This probably has nothing to do with it, but programming jobs are being taken by AI by the thousands. Not sure how old he was.

He was 59 and what you wrote was my first thought as well.

It could be that he had been told that his work was no longer required because it could now be carried out by AI. If so I fear he could be the first of many. RIP.

He seemed to want privacy in his death. Not funny.

Should I be faced with end of life challenges, my thinking is the same as regards deciding how to end my life.

To be replaced with a machine after a lifetime of perfecting one's programming/engineering skills, cannot be a happy thing.

However, perhaps, he finally admitted to himself that the robot is a better and much faster programmer than he.

Also, downsizing is very difficult to contemplate.

If he had kids, then we was probably on his second or third marriage, and starting over.

It seems, according to the story, that he correctly chose the "Maid's Day Off".

One other important clue: If we examine the window, behind the nitrogen gas tank, we see a VERY SAD patched up window, using old packing tape.

This house, no matter how large, was probably old and falling apart, and also pretty barren.

These houses are poorly constructed, and very cold feeling, with the empty boxes of concrete.

Very depressing, all in all.

The only thing that shocking to me is that this German man didn't live in Hua Hin. 🤔

I thought it was very difficult to fire someone in Germany they literally have to catch you stealing pencils.

Maybe they caught him with a mouse mover (if you work remotely you know what this is) although these might be obsolete now that their employee monitoring programs are looking for this very thing.

Programmergs get paid well.

If he's been working as a programmer many years and is 59, he has more savings than most other people. He could have retired a long time ago.

I’m sad he decided to do this, for whatever reason.

I do wonder how/why the gas cylinder of N2 got into the house. It’s not something I have just lying around. It must have been a deliberate decision to buy it for this purpose? I don’t even know where I would go to buy such a thing. I suppose I could google a source if I needed to.

So very obviously, this had been considered or planned weeks in advance.

This requires planning in order to be successful, and in order to plan not to be discovered.

He had to wait for the Maid's day off, for example.

This is weird because he probably was not ill to the point of imminent death.

So, this is due to either AI takeover of programming jobs, even up to very high level programming, or....

Somehow, he had not saved sufficient money, and was in financial difficulty,

And the realization that, at his age,he would not easily find replacement employment anywhere near as good as he had had.

And yes, it is sad.

Especially, if this is due to any AI replacement scenario.

Sometimes, people just get into a situation where there is repetitive setbacks.

Or, maybe recently, he had begun reading too much Schopenhauer.

Way too early for some of you to start blaming AI and job loss. We don't know.

What causes someone to kill themselves is mental illness. We don't know how long he may have been depressed and/or contemplating "checking out".

The article pointed out that he was almost a recluse, so his mental stability is unknown.

its a clear case of committed suicide but the final conclusion is Royal Thai Police Department.

Who knows his state of mind and reasoning but should I ever get to the place where I would contemplate that I'd toss up between a massive illicit drug (never tried TBH) binge, or for the gentler approach, a hose from my car exhaust into the interior and a most likely quicker result
