Several robberies, break-ins and a coupla murders of foreigners in the past while.

We always need to keep an eye out for trends.

Also, when in Vietnam....Saigon or Hanoi.. the locals who I'm with often warn me NOT to hold onto or talk on the phone outside, on the street.

Initially this surprised me, given the numbers of "boys in khaki" around, but apparently it's quite a problem.

It does seem like random crime is ticking up here, I attribute it to the declining economy and the level of desperation some people are facing.

No justification whatsoever for the crimes committed but it seems like it's getting harder and harder for a typical Thai to get by these days.

Fortunately this kind of stuff is still fairly rare and seems to be confined to pretty much Pattaya (the petty crime capital of Thailand?), and Phuket.

Let's see if the RTP takes this kind of thing as seriously as they seem to be taking the prosecution of foreigners for very innocent crimes such as bringing a lot of money into the country, buying a beautiful home, and living peacefully, while being law-abiding, paying taxes and showing nothing but respect for the local people.

I understand the prosecution of nominee companies when the businesses are competing with Thais and when somebody is abusing it by buying many properties. But for one affluent expat who buys one nice house, I think going after them is the most pig-headed, ignorant, short-sighted, and non-visionary thing that this incredibly toxic and xenophobic Anutin Administration could possibly be doing right now.

Foreigners are allowed to buy a house and are not persecuted by the government for doing so.

Buying the land on which a house sits is what is illegal. Hence some people follow the 30 year lease route for land and then build their house on it. Others set up a Thai company to own the land and use Thai nominees to hold the shares. The latter route is illegal and the government are rightly investigating the more flagrant breeches of the law in this regard.

The younger generation's reluctance to engage in legal employment is destroyed Thailand's image as a safe tourist destination. The democracy ushered in by the new generation of politicians following the fall of the military government has resulted in a rise in domestic crime across the beautiful country of Thailand.

No you pay then try to claim it back later. Better have all the paperwork from the police and reports or you are screwed. And thats before you pay the Thai police for said reports that you cannot claim for. And of course the expensive medical bill which is bumped up because you are foreign. 🤷🏼
