Retired expats are leaving in droves looking for better places, which do exist.  In 2015 LOS was listed as #18.  They're going downhill from there.  Thailand is well on it's way to authoritarian rule as corruption is a way of life and the ability of a foreigner to trust anything in their "new home" erodes to zero.  A new stab-in-the-back tax will fill the airport for a long time, no short time.

I like the 'authoritarian rule' here better than the 'democracy and freedom' they claim we have in my home country.  Pick your poison?  Actually, even with the VAT and new alcohol tax, 'regressive' taxes are less intrusive here.
Plus, there are no State Patrol, Sheriffs, county-mounties, or local city cops just around the bend looking to pull you over for a 'broken taillight' or some other stupid offense.  Actually, the only cops on the roads are escorting VIPs.  Yeah.  Like it here much better.

Just got back from shopping at Big-C.  The box of 12 large bottles of Cheers that I usually buy has increased from 515 baht to 518 baht.  Not exactly the earth shattering event that it might have been. I suspect that they are planning to step the price slowly over many weeks in order to keep from alarming customers. If the article in the Nation was correct, the price should ultimately rise around 30 baht.

I will be curious to see where things eventually stabilize, but I don't think there is any reason to panic right now. It seems like everyone has been told not to take advantage of the situation.

Real military academies in countries with real militaries teach business, management, economics, and other practical subjects necessary in the real world.

Don't confuse the Thai military with a proper military.

I certainly didn't bruce.

But since this is about Thai military government's taxation policies in Thailand... oh, never mind.

Bought a couple of cans of brew this evening.  Same price as they were yesterday.    So much for the hysteria.

They haven't met to discuss rates and implementation yet. Maybe by the end of the month we will know what the changes are and start seeing them.

In the meantime, Cheers!

What's truly remarkable is, after reading some more stuff, I knew I was wrong within about 15 minutes of posting it but couldn't be buggered, etc., etc..

Yeah right you are going to see figurers you asked about released by this Gov or TAT aren't you, it would do wonders for the image here and all those ghost tourists would it not.

Drinking well as most thais like a drink of white whiskey  i suspect it wont really affect anyone a greart deal. We have enough stock of white whiskey/leo/chang to keep everyone happy to well after xmas at yesterdays prices.we never sold cigarettes anyway.
