Hi. I am just starting to understand that I want to get a multi entry o visa. It has so far been suggested that KL (Malaysia), Singapore and the smaller consulates in Australia (not the Embassy in Canberra) would be good places to go for the visa.

I would be interested to hear from people that have been to these and others about how they went, if there were any unexpected problems or costs etc.

I would prefer to go somewhere closer, so it will be interesting to hear what you have to say.

OK since no one has replied, I will put to you another thought / question.

Can I sit in Thailand and post my application for non imm o visa to Australia When / if passport comes back with the visa, I could cross a closer border and come back in using the visa??? Sounds feasible. Is it? Is it legal? Thoughts?

You expect to get a reply within 30 minutes of your post ?

Anyway a multi non-im O is generaly only available in your home country.

You need to be in the country to apply so sending your passport while in Thailand is not a solution

Some consulates are 'easier' then others. Tell us your nationality and you will get more accurate replies.

You'd go straight to jail. There wouldn't be any arrival / departure stamps to match up. Brisbane or Perth are good options.

What if you were sending off a second passport (dual nationality) to a home country consulate, and had a relative do it from inside your home country do it so the consulate didn't realise you weren't in the country at the time? When new visa arrives, hide it, leave Thailand, and use it to reenter...

Perhaps lack of arrival stamps in the passport with the new visa would blow that when you reenter? Or is there a way around that???

Hi. I didn't expect an answer in 30 minutes - although have had some great very quick answers at times here.

I am Australian.

Only available in home country? Some people seemed to have mentioned can also in KL or Singapore. Is that correct? I suppose that is the sort of thing I am trying to confirm.

OK, so I take it the sending the passport thing is illegal - no probs - I will give that a miss. Just noticed when looking at the embassy website that you could post the application - so started to think, why fly to Australia to post an application.

Brisbane and Perth easier? Thanks for that. Is there a consulate in Melbourne? Actually are there ones in Brisbane and Perth? I can find on the internet only Canberra and Sydney - which seems like an adequate number of consulates for 1 country.

Paul,

The only way that you can legally post the passport to Australia for your Visa is if you have dual passports, and you used another passport to enter Thailand.

In that case you can post your second passport off, and still keep posession of the passport used to enter the country.

If you are sucessful in getting a visa, jump on a plane to Singapore etc. and reenter Thailand on the passport with the new Visa in it.

This is Legal.

I am going to Brisbane tomorrow to apply for Non Imm O Multi Entry Visa.

Spoke to the Consulate there on Wednesday last week, all seemed to be ok on the phone.

I will post an update once i have been.

FYI Thai airlines had some specials last week BKK - BNE - BKK for just over 12000 THB.

Cheers

G'day Mate, thanks for that.

That is a great price. I will see if it is still available.

Oh, I only have the one passport.

I am very interested to hear your report on how you went in Brisbane, especially stuff like you you need to take and what requirements there are for money, savings, income.

I think for me - I will go to Laos get a 90 day single entry visa for now, as I have some volunteers arriving in Thailand soon that I am supposed to be looking after, and then later when I have time, I will go to Australia and try for the 1 year version. Is there any reason why doing that - getting a 90 day one first would hurt my chances in Australia of getting the multi entry?

To answer my own question - yes, there is a consulate in Melbourne, - which I found by looking up the Melbourne White Pages.

Melbourne ain't too easy :o

Paul listen to the good Dr he is right up there with it. Also don't go near Sydney, they are hopeless at anything other than a tourist visa. I post my passport to Brisbane from within Australia every year, that is not illegal. I supply a copy of my marriage certificate, a return addressed registered envelope and pay the $225 fee and I get a Non O Multi without a problem. Here is the link to the BRISBANE CONSULATE.

If you get a Non O single entry in Laos it shouldn't make any difference at all when you apply for your multi back in OZ. Good Luck.

OK, that is an excellent couple of answers and very informative. I am starting now to feel much more relaxed and with an understanding of what I need to do. Thanks so much for all the help.

Paul,

I have been to Brisbane Consulate today.

Non Imm O Multi Entry granted in 20 minutes.

I have detailed this in a seperate threat in this section, with all of the information about the application.
