Russian Nuclear Tech For Thailand

By The Nation

Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corporation (ROSATOM) and Kinetics Corporation Ltd (Thailand) will supply a cyclotron complex with radiochemical laboratories to the Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology (TINT).

Following the results of the procedure conducted by TINT, Kinetics Corporation – with its offer based on ROSATOM’s technologies – was awarded a turn-key contract.

The facility will be located at Ongkharak Nuclear Research Centre in Nakhon Nayok province.

The project is expected to be implemented within three and a half years.

If i lived in Nakon Nayok i would move, nothing good is going to come out of this,

Now they are making coal look like a more environmentally friendly alternative.  Start off extreme and then negotiate down to where you want to be.

Will it be transferred in on the back of one of their high-speed trains?

This is too terrifying to even be funny!

Russian technology ? Chernobyl  comes to mind

There was nothing wrong with the technology it was the engineer in charge of a particular shift who was to blame, human error and arrogance happens.

I'd heard our leader had invited Vlad for a visit & wondered why? Now I know, it's to consummate the deal. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

What is a cyclotron complex ? medical facility ?

Wasn't sure if you were just being funny or not. Cyclotrons are particle accelerators (such as protons). They are used in various fields of research. Some are used to treat cancer where a beam of protons is focused on the cancer. Other uses are astrophysics etc.

It's generally used for medical purposes, yes.

It works complimentary to a reactor generally in manufacture of specialist medical radioisotopes.

Cut from ANSTO website:

  • Atoms with extra protons in the nucleus are called neutron-deficient and are produced in a particle accelerator such as a cyclotron.
  • Atoms with extra neutrons in the nucleus are called neutron-rich and are produced in a nuclear reactor.

Ticking time bomb  if they get their hands on anything like this. Not unless someone teaches the meaning of due diligence  and professional  maintenance

US technology ? (westingate/toshiba) , Fukushima comes to mind.

What could possibly go wrong ?

Well, might help melt the plastic in the Klong I suppose, though I suspect there will be a awful long drainage system to somehow dump it on Pattaya beach.

It was due to the tsunami, not bc it's technology.

It was their engineering that wasn't good enough to withstand a tsunami ... in a country prone to earthquakes & tsunami's.

I've even heard it's happened a few times here, believe it or not!

Not sure what you mean. This is not connected to fission or nuclear weapons. The main danger is lack of adequate shielding and proper maintenance where the workers or the patients in the direct local environment might be exposed to extra levels of radiation. During proton or positron production (a positron is the anti partner of the electron) some gamma radiation may escape (other forms of radiation have a short effective distance). Other countries in Asia have many units so there is no shortage of expertise and training programmes.

A classic case of " Falang think too much"?

Hmmm...wasn't there an article recently (yesterday!) indicating that numerous airlines were grounded due to safety issues? Nothing to worry about - different technology.

No I wasn't being funny, so this isn't a major disaster waiting to happen.

plus they have to learn not absolutely everyone in the team can go for " gin khao "at 12 o'clock:blink:

"Fear not", as Piglet is reported to have said.

The word is they're talking to a plant hire contractor, about getting a couple of those really big tyres they have on those giant earth moving trucks.

Any problems, put 'em round it, and Somchai's your uncle...
