Design adjustment will cause 10-month delay in the dual-track train project in Korat

Design adjustment will cause 10-month delay in the dual-track train project in Korat

Adjustment of the design of the 4.8-km section of the dual-track train project between Klong Khananchit and Jira road junction covering a distance of 69 km in Nakhon Ratchasima will cause a 10-month delay in the project implementation.

Post Today newspaper quoted an informed source in the State Railway of Thailand that the SRT would try to speed up the employment of a consultancy firm to do the re-designing within two months’ time before proceeding with conducting Environmental Impact Assessment study.

The mobile cabinet at its meeting in Nakhon Ratchasima in early August decided to change the design of this section of the dual-track train project to be elevated instead of being fenced which will, according to the town’s residents, divide the town into two parts.

Great start.....a 10 month delay before a sod is turned....expect a lot more!

If it seriously improves the ultimate outcome - for users & local residents - then that's fine. If not, then not.

They realized a plan might be a good idea?

That's the SRT track-doubling project, construction of this particular section (Jira Junction to Khon Kaen) was supposedly already under-way, it's certainly very late for this spanner to be thrown into the works !

What's that supposed to mean? Thai mathematics again?

I also find the artist rendition of the train line very flattering, if not a little too enthusiastic: There are almost no cars on the road, no black smoke-belching trucks, no trash heaps littering the countryside, and all the houses in the village look neat and well maintained.

And why are the two trains apparently speeding in the same direction? Is the purpose of a dual track not that two trains traveling in opposite directions can pass one another instead of racing each other? No wonder that project needs an extensive re-design.

Apparently there is a design flaw, the trains can only go in one direction and no u turns exist.

After the design is finished, they need to design the power supply.
Currently on the drawing, they're missing something. No third rail or power lines.

Ahh, I found it. Thailand 4.0 means; nuclear powered trains !!! They can easily buy copy the knowledge from uncle Kim.

Even before the project starts it has a cost overrun - additional loan interest that has to be paid to China. China was wise not to partner with Thailand on the project.

These are the new train units with control cabins at either end. Railway turntables had disappeared from use by the middle of the 20th century.

Older style trains in Thailand relocate the engine for the return journey, and change the carriage numbers. They don't actually perform a U-turn.

Strangely enough, they might start work on the other 64 km while the design is happening.

Must be some design change to cause a 10 month delay.

And nobody wants to be born on the wrong side of the tracks

Mate, you should know that here in Thailand whenever you get two vehicles beside each other be it buses, trucks, vans, bikes  or cars they will race each other to prove how "manly" they are, why should trains be any different especially "fast" ones, at least being on separate lines they cant smash into each other but I am sure they would try

See my post of a couple months back

So what's the diff if they are keeping the same alignment, it's only a matter if it's in the air or not

Not that hard since most of BKK has them in the air

Working without a design alignment , nice one

Some times different designs for Track, Civils , signaling, and OCS don't match. All survey for the project  requires the same control points, so this looks like they were using different control points. So it's re-design time
