Israeli mother and daughter attacked on Koh Pha Ngan

An Israeli mother, 62, and her 23-year-old daughter were seriously injured in an alleged assault on Koh Pha Ngan after a man asked where they were from and was told they were Israeli.

The suspect, who holds a French passport, was later arrested after allegedly becoming involved in another violent incident. The women said they believe the attack was connected to a discussion about the war in Gaza.

Attack followed question about Israel

The mother had travelled to Thailand for a two-week visit while her daughter was already travelling in the country. They rode a motorcycle to a waterfall on Koh Pha Ngan and parked near the road before walking about 100 metres towards the site.

They were buying a coconut when a man on a motorcycle stopped behind them and began talking to them, the mother told Ynet from her hospital bed.

"He asked my daughter where we were from, and she said Israel," she said. The man then challenged them over the war in Gaza, telling them: "I don't like what Israel is doing there."

The mother said she told him they were on holiday and did not want to discuss the issue. He replied, "I'm against violence," before the exchange ended.

Moments later, she said, the man called to them from above, came down towards them and attacked. "Out of nowhere, he started beating me viciously and bit my ear," she said.

Her daughter tried to protect her and was also beaten. The mother said she was struck on the head and apparently lost consciousness.

Both women needed surgery

The daughter ran towards the road to get help and called out to two French women. The suspect chased her, according to the mother, but fled on his motorcycle when he saw other people nearby.

Police and an ambulance were called, and the women were taken to a hospital on Koh Pha Ngan. Medical staff decided both required surgery after a CT scan found bleeding in the mother's head, prompting their transfer by boat to a hospital on Koh Samui.

Their conditions were initially described as serious but later stabilised. The mother spent 24 hours in intensive care, while her daughter underwent surgery on her nose. The mother had surgery on her ear and said she may need another operation.

Arrest linked to separate incident

The mother said police later told them the suspect had gone to another town, caused a disturbance and attacked police officers. Officers did not initially know he was connected to the assault on the two women.

After police spoke with the women and the daughter gave a statement, they recalled the suspect's name. Police then identified him as the same man allegedly involved in their case, the mother said.

She said she had considered Thailand welcoming towards Israelis and had not expected such an attack. "We will learn not to say we are from Israel, because you can never know how someone will react," she said.

Sad but true. When asked where you are from, tell them you are a child of the world. If they continue to press for a more specific answer, tell them the truth that you had lied. Your are really from Mars.

This is a situation that's known as blowback and there are multiple ramifications for an extremist government conducting genocide against its neighbors and trying to wipe out the entire Palestinian population. Multiple Israeli officials have been on record as saying that's what they're attempting to do. So when an Israeli citizen travels around the world they have to expect flack from people who disagree with extremist policy.

Having said that a verbal argument is one thing, attacking a woman and her daughter is something entirely different and something like that is never Justified unless you're protecting yourself.

I get blowback from people for being American, and I quickly remind them that I despise Trump, I think he's a blight on America, and a street garbage creep, and I disagree with virtually all his policies. Once I say that people tend to relax and nod in agreement.

Fascinating how many thumbs down this statement attracted, and yet how many of those very people are willing to discuss the situation in Gaza and label what Israel is doing as genocide? Looks like utter denial to me.

Then why don’t you just stay in your home country and hold yourself accountable for all the shenanigans that your country has done.

Iran's regime, not Iran's citizens. This wasn't just because of a possible nuclear weapon program but because of how they were using terrorism for decades, and killing their own citizens by the thousands.

Ok, so what you are saying is that Iran’s regime needed taking down.

So how is that going?

From what I read, wiping out the top echelon has resulted in even more hardline, freshly embittered, less experienced, more extremist people rising to the top and perpetuating the regime.

Or is that incorrect?

I know full well what the US has done since I was born, and some of it was and is wrong, but we can't put the blame on all citizens for the actions of voted in politicians as they promise everything and only come through on some, and sometimes do more damage than good.

