BANGKOK: -- Thailand’s house and office phone numbers will have 10 digits instead of nine in a major change which will be completed in three years.

Minister of Digital Economy and Society Pichet Durongkaveroj said that the National Digital Economy and Society Committee’s meeting headed by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Sept6 approved in principle the change of fixed line phone numbers to be 10 digits instead of nine digits as it is now.

The phone numbers which begin with 02, 03, 05 and 07 and followed by seven digits will have number 1 added after number 0 as the 10th digit. Also, the prefix two digits of the fixed line phone numbers will be used as the prefix two digits of mobile phones.

Does anyone use fixed line telephone nowadays.

I do, home phone/fax line, and others must do too, or 'they' wouldn't feel the need to expand the numbers available, with all the disruption & inconvenience & expense this will inevitably cause  ...

...  or could this be about 'face', in some mysterious way, I wonder ?
