Prime Minister Hun Sen yesterday said the government plans to recruit 1,500 Islamic teachers to fill a void leaving Muslim students behind and reduce the burden put on communities to support teachers themselves. Mr Hun Sen made the announcement during an inauguration ceremony for a mosque in Kampong Cham province.

 

“Going to the public school in the past was no problem, but now there are schools in the Muslim community that teach general knowledge and religious education,” he said. “Some Cambodian-Islamic teachers didn’t get support or a salary from the state, so the community was responsible for supporting their salaries before.”

 

Mr Hun Sen said the state is now responsible for the expenses of those teachers, saying that more teachers might be needed as more Muslim schools are built, including nine schools recently added in Kampong Cham. “So, at that time, the number of Islamic religious teachers will also increase, and the government will consider including more teachers to respond to the increase of students in the Muslim community,” he said.

I agree with both of you... School is for teaching reading, writing, and arithmetic not religious indoctrination.

Huge mistake.

 

The kids will never integrate into general society, but will remain seperated through religious indoctrination.

 

Religion has to be taken out of the schools and political systems. 

 

 

Religion should have no place in schools.
