Government declines to confirm speculation of general election in August 2018

BANGKOK, 6th September 2017 (NNT) - The government cannot confirm speculation that the general election may take place in a year’s time.

Deputy Prime Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon said on Tuesday that it remains unclear if the timing of the next election could be as early as August 2018 as suggested by the Election Commission because the government is still awaiting the enactment of all organic laws related to the national poll.

Nevertheless, Gen. Prawit confirmed that there will eventually be a general election as planned in the national roadmap.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Constitutional Drafting Commission, Meechai Ruchuphan also said that everyone should wait for the passing of all four organic laws, which are related to the election, before details of the next poll are clarified while insisting that the charter drafters will complete the drafting process by the deadline.

As early as? Sorry, when did they first say there'd be an election? You know, back in 2014!

Time to break out the "road-map"? Again.

Originally, October, 2014. But that was just palaver aimed at keeping the masses and international types soothed.

Not so long afterwards the preferences of the amart/PTB was leaked as 2020, or "when the reds had been dealt with".

2020 seems like a possibility, assuming there are no other "issues" which arise.

Pravit and Meechai are dinosaurs. They have passed their sell by dates and need to stop screwing with the country.  Being aged does not make you wise and all knowing.  They need to bring in people who understand modern realities but that would never happen in the country they are deliberately holding back for their own misguided reasons.  It is 2017 not 1932.

Why not have an election ? I mean the 20 year rule/plan has been set out and most know the result of a Generals Election  Hun Sen {Cambodia} has a similar election always win win chicken grin !

Prem still going strong, and working the strings, at 97.

Meechai's got another two charter's in him.

Prawit does appear to be suffering from some medical concerns which might impact his longevity.

Prem should have been put out to pasture decades ago. Anyway, his power is severely limited now that his energy source is  running on empty.

Meechai is so out of touch with reality, they should put him in a room, provide him with pen and paper and tell him they want 20 constitutions to share with the world, lock the door and come back in 10 years to tell him there has been a change of plans. And then do it all again. It would keep him entertained and he would be out of harms way.

It will be 'Hobsons Choice'

Party A:  But what if we lose?

You could be right, there. The roads round our way are so well signed, you don't need a roadmap . . . long live the junta! :partytime2:

. . . by which time we can take a well earned rest and watch Kim Jong-un doing the Friday TV spectacular. Yes, take all the time you need, you dozy prats.

Election? Election? We don't need no stinkin' election!

I find democracy a little bit overrated.

We are in a utopian transition period "where the powers that be" "are deciding who" the next powers that be will be ".

In order to gu

guarantee whom the next powers that be - "will be" ,the current powers that be need to do a lot of jai Dee activities .

The next powers that will be ., might not be so jai Dee .

Then you'll "be " buggered with your no need for elections .

Elections make people unhappy and the new PM may not be a poet, so... how would he be able to make the people happy again, poetically speaking?

Why is this in the "news" section?

Remember when Prayuth said that elections can not NOT be next year because of the road map :coffee1:

Calm down peoples, the election will taking part when the government decide it and not before...

He should have said no election we are making to much money now TIT

Mmmm News flash  The General has just corrected himself  He said 2018 but he meant to say 2028 So sorry for the inconvience Big Thai smile

Not sure but possibly citizens of North Korea, Syria, Myanmar, China, Ethiopia, and others might have a different attitude about elections.

Then you probably have little understanding of history nor how the freedom you currently enjoy is possible.
