Chinese overstayer held in Bangkok hotel drug raid

Bangkok police have arrested a Chinese man accused of overstaying his visa and a Thai woman after more than 40 grams of crystal methamphetamine was allegedly found in a hotel room in Din Daeng.

Suthisan Police Station officers searched the sixth-floor room at a hotel in the Inthamara area, after receiving a tip-off that a group of foreigners regularly gathered there to use drugs.

The Chinese suspect was identified only as Lin, 30, while the Thai woman was named only as Fah, 27. Both were taken to Suthisan Police Station for prosecution along with the drugs police said they seized.

Police searched room after tip-off

Officers said they saw Lin acting suspiciously in the hotel lobby when they arrived. They identified themselves through an interpreter and showed Office of the Narcotics Control Board credentials before Lin agreed to a search of his room.

Inside, police found Fah, together with bags and tubes containing crystal meth scattered over a dressing table and sofa chair.

The drugs weighed more than 40 grams in total, according to investigators. Digital scales and small plastic bags, said to have been used to divide drugs for sale, were also recovered.

Visa overstay found during checks

A passport check found Lin had overstayed his visa, police said. Urine tests for both suspects were positive for methamphetamine. Under Thai law, methamphetamine is classified as a Category 1 narcotic.

Lin and Fah were charged with joint possession of a Category 1 narcotic and drug use. Lin also faces charges of illegal entry and overstaying in the kingdom.
