  1. I respect the right of cyclists to ride on the roads as long as they do it safely and on the proper parts of the roads.

These cyclists were being reckless. Absolute arrogance and stupidity on the cyclists part by driving on an expressway, but if they had to ride on an expressway then they should have at least been riding much closer to the left-hand side of the lane they were in.

If you ride too far left, some idiot will try to squeeze past where there isn't room.

  2. Who made the video? Was the car with the camera escorting them, protecting them from other vehicles, or just some nosey netizen?

Seems to me to be a "follow car".

    1. I doubt anybody is that crazy/stupid to bicycle on the expressway without a car "blocking" the rear

    2. The car taking the video has doesn't overtake even when there are gaps in the adjacent lane

I think this video was just created/posted to troll

That's my opinion too. I think they were deliberately riding to the right to provoke a response.

When I ride, I keep off main roads as much as possible, but even when riding on the hard shoulder, motorbikes pass within inches, coz they don't want to stray into the left lane, even on empty roads.

  3. It doesn't matter what the vehicle type is, one of the golden rules for highway driving is that one should, at all times, try to match the speed of the cars around you. When we are all travelling at a similar speed, the risk of running into a slower vehicle is much lower. That is why minimum speeds are also enforced in most first-world countries. There is nothing more dangerous than a stationary or slow moving car on a highway.

Yes cycling around Bangkok's busy roads can be suicidal. To lessen the risk I cycle late evenings and on weekends and choose routes that are off the main busy roads if at all possible. But due to the lack of dedicated cycle paths I cannot always do this. There will be times that I am forced to cycle along a busy road, or cross over lanes to make a turn. In what ever situtaion however I know that I never be able to match the speed of the motorised traffic around me.

Late evenings? When all the drunks are driving? Get a trainer & Zwift...

Now, also factor that a cyclist is totally unprotected. In the case of an accident with a car or truck, there is nothing between his body and 10 tons of fast moving metal, except a cycling vest and a plastic helmet. One mistake and you're dead.

It just takes just a second of lost concentration on the part of a truck driver for his vehicle to move a few centimeters into the other lane - and those cyclists are all toast!

Whether or not Thai traffic law permits them to use a highway instead of the frontage road, I'm not 100% sure, but what I am 100% sure of, is that if they valued their lives, they would be as far away from the main highway as possible. Forget about the frontage road even - take the scenic route; enjoy the views and arrive alive.

I am a cyclist and I can spot at least 2 things being done wrong. First the bikers should not be on an expressway. Second they are riding to close to the white line and over it at times when they have all kinds of room towards their left hand side they are definitely crowding the middle lane. I cannot believe so called professional bikers (which I am not) could drive in such a hap hazard manner.

I agree that they were too far to the right. Middle of lane ok. But we still don't know whether the video car was escorting them & shielding them from rear impact. Wide angle dashcam lens will make them appear further from car following them than in reality.

The video might be "set up". They might be messing with traffic by keeping to the right. Just for a few hundred metres.

Or, they just might be idiots....

  6. When I drive up to the entrance to a park in my crappy Ford and there is two BMWs and a Mercedes in front driven by Thais it is a little annoying having to pay ten times more than them. Especially being married to a thai and having two children together. Mostly the thai driving license works but not always...

"Crappy ford"? Have you seen the new Everest? Knocks the spots off the crappy Tuna laugh.png

Interesting the Ford pickups seem to have the drivers with the worst road manners. Perhaps they feel because they are driving crap, their manners should match.biggrin.png

Good to know what you drive. Tad sensitive methinks....

Must be hard being judged because of the way the majority of tuna drivers drive. Have you checked out the new Everest & compared it with the pos Toyota now offer.

  7. Lets stick to reallity.

Hard to work out what reality is in Thailand. Keep getting ripped off if it keeps you happy & smug thumbsup.gif

If I know the price I am paying, I don't consider that being "ripped off" we all have to make choices in life, if you don't like the price, quite simple, don't pay it. ? And although I may be happy I don't consider myself as "smug" just because I have different views about paying a little extra. Kind regards.

Well, you are getting ripped off, and you do come across as smug. Obviously, you think differently, just a people who drive like don't know it.

  8. Not in their original broadcast format they are not.

We don't know what the original formats are so no problem for us.

The many sports I am able to watch, the nature, business, news programs etc. The format suits me/us.

Seems to e fair value for the choice of channels that are available.

As in not edited to uselessness.. If you dont know the difference then not much else can be said.

GMMTV is as good as True was.. And is 5000 a year.. How is True 'fair value' in comparison ??

And thats taking out the customer service nightmare that true can be.. Theft of deposits.. etc etc.. When they were the first cable fiber option here I almost thought about it.. Almost..

Really, with the huge array of media options available (I have one IPTV package with 600 channels for 80 usd a year) only someone who is seriously tech phobic would think True offers value.

Guess I'm tech phobic. No doubt there is a dream that can be applied to relieve the symptoms.

True meets our requirements at an acceptable price. Not a problem for us so not quite sure why it's a problem for others?

We have choices, we simply use them.

I gave up Truevisions as soon as I got broadband. I remember paying a premium price for the Ashes cricket. One day, rain stopped play at around 6pm UK time. So True technicians turned the channel off. A few minutes later, cricket resumed. But not for True customers!!!! I honestly, can't understand why anyone would use their services anymore. You don't have to be a computer wizard to get programs for free, & watch them when you want to. And that's without the self censoring of movies & tv programs. Complete waste of money.....

  9. It's quite simple. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Would Thais like to be charged more for something simply because they are Thais ? Of course not, no one would like this. What Thais never grasp is that they get bad reputations for persistently doing bad things. Cut the silly stuff out and everyone's happy. As I said, beyond their understanding. They want to have their cake and eat it always at someone elses expense. Thainess.

I think the simple answer to this is that as a previous post mentioned that the average daily wage is 300 baht. Does it make any difference to me paying a little more, of course not, does it make a difference to a Thai getting a little more from us, I would hope so. I hope the little extra we pay gives a Thai a better life.

How about if Thaivisa decided that you, not me, should pay to post on Thaivisa? Would you be happy to pay more at 7-11 than locals on minimum (not average) wage?
