Israeli mother and daughter attacked on Koh Pha Ngan

An Israeli mother, 62, and her 23-year-old daughter were seriously injured in an alleged assault on Koh Pha Ngan after a man asked where they were from and was told they were Israeli.

The suspect, who holds a French passport, was later arrested after allegedly becoming involved in another violent incident. The women said they believe the attack was connected to a discussion about the war in Gaza.

Attack followed question about Israel

The mother had travelled to Thailand for a two-week visit while her daughter was already travelling in the country. They rode a motorcycle to a waterfall on Koh Pha Ngan and parked near the road before walking about 100 metres towards the site.

They were buying a coconut when a man on a motorcycle stopped behind them and began talking to them, the mother told Ynet from her hospital bed.

"He asked my daughter where we were from, and she said Israel," she said. The man then challenged them over the war in Gaza, telling them: "I don't like what Israel is doing there."

The mother said she told him they were on holiday and did not want to discuss the issue. He replied, "I'm against violence," before the exchange ended.

Moments later, she said, the man called to them from above, came down towards them and attacked. "Out of nowhere, he started beating me viciously and bit my ear," she said.

Her daughter tried to protect her and was also beaten. The mother said she was struck on the head and apparently lost consciousness.

Both women needed surgery

The daughter ran towards the road to get help and called out to two French women. The suspect chased her, according to the mother, but fled on his motorcycle when he saw other people nearby.

Police and an ambulance were called, and the women were taken to a hospital on Koh Pha Ngan. Medical staff decided both required surgery after a CT scan found bleeding in the mother's head, prompting their transfer by boat to a hospital on Koh Samui.

Their conditions were initially described as serious but later stabilised. The mother spent 24 hours in intensive care, while her daughter underwent surgery on her nose. The mother had surgery on her ear and said she may need another operation.

Arrest linked to separate incident

The mother said police later told them the suspect had gone to another town, caused a disturbance and attacked police officers. Officers did not initially know he was connected to the assault on the two women.

After police spoke with the women and the daughter gave a statement, they recalled the suspect's name. Police then identified him as the same man allegedly involved in their case, the mother said.

She said she had considered Thailand welcoming towards Israelis and had not expected such an attack. "We will learn not to say we are from Israel, because you can never know how someone will react," she said.

15 countries only. Should be ALL.

Not because of racism as you try to insinuate but to put pressure on the regime to change their policy towards their neighbors.

You seem to have made your mind up....... but I doubt we would be in this shameful mess if not for the Hamas brutal attacks in October 2023. In this topic, the victim is Israeli.

Yes, you're right. Israelis are racists for sure. That's why they are to ban to enter Thailand at least. For racism there is no place

Rather a childish reply.... the Palestinians have a lot of hate in them too.

See, Jacko, you’ve actually got nine left-wing comments; apparently there are a lot of people in LOS who love Palestinians.

The two of us certainly aren’t among them, that much is clear.

I knew a lot of them when I worked in the Middle East, i feel very sad for them.

Attacked by Hamas actually.

Some kind of retaliation clearly was justified. The reality of what has transpired is not proportionate, nor is it sufficiently targeted at those who perpetrated the massacre on 7th October.

The civilian population of Gaza neither participated in the attack, nor deserve to be treated as they have been by the Israelis.

Wrong, many ordinary Palestinians, (it's well documented) have also took part in the raping, beheading, looting and killing and kidnaping of babies, women and children, funny how the truth gets bent and distorted when you hate someone and something you know nothing of other than reading racist, and anti-Semite articles.

One thing is very apparent in these pages and the quality of its contributors, how filled with glee many here get of any chance to show their hate, loathing and anti-Semite tendencies each time something happened to an Israeli or a jew, look at the 6 pages here, full of abhorrence, disgust and revulsion when you mention an Israeli or a jew.

Israel - included this "victim" wouldn't be attacked if they would live peaceful with their neighbours. Oppressing and bombing your neighbours will not guarantee any kind of peace.

Perhaps you could help me out and point me toward sources where ordinary Palestinians, not members of terrorist organizations like Hamas, participate in raping, beheading, killing children, looting and kidnapping as part of their daily routine or indeed as part of the terrible massacre perpetrated by Hamas against Israel.

Credible sources please, not conspiracy theorists.

As far as Israel's long term survival, Hamas is still there. Hezbollah is still there. The Houthis are still there. There has been no regime change in Iran. No doubt the military capacity of all the afore mentioned has been degraded, but they can and will will rebuild, so the threat to Israel's long term survival is still there.

Many Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis have been killed already.