There's no way of telling what others think without knowing them personally, and even if some think Trump has many backers, he's lost many also and there are millions who didn't want him in in the first place, although we didn't have a good other choice in candidates.

All politicians do stupid things, so we vote in new ones (if possible) and hope they fix the damage done by the previous ones.

Iran needed a taking down, no matter what anyone thinks, and going overboard sometimes happens in wars. How to fix the damage, along with making sure the regime doesn't keep doing what it's done for decades, isn't an easy thing, as money is involved, along with world trade, having Iran's citizens have peaceful protests without fear of death, and Israel has their own thinking, and we can't control their leaders decisions. Neither can their own citizens.

If you buy the standard official narrative then you will likely believe that this was about nuclear weapons. It very much reminds me of the bogus claim that the Iraq war being about WMDs.

It was more than likely about BRICS, and the fact that Iran was trying to encourage its neighbors to move away from trading oil in dollars.

Believe any official American narrative at your own peril. Especially when the Goon and his minions are involved.

Well, they have little military to speak of, and no chance of hurting anyone besides their own neighbors, which would hurt them even more. Yes, sometimes those who take over are worse than the previous ones, but they also become targets.

I see things when they're finished as always, which is why I never take sides but still support my country.

I am holding myself accountable for all the tragic decisions that my country has made, but I'm not quite sure why that means I need to stay in my country according to your logic.

It's the vast majority of Trump supporters that refuse to hold themselves, accountable for Trump's tragic errors.

True. It is just a magnet for the mentally deranged, as we can infer from the attacker in this case.

Though this does not justify the violence that this man perpetrated, there is a lot of anti-Israeli sentiment on Phangan right now as they are virtually taking over the island. I hear this first hand from friends who are living there.

Not my logic as it’s the logic that you presented when you complained about a bunch of thumbs down on a post advocating for Israelis to go back and stay in their country.

It’s been over 2 and a half years. Israel has killed hundreds of thousands of Gazans

Starting off with a blatant lie. The death toll in Gaza is around 70,000 - not hundreds of thousands. As for the rest of the article it's literally deranged. There are countless videos documenting the massacre recorded and broadcast live by the perpetrators themselves. Even if there were some friendly fire incidents they account for a small percentage of the 1000+ murdered by Hamas that day. Just more racist propaganda.

Israel has not been convicted of war crimes. Nor has any credible evidence been suggested that would pass the 'beyond reasonable doubt' test, let alone the dolus specialis standard for inferring genocidal intent - something those alleging genocide have never heard of. Defending one's country is not a war crime and "eye for an eye" is not the standard for determining proportionality in the laws of armed conflict. Claiming to the contrary is bigotry: one standard for Israel and another standard for the rest of the world.

Attacked by Hamas actually.

Some kind of retaliation clearly was justified. The reality of what has transpired is not proportionate, nor is it sufficiently targeted at those who perpetrated the massacre on 7th October.

The civilian population of Gaza neither participated in the attack, nor deserve to be treated as they have been by the Israelis.

Your opinion, fair enough. I don't agree.

How how much would you like to bet that the majority of the thumbs downs had nothing to do with going back to your home country, and had everything to do with the mention of MAGA supporting Israeli defenders?

So you hate your country and when you tell people who hate it too that you share their hatred they like you better. Bravo. Israel does have a few blatantly racist members in government - true - but they represent a very small percentage of the population. The grand majority of Israelis do not support genocide nor has Israel ever attempted one - Gaza has over 2 million people, the death toll over almost 3 years is 70,000. A lot - but not a genocide.

It's only fitting that Israel will likely get a new government this coming October after the elections. The current government is unlikely to get re-elected.

Israel was brutally attacked by Palestinians Hamas on 7 October 2023 when men, women, children and infants were cruelly murdered. The ongoing payback is fully justified, if it targets only Hamas members and doesnt use it as a pretext to genocide.

The attackers were Palestinians.
