Article 44 To Shred Departure Cards (For Thais): Gov't

By Chayanit Itthipongmaetee, Staff Reporter

BANGKOK — By the end of the year, Thai citizens can dispense with filling out departure and arrival cards when they travel, a government spokesman said Tuesday.

Maj. Gen. Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Tuesday that the National Council for Peace and Order, as the junta calls itself, has agreed that Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha should wield his supreme power to obviate the need for the cards known as Tor Mor 6 for Thais.

Makes sense. What doesn't really make sense is why they ever had to fill these out in the first place.

Walking into Vietnam today with nothing more than an entry stamp, and no form filling, was a breath of fresh air.

Shows how it can be done.

Thais just love to complicate everything. Makes them feel good and supreme.

Can you imagine what it is like to live there? It is a visa dream. As opposed to Thailand which is a visa nightmare.

Only for Thais. Suck it up butter cups.:shock1:

So we don't need a visa for Vietnam anymore? Or is that only for your nationality?

Oh his supreme power. Scary stuff.

I think that this is down to Yingluck, having a TM6 demonstrated they have no value in locating the person, in or out of the country.

What. Nationality are you?

I wonder whether Permanent Residents will still have to fill up cards.I am sure there is no logical reason we will not be exempted along with Thai nationals.I am almost equally sure that we will not be exempted.

1. Some nationalities are given visa free entry. I don't know which countries. (the problem here is that the check-in chick at the airport of departure may not let you on the plane without a visa)

2. You can get a visa from an agency outside Vietnam or through the Vietnamese Embassy or Consulate of that country.

3. You can get a letter from Vietnam Immigration giving approval for "visa on arrival". This can be done via a Vietnamese travel agent. This letter needs to be shown to check-in chick at airport of departure.

My thoughts exactly. Should you know of any changes to the existing procedure please let me know.

Interesting enough is also, that Korat (I live in Banglamung) refused the Endorsement/Re-Entry Visa last year initially and only upon asking for the written instructions from Bangkok they stamped the white Certificate and the passport.
This year round they insisted in Udon Thani on the original of the house register (I had copies with me) - not accepted; Nongkhai then processed it without problems.

Interesting days ahead for us PR too .......

British passport holders get 15 day exempt entry.

Return in 30 days requires a visa.

The stupid long Q at immigration has nothing much to do with Thai filling TM6 forms...Thais have  arrival counters of their own...which foreigners are not allowed to use even they are empty.:passifier:

If we are married to a Thai National we can use the Thai channel, i do it all the time.

To the Immigration Dept it makes a lot of sense, as does all the other pretty useless paperwork that they insist on using.  They love to justify having huge numbers of people employed doing virtually fat all, which is so tiring that they need extended lunch hours and a lot of young students to help them in the offices.

This country is overburdened with Civil Servants, they call them 'Government Officials', which sounds far more important.   If you took away 50% of them along with 50% of the useless paperwork that justifies their numbers the remainder would actually have to work for a living...maybe even the Senior Officers, and we can't have that you know !

True, and also wheel chair users, we always go through the Thai channel no problem!

To obviate the need for something that most countries don't demand of their citizens? The mind boggles.

Of course it doesn't. The Thais use the cards in reverse, and can fill out the departure section before reaching immigration, the arrival well before reaching LoS.

And all countries have counters specifically for their citizens - or, in the case of the UK, EU and Swiss, too; though that will no doubt change before much longer.

Er, no; 30 days. Always has been, apart from the little hiccup when they plumped for 15 days by land border, something then duly rescinded.

Reading comprehension issues?  British passport holders receive 15 days visa exempt entry to Vietnam.

I got a one year multiple entry visa for Vietnam, one form, a picture and 5950 baht, dropped it off Friday, picked it up on Tuesday........but I am an american, no visa exempt, they charge us the same as we charge them - far enough.
