A samui Expat was injured in a motorcycle accident late last year and is in Hospital in Samui. He needs blood for further operations.

I have just returned from the hospital where i gave blood. The expat community is already trying to make people aware of this. I am just trying to help by posting a topic here on Thai Visa.

If you can give O negative blood please go directly to Ban Don International hospital between Chaweng and Boput or call his wife directly on 087 2675484.

The hospital is about 1km from Tesco lotus.

I am sorry i do not have any further information.

Cheers,

8ball.

What if I want to give blood just to give blood? In the US they have blood drives all the time because they say they are always short of blood. I would imagine on an island it would be doubly important to have plenty of blood on the island as getting it here can take a while. Can I go to any hospital here and just offer up my blood? Do they ever have blood drives? Does anyone know anything regarding this?

It doesn't give much local information tho :o I would suggest contacting the Samui hospital directly and see if they ever have anything going, that is the govt hospital so the one most likely to need help. If not, might I suggest, if you have the time, see if they need any help organizing something, I am sure alot of the local expats in Samui would love to be able to help out by donating blood.

You're right sbk. Should be able to e-mail/phone the main office and they can tell you where there are local branch/hospital is in the area. I'm sure the Samui hospital would have info also.

"At present, there are 47 blood service units of National Blood Service Branches, Provincial Red Cross Chapters, Blood Service Branches in hospitals in the provinces, and National Blood Service Branches in Bangkok."

I think Nathon hospital is the main blood bank and supplies the other hospitals on the island. I donated there once. They also have the only morgue (in the basement). I've been there looking for someone and it's pretty scary. Most of the dead are traffic fatalities who did not carry ID, so the chalkboard list just says Farang, Thai...so you have to look at all the farang or Thai bodies to confirm if your friend is among them. Not a pleasant task.

Does anyone have the phone number to the Nathon hospital so I can call and find out the times, days, what info to bring, etc? I'll share that info when I get it.

I went to Nathon hospital after the Tsunami, said they didn't require my blood. I have AB+.Either they didn't require that specific type,or had storage problems.
