NACC Official Caught in a Fatal Nonthaburi Drunk Driving Crash

A deputy spokesperson from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), identified as Jarong, was involved in a fatal drunk driving crash in Nonthaburi, resulting in the death of a 43-year-old delivery rider, Sornnarin. The incident occurred late on May 27 on the Bangrak Noi Overpass, Ratchapruek Road. Emergency responders found Sornnarin’s body and his severely damaged electric motorcycle 300 meters apart on the scene.

According to Bang Sri Mueang Police, Sornnarin suffered severe head injuries and a severed left leg. Nearby, authorities discovered a Mitsubishi Triton with a punctured tire, driven by Jarong. Although initially reported as a deputy spokesperson for the NACC, the organization clarified that Jarong does not hold this position.

Witnesses, including a 36-year-old named Max, stated that they saw Jarong's vehicle cross lanes, hitting Sornnarin and dragging his motorcycle several meters. Max alleged that Jarong tried to flee but was stopped by the punctured tire. Another witness reportedly stopped Jarong from escaping, and Max claimed that Jarong used his alleged status as a senior official to attempt to evade responsibility, even suggesting someone else take the blame.

Police performed an alcohol test on Jarong, revealing an intoxication level of 189 milligrammes per cent, well above the legal limit of 50 milligrammes per cent. Despite the gravity of the incident, authorities have yet to disclose the specific charges Jarong will face. Under the Land Traffic Act, penalties for causing death while driving intoxicated range from three to 10 years imprisonment and fines between 60,000 and 200,000 baht.

We do now! The guy was at more than 3x the legal limit. He wasn't drunk, he was wasted.

They need to take this DUI thing more seriously , 3 - 10 years prison does not

seem enough to deter anyone from drinking and driving , there is no need for

it with all these Grab taxis available , drink to excess if you what but have

someone else take you home, this guy seems a nasty piece of work ,trying

to flee the scene , and looking for someone else to take the blame.killed a

43 year old man who most likely had a family to support,

PThis is more than just a fatal drunk‑driving crash, we are told that a senior NACC official allegedly suggested that someone else take the blame!

Even more damning, witnesses are saying he crossed lanes, dragged the bike, tried to flee the scene, and then tried to pull rank.

Thais are already suspicious of the NACC's reputation for protecting insiders. This incident can only add further to people's perception of the NACC. And their scrambling to clarify his job title won’t help. It reads more like damage control than accountability.

Another young life lost. Caused by an drunken anti corruption official. A poor example of a human being showing scant regard for his young victim.

So is he a deputy spokesman or not?

There seems to be some debate about it. Perhaps NAAC should have clarified what position he actually does hold, rather than what position he doesn’t hold.

“A deputy spokesperson from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), identified as Jarong,”

“Although initially reported as a deputy spokesperson for the NACC, the organization clarified that Jarong does not hold this position”

They really do need to overhaul their fines and time in jail according to the offense. 3-10 years for drunk driving murder is nothing and much less than many other less criminal offenses. The justice system is a joke.

On TV3 this morning, there was a lot of phone video of the guy and his damaged pick up. Many people stopped and intervened by filming him and stopping him from trying to flee the scene. Eventually a cop turned up.

Coincidentally, this is the second major legal scadal involving the Counter Corruption office. Earlier this week several of their officials were sentenced for ignoring Prawit's extensive and undeclared watch collection.

Indeed- and I wonder if he will resort to using brown envelopes to ease his way out of this one?

Yes agree. But within a week he'll be ack at the," anti corruption Dept., with most likely a hangover. Especially after reading and listening to the thousands of up coming corruption cases. I would be a piss head to if I had his job.

Lets see how this plays out compared to the Brit who rode into and severely injured the Thai Doctor.

We have two parallels here....

  • Brit riding unlicensed - later testing positive for cocaine - severely injuring a pedestrian.

  • Thai driving while 3x the legal DUI limit killing a motorcyclist.

Both equally reprehensible - I wonder whether the sentences will be similar or if the book is going to be thrown at the Brit while the Thai escapes leniency and we witness yet further unequal justice.

The Thai HiSo story will just disappear. Like they always do. Even when criminal sentences are passed against well-conneted Thais, you never really know whether they are in prison or not - unless you're Thaksin and the Establishment as a whole has it in for you.
