Watanya Wongopasi who is affectionately known as “Madam Dear” has tendered her resignation as manager of Thailand’s under-23 national football squad in compliance with the new policy of the Thai Football Association to do away with the managers for national soccer teams.

“As a Thai citizen, I don’t want to be an obstacle. As an elder sister of the U-23 soccer players, I will do anything I can to make the Thai team prospers and for every player to become successful. One should not feel attached [to a position],” said Mrs Watanya after meeting with Pol Gen Somyot Poompunmuang, the association president, to report about the Thai soccer team’s performance in the recently-concluded SEA Games in Malaysia and to tender her resignation.

Thailand defeated host Malaysia in the final men’s football match to defend their championship in the 29th SEA Games on Aug 29.
