Jariyaporn ‘Nammon’ Buayai on Friday is led to a police news conference.

 

PHETCHABUN — Looking back, farmer Pairat Pungsook realized something wasn’t quite right with his wedding.

 

First, he broke the bank to front the 180,000 baht asked for by his bride (bargained down from 200,000 baht and about 60 grams of gold). Their nuptials, held inside a rented house in northern metro Bangkok, were eerily quiet – no festivities, food or people – and over quick.

And there was me thinking that paying the dowry would guarantee that she loved you.

 

My whole way of thinking has just been tipped upside down. Is there no more honour between the desperate and the soullessly greedy anymore?

Paying the dowry just guaranteed that we are guaranteed to be daft.
