Police in Rayong are questioning three Chinese men after the body of a Myanmar migrant worker, who had suffered stab wounds, was brought to Wat Map Kha in Nikhom Phatthana district.
The body was found in the rear of a pickup truck, covered with a plastic mat, on 19 September. Police are investigating whether the killing took place at a workers' camp in the Map Kha Phatthana area before the body was moved to the temple.
Body found in pickup truck at temple
Pol Lt Col Thongchai Topimai, an investigating officer at Nikhom Phatthana Police Station, received the report that a body had been left at Wat Map Kha, in Map Kha sub-district, Nikhom Phatthana district, Rayong.
He went to the scene with investigation officers, a doctor from Nikhom Phatthana Hospital and Siam Rayong rescue foundation personnel.
The dead man was identified in the initial report as a Myanmar national working as a migrant labourer. Officers found knife wounds on his body.
Police believe the incident may have occurred at a workers' camp in the Krachet Lang community, Soi 7, Map Kha Phatthana sub-district. The body was then reportedly placed in the back of the pickup and transported to Wat Map Kha.
Three Chinese men held for questioning
Three Chinese men were identified as being involved in bringing the body to the temple. They were accompanied by an interpreter.
After temple staff learned what had happened, they contacted police. Officers then took the three men in for questioning to establish their connection to the death.
Investigators are also examining the workers' camp and tracing the route used to move the body. Police are seeking to establish the cause of the death and identify everyone involved before taking further legal action.
