Foreign man sought after Bangla Road assault

A Thai woman has filed a police report after a foreign man was filmed grabbing her by the throat and throwing her to the ground in Bangla Road, Patong, Phuket.

The incident took place on 18 July in Bangla Soi, Patong subdistrict, Kathu district. Footage was published on 20 July by the Facebook page Rueang Jing Tid Jor, or "Real Stories on Screen".

The video appears to show the man restraining the woman by the neck before throwing her onto the ground. He then allegedly attempted to continue the attack, leaving her injured, according to the post.

Friends of the woman intervened after witnessing the incident and separated the pair as onlookers reacted in shock.

CCTV clears woman of theft allegation

The Facebook post said the woman had been accused of stealing a bag by a Thai woman who was travelling with the foreign man.

However, CCTV footage was later checked and showed that the injured woman was not responsible for the alleged theft, the page said.

The victim has already reported the matter to police. The person who shared the footage said there were concerns the foreign man might leave Thailand before he can be found, and asked members of the public to provide information if they recognise him from the video.

Local residents have also called for help in publicising the case, seeking a swift effort to locate the man and proceed under the law.

Calls for a fair investigation

The footage has prompted widespread online criticism, with commenters urging authorities to quickly trace the man while establishing the facts fairly for everyone involved.

No identity or nationality for the foreign man was given in the post, and no police statement on the investigation was included in the information released.

You can't assault people based on beliefs. No proof of stealing and wrong person.

Perhaps he tried to apprehend her and rightly, she tried to resist. Turned into a bit of a mess. In the light of day he should apologise and perhaps try to recompense. But to paint this as some crazy guy assaulting women is a bit of a stretch.

ok, got it. I couldnlt get my head around that I was observing an oversized low-iq baby adult. A danger to society. Then again, what a f"ing mess.

I'm sure if you lost your phone and wallet and someone showed you the person who did it, that you would simply call the police and let them walk away, as you are obviously a candidate for MENSA.

It was just an unfortunate situation.

Just crazies talking about custodial sentences and the like.

A meaningful apology and some form of recompense should be enough.

There are certainly a lot of bad actors in Thailand these days.

There is never a reason for a man to assault a woman, never, ever, ever unless it's self-defense.

It was self-defence, if you view the latter part of the video. It seems all just an unfortunate mistake.

What makes him a pathetic coward? How should he have behaved towards someone whom he thought stole his belongings?

Are you for real?

Maybe try not to attack or choke someone out you "thought" did something for one. Even if you know for sure you call the cops to sort it out for two. You don't lay hands on someone who isn't threatening you or laying hands on you for three.

His partner told him the other woman did it. So it wasn't just his thought. Thank you for trying out.

Thai police need to take this dirt bag when found, into the Back Room and find out what his problem is with Thai women.

No need for that as the OP clearly explains why, being given false information, made him angry, resulting in his attacking that woman. Where was it reported that he "has a problem with Thai women"?

Another psycho in Thailand. Very big and strong man! Can attack a woman! Probably angry because big man has small thing.

Odd how the usual suspects so frequently seem to have men's genitals at the forefront of their mind.

Punishment - one week in Muay Thai ring. Thai fighters enjoy straighting out foreigners. It's fair he receives a similar reaction from a more capable person, right?

Sometimes actions like that cross the line and leaves an incredibly long road of redemption ahead.

Perhaps the Thai woman accompanying him should be the one subject to the punishment also, she's the one who started it all with a false allegation.

A beating sometimes does come out of a clear blue sky to contradict Bill Burr; and who better to deliver that beating than a man with sleeve tattoos? Tattoos go with antisocial behaviour like butter on bread. Middle aged men who wear baseball caps to hide their male pattern baldness are a sad lot. Those hats should come with the little helicopter blade on top to match the ridiculousness of the attire.

I won't judge the guy because I haven't seen the full video.

Is there a full video ?

Guy could have thrown her onto the ground because she was becoming aggressive towards him, seen it time and time again.

If she wasn't aggressive towards him, then he needs to be sorted, because putting your hands on a woman of any kind isn't tolerated, but if she's a skitszoid and has a go, then she gets what's called equality in my world.

