Tragic case, but it should be a wake‑up call for anyone who thinks coming to Thailand is a free pass to act like a clown.

Actions have consequences, and this is exactly the kind of outcome that happens when people treat nightlife like a playground with no rules.

Pattaya isn’t the Wild West, and that goes for the rest of Thailand too!

If you drink too much alcohol, pick fights, get involved with the wrong crowd, or behave like a fool, then sooner or later reality bites.

Hopefully, this sends a very clear and sobering message to the drunken idiots who still haven’t figured that out.

I wonder if the CCTV footage even survived!

If they were operating without a license illegally and then someone dies why does it require the Chonburi Governor to order the closure. This should be automatic.

Am wondering what role social media is playing in the seeming rise in violence towards foreigners.

I've been watching these affordability crisis clips on Tik Tok, Instagram, U-tube shorts, and I noticed that everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and its become very en vogue to get on these platforms to complain about grocery, housing and affordability issues in order to get clicks and views. Not that there isn't anything to complain about, but social media really does seem to be amplifying the discontent. You click on one of these videos, and next thing you know your social media recommended viewing inbox is jammed full of more of the same.

I'm seeing evidence that it has become similarly en vogue for Thais to post on social media any interactions with foreigners that reflect poorly on foreigners and whether this might be feeding a real world trend which legitimizes and amplifies resentments towards foreigners which in turn leads to more acting out on these resentments and indirectly contributing to a perception that acting out on these resentments is justified and socially acceptable.

Recent examples I can think of were of that Thai guy (possibly falsely) accusing these foreign women of kidnapping his cat, the tuk-tuk driver filming a foreign guy panhandling with a kid in tow, shoplifting and dine and dash stories involving foreigners, not to mention the seemingly daily street and beach skirmishes between Thais and foreigners whether in Pattaya, Phuket or elsewhere.

All I'm saying is that this might be yet another example of how social media is harming society.

Stay not loud, stay low, when things look like they are getting nasty, time to go.

These things do not happen in the women's lingerie department at Harrods.

Let the quality tourists flourish.

If you get drunk in a club like this and start climbing onto the VIP snooker table, you'll probably get beaten up a bit. A couple punches to the face and a few to the body.

The men who beat this guy probably had no intention of killing him. The lesson here is, don't get into street or bar fights. You could be killed or could be charged with murder after it is over.

Eight Arrested Over Chinese Nationals Death in Pattaya Club

Police in Pattaya have arrested eight suspects following the death of a 39-year-old Chinese tourist who was allegedly assaulted inside an unlicensed entertainment venue on South Pattaya Road. The victim, identified as Mr. Chang Hang Yi Cheng, died after suffering serious facial and body injuries during an incident late on 6 May 2026.

The latest update was confirmed on 7 May by Pol Col Anek Sarathongyu, chief of Pattaya City Police Station. Following the initial report, Pol Lt Col Arut Sapanon, deputy chief of investigations, led officers to the scene and launched an operation to identify and detain those involved in the attack.

Investigators detained eight people connected to the incident for questioning at Pattaya City Police Station. The group included one Chinese national, identified as Mr. Chun, aged 38, one Myanmar national named Aqua, aged 23, and six Thai nationals: Ms Buakham, 42, Mr Wachira, 18, Mr Phimphat, 23, Mr Sitthisak, 18, Mr Sorot, 29, and Mr Thanaphat, 43.

Police said the investigation found the violence began after the victim became intoxicated and became involved in an argument inside the club. The dispute escalated into a group assault involving employees of the venue, leading to fatal injuries.

All eight suspects have now been charged with “jointly assaulting another person causing death”. Officers are continuing to gather evidence and review witness statements as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are also investigating the venue itself after officials discovered it may have been operating without a valid licence. Police said legal action will proceed if the entertainment venue is confirmed to have been operating illegally.

The case has drawn significant attention due to concerns over tourist safety and illegal nightlife operations in Pattaya. Further arrests or additional charges have not been ruled out as the investigation continues.

Most westerners don't fight.

Most westerners left that behind about age 16 - 18 as they became adults.

In my experience the subgroup of westerners that continue to get into fights in adulthood are the Whiskey Tangos (white trash).

Normally Chinese stick to their own joints.

The fact that they only "plan to recommend" closure to the "puyai bahn" should answer your question. It's impossible to believe that someone in authority did not allow the illegal venue to trade.

Even after the arrests, the police haven't confirmed if the business was operating illegally.

It's not a reason to be beaten to death and I don't believe that that's what he intended with his reply. But being drunk can cause some people to act ridiculous, and to cross the line, and to cause offense, or show disrespect, and that very well may have been what happened here.
