  1. I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Strada manual & a 2012 Ford Ranger 6 speed auto. Both great to drive. I was reluctant to buy the auto, but no regrets. Great response. Drive a lot of mountain roads in both. Can't fault either. I test drove the Mazda BT-50 manual which I guess is the same as the Ranger. Hated it. The 2001 Strada gear shift feels like a car. The Mazda felt like a lorry.

In your Ranger,do you use the 'manual' option while driving in the hills? I find it very useful, specially on the descents...

No. I switch it to "S" mode, & leave in auto. Never had any problems. Seems to downshift automatically. If I was back in the desert, descending steep sand dune slip faces or very steep dirt roads, I would probably resort to manual. The only time I select a gear is on "cold start" in the morning. Have about 200m to drive on bumpy dirt road, driving slowly. If I leave it in Auto, it keeps changing between 1 & 2. so I put it in 2nd until I reach a smooth road. Don't have this problem when I come home & everything warmed up.

  2. Just opened the windows upstairs to let in some cooler air. No chance. Stench of burning outside. Thank you a$$holes. couldn't you have burned earlier in the the day? Or better still, could you have not burned at all?

  3. Been here 7 yrs and this seems to be the worst year ever. Never before have my eyes watered or been red, never before has my wife coughed so much or even me. Before you could always make out Doi Suthep if you looked hard but now you can't. What happened to the law enforcement clamp downs they have been promising for 7 years, things are getting worse not better.

Really? That is contrary to most reports / observations.

Out in the countryside it's been hazy for nearly a month, but I would put this down as a good year. Relatively, though.

IMHO it's cr@p at the moment.

Maybe I guess it comes down to which way the wind is blowing. Out Sansai, Sansainoi way it is hell.

Amazing how it changes around the valley. This morning, out east of San Kamphaeng it was awful. Yesterday, it was bad in the morning, but cleared up in the afternoon. There is a lot of construction going on in this area, very dusty. Also, very smokey at night (can smell it). Often a layer of smoke visible in the morning.

  5. the cheap cost of repairs is not a valid reason why people are asking 150,000 baht for a 20 year old car that has circum navigated the equator half a dozen times

Nowt wrong with asking what people are prepared to pay....

  6. Being a bloke, I might be wrong, but I don't think Thais use tampons, just the pads.

Iam also a bloke but at the canteen at my work they also sell some assorted variety stuff (toilet paper/Soap/Hair shampoo/Vagina cleaning stuff etc etc) as well and amongst all that is tampons so I can only assume some Thai's do use them.

Thank you for the correction. Never met one that does use them, & probably never will, being married & all.

  7. She might have dumped a lot. but I wonder what crawled in?

Bring on Songkran, spread the word, the moat's the only place to be.

My guess it's a Thai woman, have seen loads of Thai guys taking a leak in the moat, first time I've seen a dumpster, most Thai;s do it whilst they're swimming.

Thais far to modest to do that. Have you seen chinese public loos?

    Chinese don't give a sh..... who's watching.

  8. Incidentally, it is the Japanese who got furious with the Chinese (not just about property rights to rocks in the Sea of Japan or the East Sea (take your pick!) but wind-blown air pollution,

The Japanese can't complain about jacksh1t, with all the radiation circulating the Pacific......

  9. Shame about running 2 hrs behind schedule on Saturday. Hardly anyone left for the 2 excellent headliners.

Sunday night was nearly on time, but a smaller crowd. Why didn't they hold it Fri / Sat?

The 2 MCs were a pain in the a$$.

    Great time had, suffering now.

Oh, nearly forgot, the beer was well priced biggrin.png , even though they didn't have my favourites.....

And, I was informed, there were free songteaw back to the city on Saturday night, even though the event finished well late (01.30?)

  10. I think the prolonged cold spell (which led to poor visibility, hazy conditions around New Year) may be delaying the smog season. I hike & mountain bike a lot in the hills surrounding CM & the trees seemed later in losing their leaves this year. So maybe the forest burns will be later. Visibility has been poor for a week now. IMHO we haven't had many crystal clear skies this last cool season. So don't hold your breath. With a late start to the bad smog, hopefully rains will be on time, shortening it.

  11. Loads for sale in SK area. Try here 18.734216,99.112816

If they don't have any, cross the main road & drive along the small road heading east along the canal. Lots of dairy herds. See the manure drying by the side of the road. Large bags 25 baht or less.

Sometimes sell here 18.734216,99.112816 east of where hwy1147 crosses hwy1317

  12. If anyone knows of 10 meter ladders other than bamboo, it would be good to hear from them.

sankimetal dot com Click on Aluminum ware Click on ladders

Ordered my 2x14' sanki ladders from Home Expert on the old San Kamphaeng rd / outer ring road junction. Couldn't find anyone stocking long ladders.

  13. Isaan also kill and eat dogs if youre Thai you will know North and Isaan are diiferent culture. And we don't appreciate shooting birds here.

The moment I see some guy shooting birds I will call a police and make sure you pay for what you did and post your story in pantip.com. Shooting birds is very serious and offensive for many good Thai families.

You should live for a spell in the Isan countryside. Villagers here kill and eat any birds they can get hold of; they are not offended in the slightest.

Not much evidence of birds or wildlife when I hike in the jungle. See a few empty shotgun cartridges...

If I want to see birds, I stay in my garden.

  14. Was down there the other evening, the last time was when it opened.

Really sad sight! A lovely building but almost completely empty!

The only place with people in was Dukes.

Must be sole destroying working there!

Went in ToysRUs and completely empty with full shelves.

The management need to do something very soon!

Ikea is a good idea.... especially if they do their meatballs!
