SRT accused of ignoring Buri Ram woman injured in train mishap

The family of a 21-year-old woman seriously injured in a fall from a moving train last December is seeking compensation from the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).

The December 26 mishap left Nisachon Noppakhun of Phlubphlachai district in Buri Ram unable to work, her family said on Thursday.

 

Her income from odd jobs had been crucial in meeting the family’s needs, including those of her four-year-old child, they said. 

 

The family has filed two petitions and got no response, they said, and if this latest plea is ignored, they plan to sue the state agency.

 

The third petition, addressed to the governor of the State Railway, was given to Banjong Janthorn, superintendent of Buri Ram Train Station.

 

The relatives were supported by Wittaya Saidoung, kamnan of Tambon Pa Chan, and Sua Sudsiangsang, headman of the village where they live, Ban Prathad Boo.

 

Nisachon and her husband Theerasak and child had boarded the Ubon Ratchathani-Bangkok train in Buri Ram’s Krasang district and were travelling to Ayutthaya.

 

They only got a short distance when the train suddenly jolted, just as Nisachon was heading to the toilet at the rear of her coach. 

 

The coupling between coaches shook violently and she lost her balance, falling from the train. 

 

She was rushed to Buri Ram Central Hospital with a serious head injury, broken shoulder, fractured ribs and widespread bruising and spent two months recovering at hospital and at home. 

 

The family said Nisachon was left unable to work and her husband’s wages as a construction worker were insufficient for their needs.

 

Spurning suggestions that Nisachon had been attempting suicide, they urged the SRT to pay compensation for the loss of vocational opportunity and future income. 

 

Stationmaster Banjong said he had forwarded the earler petitions to the SRT governor as requested and heard the agency had put an insurance company on the case. 

 

The family told him an insurance agent had called them for information but there had been no further action. Banjong said he would forward the third petition accordingly.

They're from Isaan, Gov. agencies couldn't care less unless they happen to be people of influence which they obviously aren't 

If the toilet was at the rear of the coach in which she was traveling, how come she ended up between coaches or fell out the  door?

 

SRT are waiting for the high speed trains,,,, then everybody will just get killed
