Australian Arrested at Bangkok Airport Over Pattaya Murder

Police have arrested a 46-year-old Australian man at Suvarnabhumi Airport after he attempted to flee Thailand, in connection with the disappearance and murder of a 17-year-old Thai girl whose body was found on 27 June 2026, inside a suitcase abandoned beside railway tracks in Pattaya.

The suspect, identified publicly by Thai police as Mr. Simon Peter Carman, was detained while attempting to buy a ticket to return to Australia. He has denied any involvement in the killing and maintains he is innocent despite what police describe as strong CCTV evidence. He currently faces a charge of abducting a minor under the age of 18 for indecent purposes.

The arrest followed a joint investigation by Pattaya City Police and Nong Prue Police, who traced the suspect’s movements using CCTV footage collected along his suspected escape route.

According to investigators, the victim, Miss T, 17, from Kalasin province, disappeared after entering a condominium on Jomtien Second Road with Carman at 3.34am on June 25. CCTV footage showed the pair holding hands as they entered the building and went to Room 20 on the 15th floor. Police say the teenager was never seen leaving the condominium alive.

Further CCTV footage recorded at around 9.34pm the same day allegedly showed Carman dragging a large black suitcase from the building. He loaded it onto a Yamaha Aerox motorcycle bearing Prachuap Khiri Khan registration. Police later used CCTV tracking him riding along Sukhumvit Road towards Soi Chaiyapruk 2 and then onto a road running parallel to the railway tracks.

Investigators said the suspect disappeared from CCTV coverage for more than nine minutes before returning to the condominium on the same motorcycle without the suitcase. Police believe the victim’s body was disposed of during that period.

A body concealed inside a black suitcase was later discovered beside railway tracks behind Pattaya Floating Market in Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri. Police from Pattaya and Nong Prue coordinated efforts under senior officers, analysing CCTV footage and other evidence to identify and locate the suspect.

Officers tracked Carman to Suvarnabhumi Airport, where he was arrested before boarding a flight. Authorities are continuing to question him while forensic specialists gather additional evidence to support the case. The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue to examine forensic evidence and complete the case file for legal proceedings.

It has been published many times that it was her 19 year old male friend, as he was with her at the beach at the time of pickup and likely the one who filmed them walking away. He may have called her parents to assist in filing a report, but he was the one 'on the ground' so to speak.

You sure it was a he? I'm surprised if it was, they don't usually have men nearby

That doesn't really have any relation to what I said, but I can understand and agree that the death penalty would be fit here.

You would be right, ID checks are hotels not condos so much.

From page 13 this topic:

It seems many, if not most, hotels and condos in Pattaya have a written policy that Thai late night visitors leave an ID. This is I'll guess largely seen as a nuisance and security just waves them through no ID provided.

But that can be a legitimate legal matter if the Thai person ends up dead.

Security did not wave them through on that occasion. The service was there if the occupant wanted it. He could have approached the security desk and the ID would have been logged. You could see the security guard take note of their entry, deciding to not disturb them. It was the perpetrator's choice to not register her at the desk.

It was definitely a he, as reported via multiple domestic outlets. They sometimes have men nearby. Sometimes even dropping them off. Those calls often come from their friends and boyfriends. They don't want them to stay there beyond a quick service.

There's no doubt. But I think it was a Thai person who posted it. Might have been a photo someone took of his passport somewhere at a hotel. There's not much privacy in Thailand when something like this happens. He was pretty stupid thinking he could get away with it.

Good police work. Locked up then death. Good riddance!

The guy was renting a private condo since several years probably. I've personally never been to a condo like that where they would check your ID, especially if you come in with a resident. Usually, there is some fingerprint recognition or code for the elevator to go up to the actual apartments.

I haven't ever stayed in one of those thousand room impersonal places, so cannot speak for everywhere. But even when I stayed in the centre of Pattaya, no floosie would get past security, day or night.

Under the Thailand Condominium Act, the Juristic Manager or Committee is explicitly required to maintain building safety and peace. While house rules (e.g., security, guest policies) do not need government publication, they must be officially registered as part of the building’s Bylaws (Section 32). https://gam-legalalliance.com/

I guess Pattaya might have different rules because it's not as safe as some other places. In Bangkok or Chiang Mai I've never been asked for idea when entering a condo building.

You aren't asked Obvious working girls are requested. But in huge condos, you can see that might be an issue. Rather than inconveniencing their residents, they have the option of approaching the desk. No doubt the security guard would have logged and held on to the ID if requested. The perpetrator in this case did not desire that service.

I'm sure he picked a condo where he could bring anyone in without an ID being asked. I highly doubt this was his first time bringing a (young) girl over. And I also think it's unlikely for staff to indeed inconvenience their well-known residents to ask their guests to show ID

In this case the security guard was not sleeping, but alert to their entry and even appeared to check the time of entry.

I wrote this page 3:

If the security personnel explicitly bypassed guest verification protocols, ignored strict visitor policies, or let a non-resident in without the resident's authorization, it represents a direct breach of their duty.

So? We don't live in Nazi Germany. In Thailand, they have Greng jai. The service is there for your protection. Either one of them could have walked to the desk if they felt unsafe.

A death is involved. Either they adhered to the actual security protocols, if there were any, or they didn't.

The system isn't good in condos anyway, they don't photograph the ID and they don't check with the resident everything is ok before the girl picks up the ID and goes

That's wide open to dispute, as there is far more compelling evidence stating he is an Aussie.

It's irrelevant, he was raised in Australia, he worked in Australia, his pensions are in Aussie. His whole life has been in Australia and when he tried to do a runner, it was to Australia.

If it walks like a duck................................................. end of!

When I first came to Thailand, the kids were in Pattaya alone at 12/13 years old from upcountry.

We can all find rules and regulations.

Would you like a list of those not followed in Thailand?

Nearly all of them.
