  1. I always have enough for a month!

It's a bit of an initial expense, but it's then just a matter of adding a case as needed, and rotating the stock, as it were.

    Why a month?

Earthquakes, floods, decrees, yes, mainly, the decrees, just like this one.

I expect more as time passes.

Perhaps not even being allowed to drink it for a while, never mind buy it!

PS: I left lots of spaces so savvy expats could read between the lines.

I agree, I think the time may be near, where that stockpile might come in handy. Even Mom & Pop stores will probably stop selling, & breweries stop producing sad.png

  2. RIP....

Doesn't state the time clearly - maybe partying - maybe not....Alot of future lost - young souls.....

And probably totally sober coming home from a wat.The families don't need the conjecture of a self righteous farang during their grief.

Where does the report state they were coming home from a wat? btw lot's of temple festivities include lots of alcohol consumption by locals. And, pgrahmm said maybe, maybe not.

AND, I doubt the families will be reading this forum....

  3. Strange how even though it's the 2nd worst country in the world for this sort of senseless death no government ever seems to do anything about it, and the solutions are all obvious.

I An actual driving test instead of the farce in place now

2 Police enforcing the highway code

3 Confiscation of any vehicle being driven dangerously, without insurance or where the driver is drunk

4 Proper vehicle tests yearly like the MOT to keep death traps off the roads

oh and the use of seatbelts might be a good idea, you know those stupid foreign devices

Your No 4. The MOT in the UK is nothing more than a money making thing for the government.

I am not saying that vehicles should be driving around untested, but your vehicle could pass the MOT

one day and fail the next, then it has another 364 days to go before it is due it's next MOT.

Stand at a point by the roadside, pull in every vehicle over three years old, give it an MOT check, and IMO

about 80% of them would fail, and again most of them will still be safe to drive.

silly old me thought the MOT was a cash cow for combined testing centres/mechanics. The 2 should be independent.

  4. Boy o Boy..... Number 2 ranking in highway deaths and with the number of multiple fatality accidents that have happened within the last week of so, it does look like the wacko are trying hard to be number 1....... Taking the princess' talk to the wrong direction.

I think the bus crash in France gave Thailand a wake up call, & made them realize that number 2 spot wasn't set in stone (or concrete) sad.png

  5. Then this old Thai man steps up for the test, the tester points at the colours,

but the man says he cannot see the board, never mind the colours,so he's

lead away by one of the staff, for re-education I thought, along the lines of

Your too old to drive and are half blind,go home. BUT no, half an hour later,

before anyones number is called,I see him be lead into the photo area, and

coming out again with a new license (agents?),I just hope I never meet him on the road,

and little wonder this is the second most dangerous countries for road accidents.

    regards worgeordie

Songteau driver? No problem, drives around the moat straddling the white lines, blocking everybody at 5 kph. No danger to anybody w00t.gif

  6. Driving back from Chiang Rai yesterday it was amazing how much burning was happening, and I only saw them burning the rice stubble. Was expecting great views in Phayao, but could only just make out the mountains from the lake.

Interesting they were burning rice stubble, have they harvested there already or just left over from last harvest?

Harvest has begun SE of Chiang Mai too.

  7. Mt biking in Sangkamphet yesterday and looked extremely "hazey". I didn't smell smoke but felt similar effects afterwards of coughing and poisoning.

Pretty clear besides cloud cover in my hood in Mae Jo but can't see that far in the distance as I did driving out on 1317.

    Any thoughts what's happening?

That area south from Mae On, east of 1317 is ALWAYS smokey early morning. They seem to produce a lot of night smoke there (keep mozzies away from dairy herds?) &, I think the smoke gets trapped against the valley sides. But yesterday's haze was more widespread. I ws on the Samoeng road & visibility was poor in the morning, but cleared by mid afternoon.

May the hype be with you,,,,,,.

  9. At the Expat meeting with Immigration 12 months ago, they presented the actual figures of those residing in Chiang Mai, which staggered me, plus the fact that the numbers living here had doubled in recent years.

The big boss there would have exact numbers.

From the stats page at CM immigration, only going up to the year 2012, there were 304,646 visits to immigration for all categories in 2012. 237,202 were for 90 day reports. 604 for visa conversion. 171 for re-entry permits. Most of the rest for extensions in the various categories.

Year 2011 238,159 in total. Year 2009 there were 72,904 in total for all categories. 2010 only shows partial data.

238,159 visits for 90 day equals 59,300 people doing 90 day We know that there is probably more today in spite of the Thai Visa prophets of doom. But surely there can not be that many doing just 90 days. What are the other 53,500 making them for?

As for the rules changing they are not and every one that says thy are is just talking. They know perfectly good and well that the proof of residence is an on and off again thing depending on the officers mood and that the letter from the bank must match the bank book. I have heard of times wwhen even that was not mandatory.

Keep to the facts people not what you think is stupid even if it is. You change nothing by continually bitching about it. I see no reason for the 90 day and I see no profit in continually complaining about it on Thai Visa.

Burmese labourers make 90 day reports.

btw I'll bitch about what I want. s-t-f-u if you don't like it wink.png

  11. Food courts in supermarkets? Big C, Tesco.....

There not really any supermarkets close to me, the closest one would be the big c supercenter, I never been to that specific one but normally big c have chain restaurants which are kinda expensive and not that much further than the old city so might as well go to the old city instead.

Makro has a food court, too. You do know what food courts are? Cheap 35- 50 bt meals. Might need to order 2, but easy to buy. Just wander around the different stalls & point at what you want.