My X was a skitzoid and when she slapped me, I would slap her back, didn't stop her from throwing glass ashtrays and the like at me, and eye for an eye I say, not turn the other cheek, give as good as you receive LoL

It seems to be one of several very common fantasies that people resort to in order to feel better about themselves , anybody behaving violently just has to be under endowed, and anybody getting sent to prison will be anally raped. and for the ladies (and their white knights) any bloke daring to criticise a woman just has to have been "hurt" by one in the past , and the rest of us are only here because we are not good enough to get ourselves a western woman

I wasn't , they were doing him a favour that he didn't deserve. I would have been a lot more pleased to see all the womans bar girl mates get together attack him with their stilettos , prior to him being placed in the back of the police pick up ( ideally with a sign around his neck stating his crime) and driven in full shameful public view to the police station for processing.

When things get that far, you leave, so no one's hurt. Trading blows with a woman doesn't make a man a better man but less. restraint wins every time. Unless you are preventing another from being harmed, especially a child, where even then you can push a woman away and leave. If it's someone like Ronda Rousey you might have some trouble, but a women like that usually isn't going to pick fights in this manner. My ex was a violent hitter, and I never hit her back, as that makes you the bad guy. I just left. Watching that video, what we do see is manhandling where it wasn't necessary, even if she did steal something, which wasn't the case.

I'm surprised we survived so many posts before Pattaya got a mention. I thought it would be a top ten certainty. I suppose we should be thankful for small mercies, still no mention of Brits.

Regardless of whether or not this was a misunderstanding shoving a woman to the ground is inexcusable under nearly any circumstance.

There's a moral to be learned from this story and that is stay away from Bangla Road, it has very very little to offer. 10 or 15 years ago you could go there and find a lot of gorgeous women to stare at. Now?

Maybe a few in the top Go-Go bars but that is about it, it's a pretty pathetic and forlorn shadow of its former self.

Throwing glass ashtrays at ones wife or girlfriend is not acceptable behaviour whatever provocation one has received same goes for throwing a woman to the ground in the way that he did,

Whether she was aggressive or not there is no excuse for his behaviour

There is no report of her being a "skitszoid" she was wrongly accused and attacked by the fat ginger lump ,

Clearly this has gone way beyond an apology , he should do time for this , 12 months minimum, its time for a zero tolerance approach to policing

Phuket once the jewel of the Andaman, an archetypal tropical paradise , and now look at it , its reputation in tatters, just a cess pit catering to the world's detritus . which is fine just as long as everybody knows what to expect along with the sand and the sea

its easy to call it just "manhandling" but that does not do it justice , it was a violent attack by a big bloke on a very small woman , an offence has clearly been committed whether she stole a bag or not is irrelevant

A fair few people hiding behind their keyboards here, throwing out judgements like confetti 😊

What if he simply held on to her, she started fighting and he wrestled her to the ground?

Shocking, though perhaps par for the course to see all of these 'holier than thou' contributions.

True, manhandling turned more violent. Like I mentioned, stealing gives no one reason to do this to a woman. It's the police's deal to serve justice.Everyone gets angry when things are taken from them. Going overboard shows lack of character and restraint.

Was this guy making a citizen's arrest, and did he use unnecessary force?

A lot has already been said about this story. But I think it's worth considering what might now happen given that the women has reported the matter to police.

What follows is Information I obtained from the Web. It advises that citizens' arrest is legal in Thailand, but it is strictly regulated.

Under the Thai Criminal Procedure Code, private citizens are permitted to arrest someone, but only under specific circumstances and without the use of excessive force.

Private citizens are legally authorized to detain an individual under Section 79 of the Thai Criminal Procedure Code.

This allows citizens to act as the arresting party when a "flagrant offense" (a crime caught in the act or immediately after) is committed in their presence, or when the suspect is attempting to flee.

The crime must be a flagrant offense: The offense must be caught in the act or have just been committed with clear evidence, weapons, or witnesses.

The arrest can only be executed to prevent the suspect from escaping or to hand them over to the authorities.

If the offense is minor (usually punishable by a fine only) and the suspect refuses to provide their name or address, an arrest may be permissible until their identity is established.

If you make a citizens' arrest, Thai law requires that the suspect be handed over to a police officer or brought to the nearest police station immediately.

You must not hold the person indefinitely or take the law into your own hands.

Attempting a citizens' arrest comes with serious legal risks if the procedure is not followed perfectly.

If you use unnecessary force, or if the initial arrest does not meet the strict legal criteria of a flagrant offense, you can face criminal charges for unlawful confinement, assault, or kidnapping.

The detained individual can sue for damages if their rights are violated during an improper detention.

So he would be a smaller man, with a bigger dick and a brain, and well-behaved, if they had stamped him in for only 30 days, or required a visa.

A course in formal logic would help avoid these non sequiturs, or is there somebody else with little brain activity?
