webfact
Thai Law: Secrets To Surviving The New Inheritance Tax By Wirot Poonsuwan, Attorney at Law BANGKOK: -- There are enormous tax breaks provided by the government. The problem is most people are completely unaware of them. Take the new inheritance tax which has been in force since February 2016. I have personally enquired at land offices and such agencies where one would ostensibly go for such information and found none familiar with it. Maybe it’s too new. Perhaps it’s too complicated. Citizens generally have no idea about the crux of the law and how much it would weigh on themselves and their families Full story: http://www.khaosodenglish.com/opinion/2017/09/03/thai-law-secrets-surviving-new-inheritance-tax/ -- © Copyright Khaosod English 2017-09-
LazySlipper
Back in the West we are told that 'No one is exempt from knowing the law'. Here, in Thailand, even the authorities don't know it. Imagine most immi offixers don't speak English and the only way to get a straight answer is to ask Ubonjoe. Now imagine an inheritance law... OP's comment "I have personally enquired at land offices and such agencies where one would ostensibly go for such information and found none familiar with it." seems about right. Minnehaha
Why would the land office know about or be expected to advise and inform a person about inheritance law? While there... maybe ask them about the advantages of renting vs owning condo?
leeneeds
Trigger is 100million, very much doubt many will leave that amount. I certainly will not.
seminomadic
If this is the work of PM Prayut, then well done. Inheritance taxes means that all the spoiled ***** in this country who never worked a day in their life might actually have to work one day rather than live off of daddy's mountain of money. Assuming they can't find a loophole. Which is an enormous and likely very fallible assumption. At least he's trying to reduce the injustices. Keep trying.
