Do first, think later.

No you do not get 100K up front, you purchase a vehicle (1.5 lt & under) then you lodge all your documentation with the tax officer prior to the 31st Dec 2012. It can then take up to 12 months to get your 100K refund. My wife's niece and nephew both took advantage of scheme and then my wife considered it but she decided against the idea as she was afraid that if it takes 12 months for the refund the government may not still be in power or the government may run out of money. The scheme is only for 1st time car owners also but many people are buying the names of sons, daughters and cousins etc. For a lot of people it is impulse buying and you may find the 2nd hand car market flooded in 12 months when the finance companies and banks come knocking at the doors of those who failed to make repayments.

And BTW it is 'up to 100k'.

A friend spent 8 hours queuing up on Thursday only to discover her new 2.5ltr pickup attracts a rebate of 13k in twelve months time.

Presumably a 2 door pickup. Surely everyone knows the tax on those is very low.

  4. I only buy the beers at the duty free. Pretty sure it's real. Who in the world would go to the trouble of faking Bulgarian stout. Once got Murphy's stout there. Definitely the genuine article. Hoegaarden beer tasted genuine.

  5. Car will arrive on the 23rd or so which is much faster than expected. Hope my Mrs likes the colour (sparkling gold) as she said that gold is old fashioned. Saw an awesome video clip of a sparkling gold xlt on youtube. Not sparkling at all... more a dark dessert colour....I wanted blue at first but she didn't like blue but wanted silver...I didn't like silver blink.png. Hope the colour turns out nicerolleyes.gif

Don't worry Gideon, all the ladies "dig" gold biggrin.png

  6. If you continue straight, its a good road for another 10-15km, but ends up as a 4-wheel drive track (last driven 2 years ago) which google maps suggests goes through, but I found became impassable heading north east.

It used to be drivable all the way through. Gravel road, no need for 4WD. That was a few years ago. What was blocking it? Overgrown, or landslide? There's a great viewpoint from the summit of that bit of the 1230, looking down on Mae On & towards Chiang Mai.

Very heavily rutted, trenches running across the road. Steep uphill on the mud and we had to give up with the bikes and turn back.

Changed a bit since I drove it. sad.png
