  1. First of all; do not convert to CNG/NGV. There are limited refill stations in CM and elsewhere in Thailand. And they always have a long queue out to the road.

It's not the Government that decide, but rather PTT; and I have not seen any new NGV stations for a long time. PTT is actually building LPG stations and some of them even have a 7-11.

I would recommend to convert to LPG and there are refill stations all over (Thailand).

I had all my cars converted at a shop on third ring road.

If you come on Mahidol Rd. on the way to San Kamphaeng; turn right on the third ring road, and the shop is just 500 meter down the road, on the right side.

The last time I checked the price for a "normal" car, it was 27,000 Baht (with a Donut Tank).

Has the price not gone up 30/40% in the last year or so?

And is it going to continue to rise until it costs the same as other fuel? That's what I would be asking....

    Try the "motoring" forum.

You may have missed the boat....

  2. 700 baht for parking all day at the airport .... total $23.00

hmmmm .... try doing that at any other airport like Brisbane or Sydney and it would be a lot more than your $23 .....

    quite cheap really ... coffee1.gif

But we're not in Brisbane or Sydney, are we? coffee1.gifcoffee1.gif

The OP makes no mention of a breakdown ..........................the cop stopped because he was lost and decided to sleep. Seems he picked a bad place to " park up " for a sleep.

And again I say ...............the speeding actress obviously hasnt helped the situation any.

As for your question ..................."is all traffic stopped ?"

Well that depends on the circumstances.

If a vehicle breaks down in a traffic lane ................then quite possibly all traffic IS stopped once emergency services arrive. The vehicle will ( if possible ) be moved to the hard shoulder or a nearby suitable place to be repaired or towed

If there is an accident /collision...............once again when emergency services arrive all traffic is stopped whilst victim recovery/ debris removal is undertaken. If possible diversion of traffic occurs at a preceding exit to the motorway and traffic diverted around the accident scene.

In some countries it a legal requirement to have warning triangle(s) or cone(s) that MUST be placed a reasonable distance behind any broken down vehicle on a motorway.

But back to my original point ...................................

You simply do not stop or park on a motorway unless it is un-avoidable.

Scenario old chap, that cop car COULD have been a broken down cop car waiting for assistance....So we have all got to crash into it eh............Comprendy..

Whatever the reason for being stopped on the hard shoulder, "rule number one" is to wait well clear of the vehicle, in case someone smashes into it.

For sure, in farangland we are taught that, that would have been his mistake, but the thing is she also made a mistake.

Not defending her one tiny bit.

  5. Doppa, Chiang Mai has changed a lot in the 3 yrs you've been gone. Far too many cars now. Uncontrolled development concreting over the countryside. too many westerners, & now the Chinese invasion. Some call it progress. Infrastructure can't keep up. Schools are expanding, but are they getting the right teachers?

I think you got out at the right time.

  6. I am uncertain if I successfully made an appointment.

I completed everything and a brown appointment card appeared on the screen and I hit the print button but the printer failed to work. None of my efforts in the wee small hours could coax it into life.

Is it necessary for my computer to send a signal that the printing was successful for the booking to be successful? Is there any way I can check?

I kept the queue code. Will that be sufficient when I go to the appointment.?

    All help gratefully received.

Go back to the immigration site & find your reservation slot. Hit the print link to the right on the web page. You then enter your queue code & voila you get your reservtion slip to print out.

  7. I love it. A country that drives on the right hand side of the road, and the majority of the Kon Jin tourists can't adapt and make the switch to the left side. Hate to pick on the Chinese tourist, but the majority I come across in CM really do drive, well, interestingly. Not that farang tourists don't drive 'interestingly' too. I come across my fair share. Not too hard to tell the difference between and expat motorcyclist living in CM and a tourist visiting CM on many occasion.

I can actually say I never had a problem adapting to left lane driving, well, until I visited the US an ended driving about a mile on the left side of the road until I came to a stop sign and realized what an idiot I was Lol. Thank God I was in the country and nobody was coming the other way. Whew!

I disagree. On my Big Bike trip from Chiang Rai to Chiang Rai, I was nearly run off the road many times by 4WDs in the wrong lane and not giving a shit for motor bikes. In every case, they had blue numberplates.
