Video: Khao Yai elephant comes to get a snack!

A video showed a wild elephant in the Khao Yai National Park stopping traffic to help himself to a spot of lunch - a couple of bales of straw.

The straw was being transported to the park on a truck from the Pak Chong market to provide seating for competitors in a running race to be held there.

The elephant tried a few mouthfuls and tossed the rest over its back before the truck carrying the straw and other vehicles managed to get on their way.

Park Chief Khanchit Srinappawan said it was a very unusual sight. He said no one had any idea how the elephant knew that the consignment of straw was on its way to the park.

What beautiful creatures they are...

I was fortunate enough to see an adult elephant roaming along a quiet road just out side Hua Hin a few years ago. Magnificant!

A nice reminder of just who really is King of the Road in the National Park.

edit.  It just occurred to me that when they've unloaded the truck at the running site, word will get around and  there will then be half a dozen pachyderms feeding on the nice straw.

Straw isn't actually very edible.  It's what's left once the grain has been removed, it's really only bedding.

My mother would tell him to stop playing with this food!

It seems he was saying this isn't fit for an animal.

Hay, good eating, straw.....not so much.

God bless them. They are hungry, Thailand!!!!!!
