South Korea to Deepen Cultural Ties with Thailand in 2026

South Korea is set to enhance cultural ties with Thailand through a series of traditional Korean events, according to Sunju Lee, Director of the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand (KCC). During the "Happy Seollal 2026" event, marking the Korean Lunar New Year, Lee emphasized the goal of sharing Korean customs with the Thai public to strengthen cultural exchanges. This initiative aims to broaden understanding and appreciation of Korea's traditional heritage beyond the already popular K-pop and dramas.

Korean and Thai relations have historically been strong, with cultural exchanges forming a vital part of their bond. Despite some South Koreans shifting travel preferences to Vietnam due to rising costs, Thailand remains a valued destination for Korean tourists. The KCC remains committed to reinforcing this cultural connection by focusing on various traditional Korean activities and showcasing historical artifacts.

The planned events include a Hanbok fashion exhibition in May, traditional Korean dance performances in June, a symphony in August, and a live concert from Korea in October. Additionally, in collaboration with the National Museums of Thailand and Korea, a special exhibition featuring about 100 Thai artifacts will be showcased at the Korean National Museum in Seoul, further highlighting the deep cultural ties between the nations.

Looking to the future, these events are expected to pave the way for deeper cultural understanding and continued collaboration. By promoting traditional Korean culture, the KCC hopes to enrich the experience of Thai audiences and solidify the longstanding friendship between Korea and Thailand, reported Bangkok Post.
