A bit stupid girl. Why get a loan with so much interest too pay? And why give nude pics for so less money. If you borrow you have to pay. Why borrow from someone you hardly know? It is her own naivity but if she was thinking before doing this would not have happened.

That is how these people get their money back. They hang these photos over their head and will release them to their family and friends and online. These loan sharks are worse than the drug dealers and need to be rounded up and strung up by their tiny little balls.

So many mistakes and miscalculations. Sounds like she just did not think this one through. Was she really that desperate for 1,600 baht? Yikes.

Where is society headed? Back toward Cro Magnon II is my opinion. We stopped evolving as a civilization at least three decades ago. Social media, and now AI. The ruin of mankind.

The total interest now claimed exceeds 21,000 baht. Miss Jai told police she had met the lender once briefly at a concert but did not know him personally. She said people now recognise her from the posts, adding: “I feel ashamed. When I go out, people say I look familiar.”

Her guardian, Mr Keng (aged 61) from Bang Pla Ma district, accompanied her to Bang Pla Ma police station on 27 April 2026. Investigating officer Police Lieutenant Colonel Jaturon JaruSirirak accepted the complaint. Police plan to charge Mr Nut with defamation by publication and are considering additional charges under the Computer Crimes Act and child pornography laws.

Thaitabloid reported that police Lieutenant Colonel Nattaphong In Sawang, deputy chief of investigation, said the teenager had acted out of naivety. He warned the public not to accept loan terms requiring nude images or sensitive personal data. Officers are now tracking the suspect for questioning.

Don’t be tough on her, she’s 16. Can’t expect her to make informed adult decisions at that age. Pity she had to resort to a loan shark rather than seeking funds from her guardian.

In rural Thailand people don't have money, especially at 16yo.

Considering her gaurdian is 61 that sould suggest her parents aren't around, this is all to common in rural thailand, zero guidance.

My wife’s 10-year old son can’t write his name, can’t add 10 plus 10. Etc. Etc. Etc. Nothing between his ears.

It certainly seems like a deficiency within Thai society that allows it to be so permissible to just leave a child with an elder and go off and work for a year or two, completely dropping the ball on parenting duties.

It is as if the idea of getting pregnant and caring for a child was never really something that was considered, despite the financial inability to do so.

They go for much longer than a year or two, only time they return is Songkran and maybe one of the long weekends throughout the year.

I've been to stores where a successful retailer pulls out a calculator to add 10 + 20 baht.

Or four items that equal 190 and I say loy gaao sip, and they look at me like I'm some sort of wizard or magician. They then break out the calculator and when it says 190 they give me this look like how on earth would you know something like that?

61 - 16 = 45. Wait! You beleive 45 year old people can't / don't make babies???

If she had her wits about her, she should have claimed that the nudes were deepfakes. Quite a bit of AI out there that enables turning just about any photo into a nude.

I hope she's learned a lesson... I wish that was the dumbest thing I did at her age.

I once asked the Thai man who spoke good English why Thais seem to lack common sense and reason and he laughed and he said, well as to common sense you might be right, but about reason we have it, it's just we have Thai reasoning, we don't have Western reason. And they are two very different things. Ha!

I love the Thai people on so many different levels, but I try to not make that much effort to really understand them. It bends the brain too much.

I always tell people who are coming here for the first time to bear in mind the Thailand is not a foreign country, Thailand is a distant planet. If you treat it as such, you'll be less astonished by things that take place here.

A while back I went to a local mini mart. Bought six bottle of soda water. The old guy told me I had to pay 5 baht deposit, per bottle. I said ok. Went back with my bottles later, and wanted to buy some more. He quoted me a price that did not take into account my 30 baht deposit. I said I get the deposit back, and then pay you for the water, right? He said no, the deposit is one way! You don't get it back. I would have been upset, if I was not laughing so hard. I said no, farang is one way, that way, and never come back. I took my bottles and left. It was well worth it. Have been telling that story to my friends for years. We all love it!

I have had hundreds of these kinds of encounters here in LOS. Always amazed by them. There is a complete disregard for the future, for future patronage, for the idea of loyalty, and rewarding you for such. It has happened with so many merchants I had been dealing with for years. Over tiny amounts of money. Of course, they lose me for life. But, they do not seem to care one iota.

I am a business owner. I will do nearly anything to retain a loyal customer. Whatever it takes. A full refund, an exchange, just tell me what you want. Here? None of that. Tomorrow? Why think about tomorrow, when I can make an extra 30 baht today?

The tale of the One Way store. Great stuff. You could not make this stuff up, if you tried!

My bank required the same thing to renew my mortgage!

Wow! My 10 year old grand daughter is working with algebra math now. My 7 year old grandson is adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers in his head.