The war isn't over yet , the rest of Hamas and Hezbollah are scheduled to die in the near future .

Their card has been marked

You can not kill an ideology.

Of the children the IDF have not killed, and there has been around 22,000 dead children to date, the surviving children will grow up with the same hate, if not more, and the fight will continue.

Netanyahu will run out of political time, so will Trump, and this will be shown in the next elections, but Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis and Iranian regime will still be there.

Hamas claims ~72,000 deaths in Gaza. Of those, roughly 30,000 were terrorists, and the total includes natural deaths. Urban warfare expert John Spencer notes Israel has achieved far lower civilian-to-combatant ratios approx 1:1 than the typical 1:9 in urban fighting.

Hamas hides in tunnels, wears no uniforms, and uses civilians as shields. Many of its own rockets have killed Palestinians — including the “hospital strike” initially blamed on Israel by the BBC and others, which was actually a Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket that hit a car park and killed about ten people.

Israel has dropped millions of leaflets, made millions of calls and texts, and issued maps of safe routes before strikes. No other military matches this. If genocide were the goal, Gaza’s 2.1 million people could have been wiped out in an afternoon.

Israel also coordinated with the WHO and UNICEF for humanitarian pauses so over a million polio vaccines could reach Gazan children — the first cases in 25 years.

Yahya Sinwar was willing to see Gaza destroyed to advance Hamas’s goal of eliminating Israel, calculating that higher Palestinian deaths would turn the world against the Jewish state.

You can hate Israel and Jews but the facts remain: a country of 9 million (including 2 million Arab citizens plus other minorities) facing a movement whose charter calls for its destruction.

So anyone that says Israel's actions were wrong, what would you do if your country was attacked by 3000 terrorists and 2500 civilians where 1200 people were murdered, raped, mutilated, tortured, burnt alive and 251 were kidnapped back into Gaza?

AI quotes 7k Hamas, not 30k even if 23k just dropped dead! Do you really believe Israel waged 'urban combat'. Naw, they just blew the place up until there was no place to hide, for civilians who were targets or Hamas militants.

"Safe routes" 5555. That makes civilians sitting ducks just as the food and water lines. Perhaps that was even their intent. "Wiping out" an entirepopulation would be the end of Israel.

NOBODY condones Oct 7, not Hamas & Hezbollah--get real! If you think 1,200 people warrant the destruction of a country, you're an extremist apologist.

Unlike the US, Israel doesn't bring home its dead soldiers in flag-draped coffins. That's what turned Americans against the war on Vietnam.

Chicken and egg, and always has been.

If there was a Two State Solution, perhaps they wouldn't become terrorist.

Sure, hate each other, have a wall, whatever, but occupation will just see this forever war continue for generations. Blood will continue to spill, on both sides.

I must admit, I had a chuckle at your post.

IRA - declared a ceasefire (Good Friday Agreement) and went the political route. Not defeated.

Khmer Rouge - Hun Sen was the leader in Cambodia for decades. He's ex Khmer Rouge. Fail.

Nazis - they are still out there, as white supremacist. Well documented.

Che Guevara - a man who went on to become a famous international symbol of resistance and a legend. (One persons terrorist is another persons freedom fighter)

Basque Separatist - announced a ceasefire and disbanded. They were not defeated.

Red Army Faction - chose to dissolve. They were not defeated.

Under the current circumstances, I can not see Hamas going the same way as the above, unless there is a two state solution.

Talking of dead ideology, here's a name you may recognize, Nelson Mandela, and yes, he is dead, but he left prison after serving 28 years of hard time to become the president of South Africa.

In more recent times, America's embarrassing retreat out of Afghanistan. I see on the news today was the 5 year anniversary of it. The Taliban is still there, the American military is not. Gaza will go the same way.

You can not win a land war in Asia, nor can you kill an ideology. Invading / Occupying countries will bleed out militarily, economically, and politically, every time. History shows this.

Wonder whether some Palestinians kids will be thinking to themselves that wars aren't a good thing and that it would be better to stop attacking Israel and causing endless wars ?

That takes negotiation and diplomacy, from both sides. What's Israel willing to concede, zero. Thus, war continues.

After seeing their family and friends killed or maimed, not to mention their own hunger and suffering, I doubt it.

Israel was never going to win hearts and minds in Gaza, everyone knew that, but the collective punishment, weaponizing food and water, and the war crimes committed that amounts to a genocide, has shocked the world, as it did in WW2 with the Nazi death camps.

Like I said, Netanyahu has set back Jewry around the world decades. In effect, the victims have become the perpetrators. Who would ever have thought?
