Prawit vows action against Yingluck helpers

Yingluck Shinawatra

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan on Wednesday vowed to take legal action against anybody who helped fugitive ex-premier Yingluck Shinawatra flee the country.

“When the time comes, everything will unfold. The person who took Yingluck from the country needs to take responsibility,” he said.

However, he said he neither knew Yingluck’s whereabouts nor who helped her escape.

Prasong Lertratanawisute, director of Isra News Agency, said that Yingluck’s ability to escape from the Kingdom a few days before the final verdict reflected a failing in Thailand’s process of justice.

“No matter what deal might or might not have been done to help her escape, the fact that Yingluck could flee from legal action means that the justice process is hindered by some circumstance, disabling it from dealing effectively with people involved in such controversial cases,” Prasong said.

Yingluck has not been seen since failing to appear at a verdict reading in the case related to her government’s rice-pledging scheme on August 25. The court has set a second date of September 27 to read the verdict, in which the ex-premier faces a possible 10-year jail term if convicted of criminal negligence related to the rice scheme.

Meanwhile, Deputy Government Spokesperson Lt General Werachon Sukondhapatipak said he did not know whether Yingluck’s name would be raised during Thursday’s joint cabinet meeting between Thailand and Cambodia, given that the neighbouring country is seen as her possible escape route.

“Senior officers should be the best to address this matter,” he said.

An initial report claimed that Yingluck fled Thailand to Cambodia before flying to Singapore and Dubai, where her brother Thaksin lives in self-exile has a home.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Prawit are due to attend the meeting in Cambodia on Thursday.

In a related development, junta spokesman Colonel Winthai Suvaree denied the military had received any information from police about Yingluck.

Deputy police chief Pol General Srivara Rangsibrahmanakul yesterday said police had sent investigation information to the military.

OOOH! Big words. It's the people who love telling everyone they're in charge who are ultimately responsible. It happened on their watch. The gracious thing would be to admit incompetence and step down. But gracious isn't in the hiso dictionary.

I think this is a case of "strategic incompetence."

How can he make such threats when the junta claim to know nothing, not even whether or not she has left the country?

Do they - and this isn't a rhetorical question - have any idea just how stupid / duplicitous they are looking right now?

No they will not. The elite have gambled and won. Now the average (wo)man on the street can look forward to life as it always was, with them prostrating and being at the bottom of the pile for a good while to come.

It won't last forever, but I think their Lords and Masters are reasonably comfortable right now.

These sort of circumstances change - and when they do change the y can do so suddenly and rapidly.
Especially when the foundations of the structure you rely on are weak...

Two weeks.

Not a whisper.

Not a sighting.

Just a lot of bluster.

Does anyone really believe that, given the fact that the trial was about to reach its climax, and the fact that she was the focus of opposition to the regime, and looking at the efforts they made to stop her supporters traveling to Bangkok; that they really don't know what happened to her?

We shall just have to see. They have given people no end of reasons to turn against them but they don't.

However there is one thing we will agree on, and that is the sooner you are on here telling me 'See? I told you so', the better...

I doubt your question ever crosses their mind. So used to years and years of making it up as they go along and people accepting any old comment no matter how far removed from reality, factual basis or logic it is.

"She's gone - how she went, where she went, why she went, what she went for, - forget it. None of your business so stop asking questions and best not show an interest"

How they must hate social media and any journalist who as an ounce of inquisitiveness.

The red shirts will never be in power again Who controls the army will be I think since 1952 Thailand has had more than 50 takeovers by the army. Lets face Thailand is Like Burma The army will always be in control because here i guess they just dont murder people in the streets like the Burmese Army does They control in a nice way

Not sure what that comment means but just for clarification, I do not like either side anyway :clap2:

What i do find funny in this situation though is that since she vanished.

- Thaksin hasn't said a word, safe to think he knows where she is or he would be all over the news accusing current government.

So he is not even talking about her...

- The current government on the other hand is giving her sweet name full marketing coverage 24/7

But it is all ok, the PM is over it :cheesy::cheesy:
