In the West, many young Farang grow up thinking that Thailand is a place where they can come to learn how to fight.

One can even obtain a visa in order to learn how to punch other people, and kick them.

This is why Thailand attracts so many Fighting Farang.

The reason he attacked a Thai man is because he was looking for fighting practice, or a sparring partner.

Soi 6 is one block long, for heaven's sake. Not that hard to patrol. Nobody is saying they should be everywhere but they should be in targeted areas with large numbers of tourists where a police presence is needed.

Police officers can be everywhere, then, can they? They don't have to be called to the scene of incidents like in every other country?

Other than when there is a raid I have never seen a police officer on Soi 6.

I am sure they send somebody, certainly not a uniformed officer, on "collection day".

I think that eventually there will be a police point set up, probably at Beach Road and Soi 6. It will be paid for by the bars and staff will be told to let the police know. The problem, though, with this is that by the time you tell the cop and he gets there, the farang or trouble maker will be long gone.

Already answered by my previous post: 'they should be in targeted areas with large numbers of tourists where a police presence is needed.' I would question that there are 'many other areas with a large number of tourists' partying and drinking at 1:30 in the morning. It's not rocket science. Since, as I said before, the police can't be everywhere, you target the areas and trouble spots where incidents are occurring the most.

Even casual readers of AN would likely be able to tell you that Walking Street, parts of Beach Road, Soi 6, parts of Soi Buakhao, and some other areas with businesses open at 1:30 in the morning and large numbers of drinking and partying visitors would be places to start.

I agree- having police everywhere is not possible - but in areas where it is known a lot of mainly younger foreigners get drunk would make sense

Perhaps there are more than 10 policemen in Pattaya? And there only have to be 1 in an area as small as soi 6.

Great idea, as an example with all the side soi's off the entertainment areas which ones would you have them patrolling?

What utter dribble. I now live back in the uk and it definatly isn't the same place as it was in the 1970's where a good fight at the end of a night was very common. Now your more likely to see young men drinking their soy milk with C cup man boob's reading poetry than fighting.
